USB-C is something I both love and hate. I love the improvement it is over USB-micro, but hate how not all USB-C cables are not made equally. I recently started using Android Auto and it is persnickety about the grade of cable you use.

    • @mjc0961
      @mjc0961 2 года назад +8

There have always been low quality USB cables. That's not really USB C's fault. It's just that now we have technology that demands enough bandwidth and/or power for the low quality cables to get exposed for what there are.

All usb 3.0 type A cables are not made equally, some are made with 480mbps bandwith and some have 5-10 Gbps. Its always been that way every since the USB 3.x standard started in 2008.

hey i work in auto around apple car play and android auto every day. i can tell you its mostly apple people with issues i see. of course i agree with what you said above, i just thought anyone who reads this may find my experience helpful. APPLE USERS: you must use an OEM apple lightning cord to ensure better experiences. some 3rd party ones work, sure. but most dont. At least on the Android side of things ive seen way better usage on aftermarket cables without issue.. crazy tho so many apple clients with their phones have issues if they dont use an original lightning cord.

It's pretty incredible that these monitors essentially replaced the usb switcher that you had for your M1 and PC (in the November 2021 M1 Max setup video). Definitely part of the dream setup. I have just used switchers for my monitors and they get the job done but aren't perfect. Also setup my desk to have two mice/keyboards, which has been surprisingly easy, but definitely takes up room.

I've always been a console gamer as well, until last year. I didn't think that I cared about high frame rates or even a high resolution for the longest time, until I built my first gaming PC and chucked a 3070 in there, and connected it to my LG nano 85 with 4k 120hz, and then after that a 1440p 165hz monitor. I have to say, my eyes have been opened.... Now I absolutely love high frame rates at higher resolutions, and it's kind of hard to go back to just 60 frames a second sometimes, or even 30 on the switch in some games. Everything just looks and feels.... BETTER at high refresh rates and high resolutions. Now I understand why people have loved PC so vehemently over the years, and esp now with the RTX 30 series. i think its worth noting they only have a bandwidth on the hdmi 2.1 port of ~24 GB/s which limits the chroma subsampling to 4:2:0. REAL hdmi ports have a bandwidth over 48 GB/s and should do proper 4:4:4 chroma subsampling.

I play on a 65' TV that's got HDMI 2.1 but I sit in a Lazy Boy instead of my couch, I don't really like couches anyway and always prefer to sit in an actual chair. I've tried gaming and office chairs but none are as comfortable as a dedicated living room chair for longer sessions. That way you can use a large TV but don't have to sit back like you do on a couch as they can rock foward and still provide back support. I also have mine on a lower to the floor entertainment center so the TV is at eye level, I hate having to look up when gaming. Having such a large screen means you don't have to sit as close as a monitor which can cause eye strain during long sessions as well. I sit about 5ish feet away from the screen. I don't live in NYC though so I have the privilege of having a lot of room to work with.

Just got one for Xmas, and was absolutely blown away with the color accuracy of this panel. Gaming is an absolute blast in 4k, although COD MWII relies on DLSS so my RTX 3070ti doesn’t take flight. I use standard color mode, black equalizer at 10, and Off or Balance for overdrive (can’t really see a difference with the naked eye on those two), Local Dimming mode off, and that’s about it. This monitor has HDR, but not really, so stick with SDR, and you’ll be totally content.

I like the line about 2 monitors being excessive. I usually run 2 monitors also, but that's per system. My home PC (both 27") and my work laptop (both 24"). And when my work laptop isn't on, I re-purpose one of it's screens as a third monitor for my home PC setup. Then, off to the left of my 4 screen setup, I also have a 27" 1440p 144Hz Asus curved monitor that I run my Series X, Nintendo Switch and PS Vita TV through. So yeah, my home office has 5 monitors in there. And my DJ rig with a separate laptop for that too, so I guess 6 screens total in my little office, ha ha. I'd say that is probably excessive.

Just got my ASUS TUF 28U and have been messing around with HDR settings on my Xbox Series X. I've never had an HDR display (tho its HDR40 which apparently is the bare minimum) and its definitely a noticeable difference from my 1440p non-HDR display. From what I've seen with people's videos the Gigabyte has more display settings to mess around with. The ASUS has a lot of different "modes" that fine-tune video adjustments depending on what type of game you're playing. I mainly play Destiny 2 which is a FPS so I have it set to "FPS Mode".
I'm still figuring out the best settings for HDR. It's a brighter monitor than my last one so I actually find it very bright when gaming at night (I sit 2-3 feet away). When HDR is enabled it doesn't let me adjust the brightness settings or anything like that on the monitor, so I have to adjust my brightness in-game. I found that weird but I assume that's just how it has to work to get the best HDR visual looks. I managed to turn off HDR at one point and lowered the brightness on the monitor to 50 which I kind of prefer. I also turned off all of the auto-dimming and auto-adjust settings too, they were creating weird blobs in-game. I'm sure I'll mess with them more but for now they're off.
Overall I don't think I'd switch to the Gigabyte, but I also wouldn't say the HDR on the ASUS is a game-changer either. The both cost the same on Amazon I think (I got a Renewed ASUS for even cheaper which luckily didn't have any issues). The ASUS doesn't have that KVM mode to my knowledge, so if you like that I'd get the Gigabyte.
Update: I had to turn the HDR off because something HDR related in Destiny kept making the monitor go black for a second. I think the monitor switched HDR off then back on for a second but it happened twice in 30 minutes which got me killed in-game so that was that.

