Another great song by Sabaton is the song called “The Last Battle”, it tells the story about Castle Itter in WW2. One of my faves; amazing how many differences people can put aside to do what is right.
Lets be honest, most of their stuff is awesome, we could list off most of their albums
@@CadarnTheMad1810 True! Sabaton do not have A lot of bad songs. And I just love that their songs always have a real story from history behind it, and in the lyrics.
Should have watched till the end. There is little known background of the song and history of it´s release at the end part.
The easy German win turned into auto-resolve jokes from total war series
The fortress was designed to be defended with, surprisingly, few men.
Yes and was three battles of the Osowiec fortress. When 3rd attack Germans using chlorine gas. When start charge Germans retreat suprising attack of the dying russians. That was called attack of the dead men
who the f**k disliked this? I love this channel and these videos
7 of the germans who were publically attacked and shunned for running away
@@stevenzwiesler8085 Its´s 8 germans now :P
From what I've heard, 10-12 men of the 100 "dead men" survived not only their injuries in that battle, but the first world war.
Yeah, the last one died sometime around 2004 to 2008 I believe
Source, please ?
@@charloteauxvalerian3875 Google
@@Ticki It was 2003, First name was Alek, I dont remember the last
@@Ticki It was Alek Darsovich, he died in 2003 and was born it the 1890s, man not only lived through that battle, and the war, he lived in three different centuries and two millenia

"Never underestimate the power of the...."
me in my head "the dark side?"
history guy: "psicologial warfare"
I mean, they seem close
Close enough. Both hold great power with those weak of mind ^^
You asked if any survived. All, but 12-24 actually died within the next week due to their injuries from the fight and gas I believe. 2 were recorded to still be alive by the year 2000.
Where did you find this?
@@accountformusic7298 Several documentaries and the few accounts by survivors in them. Its been a few months so I don't remember fully. Look up osowiec documentaries on youtube and that should give you what you need. I can't remember if correct, but I think they said the last confirmed survivor of the battle died in 2005. After the battle, most of the troops there simply fall out of the records, so its assumed they died. I'll see if I can find the one where they interviewed the last survivor of the battle again. If i do, I'll put here in this comment. But for the record, even that one states that records are spotty due to the chaos of war the the soviets.
@@markmulder9845 Ahhh, thank you! Ill check it out.
So much to recommend from Sabatons 9 albums since they started out in 1999. And they just announced their 10th album a couple of weeks ago 🇸🇪 Heroes is a good album to check out 🤟
Wautwaitwait! 😉
I would like to mention that the plan, the so-called "Schlieffen plan" should actually called the "Moltke plan" because while count von Schlieffen *had* published *a* plan for a two-front war it was a pensioneers mind game with the important unsolved problem of a possible collapse of the logistics for the western offensive never truly solved (and mentioned as a continuing problem by the count) and essentially an applied result of and emerging from von Schlieffen's fascination with and search for a deductable formulae from the battle of Cannae - he had previously published a series of analyses called "Cannae studies" - it was decidedly *not* the plan for the eventual opening offensive of the war used by von Moltke the Younger (some also say "the Lesser" as opposed to his uncle, the victor of the Unification Wars of 1864, 1866 and 1870/1871).
While it bears a superficial similarity and *is* deducted from war games and analyses held and comissioned by both von Schlieffen in his tenure as Chief of the General Staff *and* von Moltke in *his* it was different to the degree of being a completely different operation under substantially different circumstances (the number of deployable formations from peactime conditions and the mobilisation times of the four powers chiefly involved initially - Germany, Austria-Hungary, France and Russia - had substantially increased and decreased).
Von Moltke had, rightly so, added divisions to the 8th army in the east (the very formation that carried the war into Congress Poland when this song takes place after completely annihilating Samsonov's 2nd army in the Battle of Tannenberg and the effectively neutralising 1st army under von Rennenkampf at the First Battle of the Masurian Lakes) and striped some from the already insanely congested western offensive.
While many will claim the Western Offensive failed at the Marne because of this and von Moltke lost the war for Germany in this initial campaign they willfully overlook, or intionally ignore, that the the war might well have been won in the west with German troops in Paris and still lost if the unexpectedly quick mobilizing Russians had brushed a reduced 8th army (presumably still under the command of the allegedly weak-nerved von Prittwitz) aside in eastern Prussia and taken Berlin.
Sorry - it's been a pet peeve of mine for years🙀.
Best regards
Raoul G. Kunz
So first things first, Indy Nidel was the host of The Great War channel on youtube which discussed the events of WWI in a week by week format on the 100th anniversary of each week, look it up, it's great! Secondly, on the suggestions for people who are voting's consideration, I suggest 40:1
Hey VTH, if you love Sabaton, you ought to check out some of Iron Maiden's historical songs, too.
Anyone of these should do the trick, and are some of my personal favorites.
* Aces High (about the Battle of Britain through the eyes of a British ace).
* Two Minutes to Midnight (about the Cold War).
* Paschendale
* Alexander the Great.
* Empire of the Clouds (about the crash of the R101).
* Montsegur.
* Afraid to Shoot Strangers (according to Bruce, the singer, about the Gulf War).
you should do Angels calling by sabaton love that one and the story behind it is good and they collaborated with apocoalytica on that one
I can recommend "Radio Tapok" cover on this song (russian cover). It has descent background video.
Maybe if not for reaction but at least to introduce yourself
Even better the short film that was used for Tapok's video «Атака мертвецов: Осовец» - Короткометражный фильм ruclips.net/video/U518G8fUk6o/видео.html
It has English subtitles.
