Memories come back in a flood! I lived in Erdington (Hillaries Road) for many years from early 1950s to mid 1960s, went to Slade Road School (later Handsworth Grammar) next to the Star Cinema and the Brookvale Pub. Erdington High Street played a big part in my teenage life, it had 2 cinemas, the Palace was one I can't remember the name of the other but do remember that I saw The Dambusters there. When I first went to the Carlton Club (later Mothers) over the furniture store opposite the church The Moody Blues and Carl Wayne and the Vikings were the regulars and anyone remember Pandora's on Orphanage Road? Hours were spent making a coffee last in the Griddle Inn and the Pop Inn and we bought our records (vinyl) from Redifusion at 6 ways and the Music Box. In my mind's eye it's so clear, Burtons Snooker Hall opposite The Acorn and Gardeners Milk Bar on the corner, the swimming baths, Woolworths the market opposite etc. etc.I even lived for a while in Harrison Road off the High Street, I loved it, but what a disappointment to see it now, all it's former charm gone - That's life I guess!
at 21 seconds that is me in my old silver cougar crossing over the lights at the crosskeys pub! how weird. I would love the original photo. Get in touch someone?

An ancient prophecy foretold of a place that was truly more bostin' than many other bostin' things. This place would be so epic, t'would spawn not one, but TWO Poundlands ! The Hanging gardens of Babylon and The Grand Canyon pale into insignificance in comparison! That place is ERDINGTON !!! 🤔 " Ees right yer know, it's really good. An' the number 11 guzz there" !!!
