Itll probably be used in specific elements, but wont replace as the infantry rifle. While its a good design, it wont work for general infantry use. The m4 carbine is extremely hard to beat for reliability in all conditions.
BTW it would never be called the M5, since Colt had already trademarked that name. Hence the change in designation from XM5 to XM7. (Why they skipped XM6, who knows?)

The average working man will not be able to add this guy to the collection anytime soon. Oh my God! It's insane. Sure costs will drop in time, but $7000.00? Seriously?

I would ask for someone to please explain why they would wait to release the civilian commercial version in 6.8/.277 when they already have all that tooling and manufacturing implements in place? Why would they release the other calibers first when they have already made a bunch of the 6.8 versions? I am sure they have their reasons but it does not make sense to me.
2 reasons: 1: 6.8/.277 is a brand new cartridge that's extremely expensive and rare to acquire. Making it available in .308, especially with how easily convertible it is to 6.8 later down the road makes it attractive to more people 2: Their 6.8 manufacturing line is most likely prioritizing their military contract right now
I remember hearing that the side charger is only part of the weapon because that's what big military wanted. It does look cool though. There are a lot of other battle rifle platforms that have side chargers too with better price tags. Scar 17, Galil Ace, Apc308, Bren 2 Br, etc...
The side charger isn't that awesome actually...it is very hard to pull so when prone you are like getting cramps and tearing your rotator cuff trying to rack the thing and you can't see what's going on in the chamber area...I use the T charging handle 94% of the time

Did you fix the issue with ejection where lefties get a mouthful of brass? I mean ambi is nice and all but when I tested the M5 with 277 Fury, when I went weak side the brass left marks on my face.

@@znutar consider this, pressure different between civilian 277 fury and military 6.8x51 would change ejection pattern just like dog water tula 233 vs hot m855 or mk262 in ar15.
@@TrollinCrazyRussian I was using their brass range ammo and their medium spec 277 (not the full yeet military rounds) so that suggests that the full military strength cartridge would have even worse problems. Considering I was using Sig ammo in a Sig gun you would think it would be tuned to work properly with it. Having shot the gun and a fair few rounds on full auto, the brass deflector design is just plain deficient.

CRS is a glue sniffing windbag who simply has a hate boner for the rifle. The entire story that it's being dropped is 100% fake and is literally the opposite of what's happening.
Expect stuff like the M7-SPEAR to appear more in FPS games down the line as the go-to rifle of choice for Allied forces (mainly the U.S.). It's already in the newer Battlefield and CoD games as a usable weapon, alongside the new Delta Force game.

I adjust the stock away from the receiver a cpl postions and push the button and pull up on buffer tube and it releases...mine is unusually hard as well...after playing w it alot it has loosened up some

If you get one putting a stick on brass defector rubber product should change brass angle to eject farther forward.

6.8x51 and .277 FURY are the same round/caliber just different names. They are the same pressures, bullet, velocity, etc.