Finding any records of potential survivors of the battle is extremely difficult as they were either destroyed or sealed away during the Russian Revolution.
they say "do it or die trying", in Russia it is "die but do it"
The attack in February so concerned Russian High Command, that they asked the defenders to hold out for two days to evacuate civilians. The garrison held out until August, six months. By then holding the fortress was completely untenable, and von Mackensen's Gorlice-Tarnov Offensive had the Russian army on the run, effectively out flanking Oscowiec.
Keep up the amazing work love learned much more from you than my history teacher
Not surprising that records are sparse. Half my family is from Latvia and trying to find any history on them before they came to the US is almost impossible
On a side note, Sabaton's live shows are amazing to watch, so please check some of them out!
I'm actually getting tired recommending Cliff of Galipoli but I won't stop until I get noticed.
A great song indeed.
Please do a reaction video about the Sabaton song "Winged hussars" , it´s one of my favorites and I love the story behind it.
The reason there was so few defenders was because at the time, the Russians were pulling back their forces all along the front, and holding this fort was crucial to protecting the flanks of the retreating Russian forces.
I would suggest Last Stand!
It’s great
The fortress like all others and castles where created in a way that their wouldn't have to be a lot of defenders and that the armies in the field could have more men
love your work when covid hit, i was so happy i saw your channel made me a lot more interested in world war 2 and 1. My favorit is still the crusades and the medival times. :)
Worlds only confirmed zombie attack
zombie's are brainless walking corpses. Brainless. So i think this not correct.
You should check out the band "Civil War". It was formed by former Sabaton members and sing about history as well like "Bay of Pigs" and "Gettysburg"
The history about the song "Saboteurs" are closest to my heart.
I don't know if you'll see this, but I hope you react to 1914-The hundred days offensive. It's a really cool song, you'll appreciate it a lot hopefully since you're into this stuff
I read a comment to this song once that will forever stay whit me: They were to angry to die.....
I wonder how many of those gas effected Russians were asking to be shot or broke rank in the madness.
And/or knew they wouldn't make it, so they decided to do as much as they could to their enemy with what little time they had left.
What I think what was the worst psychological part for the Germans: nowadays, the look of Zombies is nothing unusual. I mean, you don't expect to see them in real life, but through horror movies, the walking dead, game of thrones, etc., there is already some little sort of optical resemblance. Back then, they have not seen anything like this even in fiction.
You should react to the video of the Russian version of the song.
Some survived but their commander died later on after the battle
React on the Ballad of Bull, or Ghost division. Would be awesome 😄
That had to have been crazy situation
Hey just found your channel and enjoying the content! I would say to check out the following:
The Future of Warfare
Cliffs of Galipoli
Rourke's Drift
And saving the best 'till last - Great War
I recommend Cliffs of Gallipoli and The Ballard of Bull
I am surprised you haven’t touched on the ANZAC/ Gallipoli campaign unless I haven’t had a proper look.
Yeah I did a video on ANZAC day about it
I dont know that any survived that were actually in the gas. Ive seen somewhere that those on the flanks lived but they didnt get that dose of gas. The man who lead the counterattack did in fact die later that night. But considering the agony that would have been to live for even the 4-6 hours after the gas... i mean, hell no isnt strong enough to describe my feelings on that.
The last dying breath. But play the fan made video because it's the most superior version to any other (think it has the most views as well tbf).
The answer is no survivors of the war.
I know this was posted 4 months ago, but if you ever found out whether any of the original hundred defenders survived... I would like to know :)
Do a reaction about Price of a mile and Lost Battallion
Hi, I just see you have really much stuff about the US Civil War. There is a band even called "Civil War". They emerged from Sabaton in 2012 and their texts so far deal with the US Civil War. They release a new album this year, I don't know what it will be about. Maybe you want to look into it. They made 4 proper music vids, AFAIK.
And after that battle we have saying "Russians don't surrender" (русские не сдаются), to be honest it's in our blood, also we have saying "Die, but do!" (умри, но сделай!).
Russian soldiers were evacuated after it looked like the Germans were going to encircle the fort it was too damaged for use anyways.
Jees
i cant help but hope none of the gassed russian defenders, that took part int he "attack of the dead men", survived. haing been so horrible wounded and scared, with half dissolved lungs and eyes to be just be able to survive? i am not sure that a goal worth aiming for.. and with the income situation for most families in that time.. a dead weight just wasnt affordable...so you would be half dead in a ditch somewhere
After ww1 mask became an incredible popular item that was sold to the soldiers that returned from the front, as many of the side effects of the chemicals that were used to gas troops left deformities in the nasal cavities, jaws and eyes. The masks were creepy AF but it was far better than what lies underneath. So you know, one more thing to think about if you thought that surviving was the difficult part.
It is believed that after the Germans fled the Russian soldiers died inevitably from their gas wounds but who knows after all this event is somewhat also shrouded in mystery
The War that never needed to happen. Even the Kaiser and the Czar didn't want to wage war. Politicians always have to be politicians though. It irritates me that those same politicians were safe in the rear and never had to experience chemical warfare themselves.
Why are u skipping the end??
Could you please react to Panzerkampf by sabaton? I really like this song
Pls blood of bannuckburn 🙏
It's not so far from Wizna
Штыковая атака и рукопашный бой - визитная карточка русской армии...
I mean, medically, it seems unlikely that even today *anyone* could've survived that. The Russians didn't have the best medical system either, and seeing as their bodies where so badly damaged to the point where the only way they're not overcome with pain is pure adrenaline, I'd assume none of them survived.
Ppfff.
Remember Nazi Zombies?
What about Call Of Duty Russian Zombies?
