Great to see this movie again, one of my favorite car chase flicks. This movie needs a proper video release. A restored print on Blu Ray would be awesome, hopefully one day. There seems to be a chase scene missing from this print, if memory serves; wasn't it with a 71 or 72 white Cadillac Eldorado and it went into a construction tunnel and into a man made lake... something along those lines. Anybody remember that from this movie or am I thinking of another one. Thanks for sharing.
@timothycook6342 You're correct. There's a chase scene of a 1971 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado at the 34 minute mark on a different copy of this movie upload here on youtube.
Life was so cool back in the 70’s. There was hardly anything to do, but driving cars like you stole them, avoid some other random exploding ones, joking on the cb, chasing girls, and say hello to the boss once a day, as an excuse to flirt with his secretary.
This was fun to watch, fun to see these well known actors semi-young, fun to see how cheap big cars were -to bash up-.. -even with the bad lighting/color timing, raw audio issues and no CGI in the background while driving, I loved it.
I'm from Phoenix and saw some of the filming and met a few of the cast (Richard Jaeckel, James Griffith (the wino) and Robert Loggia) The film was overshadowed by the bigger budget Eastwood flick "The Gauntlet". That was the actual main police station (which they are now getting ready to move out of) The airport terminal was the original Terminal 1 at Sky Harbor airport. Wow was it good to see the interior which hadn't changed much since 1952. The race track was the beloved Manzanita Speedway, a Phoenix icon for decades that was closed not too many years ago so greedy developers could put more subdivisions in. This was the Phoenix that I miss so much which wasn't overpopulated that it is now (I left in 1990 as it wasn't home anymore) Found this on VHS at a truck stop about 20 years ago.
@@CarChaseWonderland2 Yep traffic had to get off at 27th Ave so they could do the interchange with I-17. Glad I worked nights back then so I didn't have to deal with all the bottlenecks.
The filmmakers certainly didn't waste any time with this one. Right after the opening title shot inside the garage, the police chase on the open All-American great highway is full on. People certainly knew how to live back in the 1970s. I am so glad that in my life, the 1970s fell between age 18 and 28.
Mine was 2 and 11...im still missed off.😊 but as a child it was still cool as he'll to be born in 68. Could have went to Woodstock...not that I would have known it...peace out😮
Wanna watch a great movie, watch baker with Mathuew in the 1973 movie I can't remember it's name but it's a classic, Walter drives a crop duster, robs a bank. Of course joe Don is the tough guy hit man great movie😅
Saturday night at the drive-in. Rolling joints from a "lid" of marijuana leaf (15 bucks) later ,a trip to the concession stand for a wonderful tasting burger. My buddy walking ahead back to the VW...but wait, what's this ? he's getting into the wrong car. ha ha " hey Tom, what's the matter with you, man? " A long time ago, another world.
What a nasty end to a nice Jensen Interceptor. I had my hands on one for a short time when I was 19 in 1984. It was a ball to drive and a super rare car, too bad they DESTROYED one 🤣🤣🤣
I absolutely loved car chase movies when I was younger. Now, they're PAINFUL to watch. Not because they're not good movies but because of all the carnage of those beautiful classic cars. Didn't this spin off a TV show where Novick was the police commissioner?
I'm only familiar with the Jensen Interceptor (in the opening chase) from watching Jay Leno's Garage over the years. He features/discusses/drives one in one of his videos. Jusy an fyi
Jensen? sweet like an Aston Martin Lagonda V8 with a Torqueflite 8, simply smashing, shift out of 1st at 70 and never into 3rd without a race track, woaaa nelly
Anyone know where you can get the soundtracks for this movie? I know Speedtrap theme is available, but what about the Anthony Harris stuff like in the beginning garage scene? Great music in this movie!
The burnout in the mustang hatchback at 16:07 is notable for both the tire throwing what looks like actual flames, and the beauty of the car itself. Detroit's golden age, it really was. Then they destroy the entire front end, and must've totalled the car less than a minute later. Somehow, I don't think that was the intention of the scene, driving it head on into a pick up truck. Brought a tear to my eye. That car WANTED TO LIVE!
Born and raised there, 1954. Left in 1990 as enough already had been destroyed. So glad there is much Phoenix scenery in this movie to remind me. Probably the saddest casualty on here is Manzanita Speedway which closed I think in 2014 so greedy developers could put a subdivision in. The last time I was there was in 2015 and I don't miss it.
Why is dude driving the Starsky and Hutch car? This has got a huge budget for crashing cars, that's for sure. I wonder if the original print is lost forever. There's an endless parade of amazing period vehicles in this film. The scene where a crowd of people evacuate to a canal instead of getting hit by cars seems really risky. Shot in Phoenix, 1970s Phoenix.
Wow Tyne Daly went from The Enforcer to this bad B movie? I guess she should have switched agents. This movie seems to have borrowed elements of other 70s car chase movies and cop TV shows. Every time a pursuit starts they cut to the same mirror glasses close up.
Well it's Official this is 1 of the dumbest movies ever. The guy is supposed to be a great car thief but he hits everything he gets near. People back in the 70s must have been the most ignorant people ever.

@@CarChaseWonderland2 I got a VHS tape (later converted to DVD) in 2006 and it has the white Eldorado chase scene in it.
I loved this. Never seen it before, but glad i did. Please put up more full gems like this.
I really enjoyed it definitely needs a restored blu ray release thank you 😀
Thank You for keep uploading this great Car chase action movie with some legendary Cars and So on ❤❤❤👌👍
Glad you enjoy it!

Can't stand Tyne Daly, only watched because Baker is a BADASSS Actor.
Tyne looked real good in this Movie. Check out the " standard issue " heels she's wearing in her first scene lol

I lived in Phoenix for a half year back in 1987 when they were just first starting construction to run I-10 thru the city.
@@CarChaseWonderland2 Yep traffic had to get off at 27th Ave so they could do the interchange with I-17. Glad I worked nights back then so I didn't have to deal with all the bottlenecks.

and they complained about the Pinto's blowing up. every second car in this movie was blowing up.
love it
watch episodes of CHiPs...lol
nice find - great stunt driving and an interesting plot that crosses 1970's car chase movies with a film noir detective story

This version seems really cut down - just a bit over 90 minutes!! Theatrical version was just shy of 2 hours at 113 minutes.
Car's Blew Up So Easily in the 70's 😂
The pinto really did
its like they all carried dynamite in the trunk...lol
1:05 Push button start -- 1977 early edition.... Priceless. 3:36 One simple chase -- two vehicles totaled. Like I said, priceless.

Speedtrap 1977 is one of the best car chase movies ever made together with Cannonball from 1976.
EXCELLENT! Joe Don Baker is awesome 👌 I'm trying to find a good copy of Fear is the key 1972 with Barry Newman. That has a great car chase sequence
Ah... 1970s car chase movies where a single unbroken slomo shot shows a full car jump. Good times.
should be finally remastered on bluray
Great Movie dont know about the black box though its a bit far fetched the black box Worth Watching thanks
I'm here for the Cars & 70's High Tech 😉

their car was a 1976 Ford Torino named the striped tomato
Love that Charger
These new fangled cars These days with their auto start and self driving what will they think of coming up in the 80,s. It's going to be crazy.
First few mins I see the bridges at Tempe Az over the salt River bed.
Sir Laurence Olivier and Richard Burton were after the lead role 🤔
The Jensen Interceptor is RHD on uk registration plates
Why was the cop wearing a crash helmet in his car?
Novick? Mitchell or Geronimo III. Well go ahead On!! *(does MST3 K lnow about this movie?)
