I can’t believe the Blade 16 can get the max GPU wattage. That’s a HUGE contrast to prior Blade laptops. Also the resolution switch and bigger battery are welcome upgrades.

Is it a stupid price for a laptop? yep....poss £4.5 K for the 4090 version....sure.But at my age , based on the fact you can't take it with you when you die ...fuck it, might as well enjoy it whilst you can !!!
Still have my Razer Blade 2080 Max-Q from 2019-ish. The battery swelled several times and had to be replaced, but otherwise it's really great. But I much prefer the Lenovo Legion that I got as part of my IT upgrade expenses. Razer's unibody design is much more attractive, but the Legion's keyboard and screen are significantly better. Of course, the max TDP of my 2080 MQ is 90w while the legion's 3080 is 175w (Thanks to Legion allowing the TDP to unlock/overclock). So the performance differential is quite extreme for a single generation.
At the end of the day, would you rather carry your heavy gaming PC around or your slightly heavy laptop with better performance and cooling? I think the latter, I love the slim look of Razer laptops but it's not worth the compromise.
Correction on the blade 16 display, Jarrod said you can dynamically switch between 4k and 1080p mode, but razer said in an interview, you have to do a system reboot to change the resolutions.
Yeah, it's a bit dissapointing. Hopefully they come out with a refreshed 14" unit with top tier parts especially with the newer efficient GPU's and CPU's. We'll see. Thanks Jarod.
I still don’t really see any other aluminum ‘unibody’ laptops reflecting Apple’s chassis build quality for cheaper. Either it’s individual aluminum panels put together, with tons of panel gaps, or plasticiky laptops offering same specs for much cheaper. That may satisfy the vast majority of students and people looking at performance per dollar, but just doesn’t feel premium enough to me. It’s unfortunate because there need to be more competitors with similar build quality (like the erstwhile Eluktronics Mag 15 series) to keep prices down. Some of us actually appreciate build quality over just being obsessed with price + specs. Because of their niche, Razer can continue to charge high prices. Early 2019 Razer Blade 15 owner here btw, no battery bloat, can still play Warzone 2 on it. My OC’d 2070MQ is still kicking in 2023.
@@jitterrypokery1526 It’s not really a ‘congrats’ moment tbh, I only mention it because people aren’t going to come out and say it often enough that their laptop battery didn’t bloat. And then there are enough Acer, MSI, Lenovo fanboys etc. to act like an echo chamber and repeat that on every forum/channel as if it’s a certainty. Plus there’s always r/spicypillows to show this happens to laptops from Acer, Dell, Apple, etc.
@@anarki_in5680 yeah your right, but ngl this kinda deters me from razer quite a bit after that whole 2020 battery fiasco At this point it's making me consider buying a macbook instead of a razer blade Especially with the new macbooks coming out this year

While the larger size and weight is fine in my box for a better screen, they better not be raising their prices again. They have competitors that offer the same if not better features for less. They’re gonna price themselves right out of the market at this rate.
I don't think the laptops being slightly heavier and thicker could be a problem if it fixed razer's extreme heat issues, I backed off buying a razer blade 17 because of the high temps which led to lower performance compared to other manufactures, If the extra weight and thickness solves it and gives it a competitive performance then it should be a welcomed change.

I don't mind laptops getting bigger, nor do I think it's a problem. There are already a plethora of small size options available, so having the rare option to get a big boy is welcome. The slim and small fad is exactly why Temps are garbage on most laptops, and lead them to having overheating issues, which shorten component life. I do agree that the prices are getting insane.
It's going to be shit, we don't have to wait for it, Microsoft hasn't made any adjustments for the way windows handles the scheduler on laptops nor has significantly made integration to using cores efficiently especially after intels new p core e core duo

Those new laptops gonna be expensive for a while I'd say get the RTX 3070ti model as it is more than capable of running the latest games in very high-ultra settings and as far as i understand i don't think u will see the GPU struggling with the games you mentioned anytime soon
There are so many good options this year that the prices for these laptops look insaneZ Lenovo, Acer, Asus, Msi have either similar or better laptops at a much lower cost. I don’t understand why Razer is keeping their costs high, it has only hurted them for some time now. I don’t believe in the higher quality thing that they are going, Msi and Lenovo laptops have high quality as well and the name Razer isn’t as strong as it used to be imo. I was really looking forward to them since I am on the market for a good laptop that can run me for the next 4 years but Razer is out of my wishlist completely.
