What are some things you still choose to spend money on in 2024 and beyond? Have your money habits changed too?

    • @IrinaVanRonkel

I'm glad I'm NOT so desperate to buy fashion items anymore. But I still buy new perfumes, just in smaller bottles, mostly from Mercari. I also continue to buy some stuff from online stores like Real Real and Vestiaire. I started bowling with a coach and yoga, learning Arabic on Duolingo, and spending a lot of time at home with my husband, dog and cat. I really like my very private and quiet life.

Do not feel bad about having hobbies that you enjoy that you do alone it’s important. I am a maker. I prefer being in my own head, reading, a book painting, drawing needle work of any kind carpentry you name it I do it. There’s nothing wrong with that and that is tens of thousands of dollars worth of therapy talking, I thought there was something wrong with me because I did not like to be in big groups of people and have dozens and dozens of friends and I spent a long time trying to figure out why and what I realize is it doesn’t matter why but I like being like this.
Also, I am so proud of you for making Swiss meringue buttercream! As a former pastry chef, I can tell you it’s something that I always enjoyed making. It’s very satisfying.
    And now I want cake…
Also,, pro tip --do not put baked goods in the refrigerator. It’s bad for them it ruins the crumb moisture gets inside of the cells that happen during leavening. It gets trapped in there and makes your baked goods gummy. If you must keep them for more than a day, freeze them as they are with the buttercream, and they will freeze perfectly, and they will thaw out perfectly, but leaving it in the refrigerator is bad. Very very bad.❤❤❤
Keep doing what makes you happy

Agreed. I love running and have been running for 20 years. Alone. No running group for me lol!
I have lots of artsy hobbies and have enjoyed group activities for those in the past. But I also realised that just having the same interests doesn’t mean your fellow hobbyists will have similar values or lifestyle that will make them great friends.

@@nele9045 I cannot imagine something more torturous than running with another person.
Maybe Christmas shopping with another person would be worse but I don’t know it’s a close call.

For natural nails check out DIOR apricot nail creme, it is so good at keeping nail/cuticles moisturized, which then makes your nails look healthy. In the USA it costs $30 used, well worth it.

Hi Caitlin! Thank you for this video! It was really nice to see how you are keeping yourself busy other than luxury shopping and how you are enjoying it. I am also spending money on travels, beauty treatments, just massages and am looking to start a new hobby, but not sure yet on what. I am also loving Essie, I have so far just 3 colours, but I am happy that I stopped getting my manicure with gel or shellac, I hated to waste all that time and money. I also have one of those laundry baskets, but mine has just Dark and Light sections. I am sorry you have been told that about your wine bottles. I don't drink wine, but my husband loves it, I guess if someone sees my wine section would assume the same about me now! Hahahahahahaa! I can't believe how people can be so judgemental. Regarding bags, I am allowing myself just 2 bags per year, but putting a limit on the value, not going over £2k, I am done chasing brands with their stupid price increases. PS. Your cupcake looked amazing, that flower looked like it is done by a professional, Well done!

I think skin care and physical & mental health are excellent priorities-and will work for every budget. For shopping, quality clothing and shoes. And the occasional handbag. 💖 June

When you said the Tiganello was very expensive I was thinking thousands. It’s “only” about $150 USD here. Enjoy it! I realized I didn’t have hobbies anymore either after a rigorous educational program. Now I’m back into finding who I am outside of work. And I am also enjoying spending my money on a bunch of fun things instead of just a couple purses a year! Cheers 🎉🎉🎉

I stopped getting gel nails done when the Pest hit. I haven't gone back. I do them myself now with Alessandro Striplac. They last like 2-3 weeks and then it peels off. They have so many great colors. I play around with nail art a little (as far as my shaky left hand lets me LOL) and it's very therapeutic. Pop on my headphones, music and just be in my nail bubble. I've also saved SO much money in the process!

I made a list of 24 things in 2024 that I wasn't going to buy and physical books was on that list. I'm trying to get more oriented towards e-books and so far, so good! Two I would recommend--"The Boss" by Abigail Barnette and "The Housemaid" by Freida McFadden. I've never tried Essie polish, will have to give it a try. And agree 100% with you as far as quality of clothing, I do sew and quite honestly, I'm appalled at some of the stuff I'm seeing and it's across the board. The home filtration system may seem like an extravagance, but if you live in an area with high mineral content, it may end up saving you money in the end on plumbing repairs, appliances, etc.

I’ve been spending on things that make life easier, I never did that much because I was very energetic so it was a difficult adjustment in terms of mindset! Aside from necessities I used to mostly spend on seeing friends or helping/treating them because my personality’s very social. But now I have chronic illness so I can rarely leave the house. I barely have the energy to keep my closest friends and a few others who’ve been very understanding! Filling in all my time with so little energy to do so is difficult and gaming prevents me scrolling since it provides similar audio/visual interest. I felt so bad about spending on games until I thought about how much I used to spend. Gaming isn’t active enough for me to do often when I’m well so I felt like I was wasting money - because what if I get better? But I spent on temporary things when I was well without judging myself. My spending has decreased. I just have more time to overthink it now!

I was going to suggest Dazzle Dry as you were talking about Essie! I started seeing a medical nail tech last year and she introduced me to Dazzle Dry. I bought the system for myself. It lasts about a week when I apply it, but it lasts up to 2 weeks when she does my nails (especially if I wear gloves while doing the dishes). They have a ridiculously long tutorial video on their website, but I highly recommend! Looking forward to hearing how it works for you.

First of all, those people judging the wine rack can go… ok I’ll be nice and say jump in a lake. Second, I recommend reading Dying To Be Me. A few years ago my little sister passed away in a car accident. I was destroyed to put it mildly. An SA recommended this book and eventually one day just got it for me by surprise when I visited her to shop. Obviously more than just an SA 🥲. Anyway, the book is the true story about a woman’s (winning) fight with death and how her case baffled doctors and scientists around the world. Makes you believe there are strong forces beyond what we know in this life and that’s all I’ll say. We’ll more than likely all lose a loved one and this puts a positive spin on what we don’t know about the human spirit’s ability to fight. Easy read and highly recommended. Love your insight and channel 🫶🏼

As someone who grew up with an actual alcoholic, if that's your actual problem, you're not gonna buy a pretty wine rack for fancy wine. You're gonna hide the fact that you drink multiple bottles of the cheapest stuff with the highest %.
Of course there are people who do show off their actual addiction, but I think most people don't showcase a substance addiction like that in their living room😅
My busband collects special beer bottles and loves doing diy brewing kits. But he rarely drinks it. He just likes to collect it on trips or special occasions.