Bad take, blinded by the sponsor. WARNING: This monitor is LIMITED to 24 Gbps over HDMI 2.1, so it will NOT work to the "full potential" of the next gen consoles as you state multiple times. A better monitor, when stock is available, is the MSI Optix MPG321UR-QD. Weird name aside, it has FULL 48Gbps bandwidth, much better color accuracy than this GIgabyte M32U, HDR 600 where this GIgabyte is HDR400 (not enough to be noticeable; HDR 600 is better, but the edge local dimming isn't great either-- Pretty much every single 4K monitor less than 43" on the market today is trash or overpriced), and the MSI even has the KVM too.
Honest take: If you're impatient, this one is a good monitor, but be aware PS5 owners that you will be limited to 4K120 4:2:0 with blurry text until SOny eventually releases the DSC update, which knowing their track record is.... don't hold your breath. If you want the best 32" for the money out, get the MSI one, and note it hit $750 during Black Friday so when stock is available, keep an eye on price. If you want actual gaming monitors with good latency (none of these are great, check Hardware Unboxed reviews), wait until 2022 for 32"" IPS 4K panels to just get better. They ALL compromise something and are overpriced for those compromises.

I really like the video and the monitors of course. I used to work with a dedicated KVM switch back at my last job, they were a nightmare to set up and very expensive. These monitors are very interesting as a first monitor for my son as he doesn't have much space. A bit pricey but i guess they'll drop in price in the next few months.

As A Sony/Playstation User I'm So Disappointed With The Current State Of The PS5...
Yes if you get HDMI 2.1 you can get 4K @120hz but only on certain titles and most of them are games with mediocre graphics which it's graphics don't require much detail. So for example, right now I have a 1080p 25 inch gaming with the ps5 for competitive gaming, but I have noticed that the image does not look sharp at all even if the monitor is 25 inch.. So I wanted like a 27 Inch Monitor with 1440p resolution to play at 120hz but guess what!! The PS5 does no support native 1440p resolution which is a huge disappointment in my opinion. The Series X Can Do 1440p @120hz for Warzone imagine playing that game on a 27 Inch Monitor.. Great Graphics And Great performance but the PS5 won't do that so you have to stick either with 120hz @1080p or jump all the way to 4k @60hz which is lame... I mean yes Sony said that in the future the PS5 will support 1440p but it's been like a year already still no 1440p support, I didn't buy the PS5 to wait a lot for upgrades... 🤦‍♂️
I forgot to mention that, you don't need HDMI 2.1 To Get 1440p @120hz HDMI 2.0 can do that.

I have a Dell S2721DGF 27" IPS 1440p 165hz monitor. I love it a lot. It even has HDR, although only HDR400, which for the $450 price point I wish it was better, but Windows 11's Auto-HDR feature definitely takes advantage of the HDR capability and makes all my games look better than they did in Windows 10. But the monitor itself is amazing. Has G-sync and everything as well. It's perfect for me and my use cases, which is just gaming on my PC and switch (using the mClassic to upscale the switch i.age to 1440p, which makes it look better imo) and content consumption. However I have a PS5 but because the PS5 doesn't support 1440p, I have it hooked up to my LG nano 85 49" TV which does have HDMI 2.1 and HDR10 😊

HDMI 2.1 but only 24hz I have a Samsung tv which is similar but the one issue it does have is it does not support 4k 120fps AND Dolby Atmos at the same time due to this limitation. However as it is for my office, I am thinking about buying this.. Shame it does not have the full 48ghz support for future-proofing... But something people should be aware of

The issue with this monitor is more an issue with the ps5, but you can't avoid it. The limit on the HDMI 2.1 bandwidth means you get a lesser experience with the ps5. If some chroma subsampling doesn't bother you (or like me struggle to even tell) that's fine, but it's something to note. It's only an issue at 120fps.

The algorithm seems to work! Never watched any of your vids before, but happened to be in the market for a monitor, and this popped up. Love that non-"techie" content creators are discovering the need for and application of KVM switches. Perhaps, this will drive more adoption across monitors. Currently swimming in a sea of cables and i would very much like for that to change. For this lovely video, I humbly submit one sub.