I wonder if there is an actual difference between GPUs this year, I hope it isn’t like last where the 3080 is a 3070 with a 5% improvement. My question is, are you considering getting the 4060 - 4090 versions of the G14/M16/Blade 16/18 to understand the power limit differences? (As in 4 of each model)
It’s been mentioned quite often lately but I honestly don’t understand why would anyone need numpad on a gaming laptop. For me personally Not Including numpad is a huge plus from aesthetics and also from speaker’s space point of view.
the price is the only thing that will affect them cause even at the lowest specs it reaches almost 3000 dollars. Jarrod wanted to ask what is you favourite laptop brand from all of the ces 2023
The whole idea of a laptop is portability - if you need power you get desktop custom PC If they don't have good 13-14" or max 15" it's not really worth it
Given how much more power hungry and hotter the newer stuff becomes, in comparison, i´d say a lot of manufacturers run into problems. Either with power limit, or with horrid thermals (noise). Battery size might be a good way to cut some costs, at least on certain desktop replacement "laptops". And honestly those desktop replacement laptops are also not really having an issue with getting a bit bulkier. You don´t buy a top notch cpu + 4090 mobile to sit in a park and do some web browsing. That is what you buy a cheap as eff below 200 bucks laptop for that you could probably power with a hand crank without breaking a sweat. Prices will however be interesting, as we kinda got spoiled over the last years with great affordable laptops/desktop replacements while the actual desktop market was held hostage by scalpers and miner scum.
Really amazed at the core count laptops have. I'm still used to having 4 or 6 cores. Not sure what I would do with all those cores 0.o. As a programmer, 6 cores is still enough for me.
As a person running Gentoo, compiling the Android source into a ROM every week, and running other multi-core heavy tasks, the Blade 16 will be my next laptop for sure. Those 32 threads will blast through my current workload
Razerblade have always been known as one of the top premium laptop available. I think their prices are justifiable this year. You're getting a intel i9 13thGen. 40 series, a choice of the mini led dual display. 16:10 display frameless design. Better upgraded video camera. Its hard to find another laptop with these config along with their seamless sleek professional design. Of course you can find a cheaper laptop but it will lack the timelesss sleek design... and it will probably not have the dual display. To switch from 4k video editing mode to 1440p 240hz gaming mode. With that dual display alone... I'm all in on razer this year. It might be the perfect all in 1 powerhouse traveling laptop. I think its the overheating problem and their customer service.
$2700 for a Blade 16 with an i9, standard QHD+ display, and a 4060. If you want the mini-led panel as well as a beefier RTX card (4080 or 4090) you're looking at like $4000.
Jarrod... Please test the mini LED screen! We really want to know how it compares to the OLED screens in contrast. It's unique and most have people have never seen one in person. We need to know if it's worse paying razer prices for it!
Having previously owned a 2017 Razer Blade 15 and Stealth and dealt with the company on numerous occasions, I will never use another razer product until they have a new CEO.
The change from 15 and 17 inch to 16 and 18 inch makes sense to me. 16 inches is a much nicer size compared to 15 inch, but still not too big. Therefore there was no need for a slightly larger 17 inch, so those who need a portable battlestation 18 inches would be more appropriate. 14 inches is also a very nice ultra portable size, and is significantly smaller than 16 inch compared to 15 inch, making the difference clearer.
When I started looking at a new laptop in 2021, I was thinking about a Razer Blade or an Asus laptop. But that changed in 2022. I was deciding between a Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 7, Asus laptop ,or an MSI Raider laptop. I ended up getting the Lenovo one because it had the best price to performance ratio. Battery life can be 6-8 hours (with power tweaking and with the advanced BIOS unavailable).
Prices has been ridiculous for the recent generations of Blade, it’s a complete turn off. Otherwise, the upgrades are welcomed. I believe the Blade 14 will cover the market for old Blade 15 for whom priorities portability. And Blade 16 will catches up in terms of performances since the last few generations of TDP cap lock was making Blade 15 run like a vintage sports car.
Given all the insane laptops Lenovo and Asus keep putting out, it is crazy how Dell and Razer can still just sit on their hands and sh*t out nearly the exact same laptops every generation AND at higher prices LOL.
hi jarrod, how’d you know that blade 18’s screen will top at 500nits? on razer’s website they are claiming 500 nits on blade 16 QHD+ panel but not on blade 18, can you please explain? thanks!
The base configuration comes with the QHD display which tops out at 500 nits. It's only when you upgrade to the mini-led panel ($$$$) that you get the 1,100 nits.
I had a Razer Blade advanced edition 2019. Amazing feel on the laptop, felt like having a mac. Totally crippled hardware. That thing would do 2600 on CB20. It would throttle back to 45w no matter what you did. They released a patch update to the 2020 version to increase to 55w on the 10750h. They did not release it to the older generation. Sold it, and I will NEVER EVER buy another razer blade. Its ALWAYS CRIPPLED. They want low fan noise like apple instead of giving them the choice.
Literally bought the razer blade 4k 2022 rtx 3080ti and had problems with it throughout these 8 months, and the keyboard has finally stopped working today, in constant communication with razer and they keep saying they'll send out a pre paid envelope to receive the laptop and fix it or replace it (as I got the care for it anyway) and I've still been waiting for them to send one for months now
Go for Rog Strix G18. It's a best of both worlds. It has the new Rtx 4080 and Intel 13980HX for a very reasonable price $2400. Also the palm rest area doesn't get hot at all as claimed by a lot of people who reviewed. It has Numpad a big trackpad and overall the display is good enough. If you're after Mini LED then go for the Scar 16. It has rtx 4090 and costs $3600. I think paying $1000 just to get that premium build is a waste considering the chassis might heat faster and transfer it to your hands. The speakers on the scar are good enough but not as best as Razer though. But $1000 for just build quality, camera and speakers doesn't seem to be a good option. Btw if you are after Razer go for it but I think you might wanna save your hard earned money this way.
I hate laptops without numpads. Especially because unlike on a 60% standalone keyboard, you're not saving any space on the footprint. It's not like removing the numpad leaves more space between the edge of the machine and your mouse. If the screen size dictates the machine size, then you should fit a numpad in whenever possible. I think they see that gaming keyboards are trending towards TKL and 60%, but without understanding WHY they lack a numpad they assume people just dont want them. Looks like I'll be sticking with Lenovo and/or MSI until the end of time at this rate. They're the only ones that offer enough I/O and have the power cable coming out the back of the machine (power supplies coming out the side of a machine are another thing that irritates me).
Must. like. every. CES. video. Razer is one of those nice things that you see in the shop but then you look at the price. . . There's better options out there and this is not 2015 anymore where they dominated the market unfortunately, i hope they will realize that someday.
Razer 16 is interesting with doubled screen feature. But I guess it will throttle because of thin design. I believe Lenovo legion 7i pro is the best choose this year. I'm waiting for testing 😊
For me, Razer's edge was always build quality. Part of that is getting it to be as small as possible, but the recent "thinness" years have produced the unfortunate trade-off of heavy throttling. So, if we're being compensated for the larger size and the build quality isn't being otherwise compromised, fair enough.
Razer is a mess this year, they have just wiped out their whole laptop product set, and replaced it with bigger heavier versions but super expensive even for razer.
I think Intel is going to be winning in the laptop performance this year. I think AMD will be a great solution to smaller multipurpose machines because it has a better GPU on board for the highest end one and multi core is still great but Intel's laptops are gonna be insane and they're beating AMD at there own game with these performance and efficiency cores by just adding more of them. Even if the U series is 2/4 P core and 10 efficiency cores it's gonna be great all round performance with a decent TDP still
Im hoping to see AMD models, 4nm CPUs are rated 30hr video playback. Also 16 Pcore AMD will dominate intel with double the cache memory in gaming and productivity. at 1/3 the power it can deliver same performance.
I would love to upgrade my blade 14, especially because the 14" screen is pretty dim and feeling cramped. But, the price is getting higher and the size is getting bigger and with those intel CPUs, it is practically a desktop because you have to carry around that big brick everywhere. I think I will hang onto my 3070 a while longer.
Are any of these configs able to use some kind of pass-through charging? My machine already had pathetic battery life and needing the extra horse power being plugged-in just makes the problem worse. These machines needs a battery replacement every year at that rate
I have a Razer 17 , the keyboard is awful for the price. My Asus with rtx 3060 has a better keyboard than it. About the rest.. everything is very good.
I think, the main problem is transitioning to 16:10, if both increases in screen size didn't increase weight that would be more desirable. Also, a 14" would help I think too for older 15" models, going down AND 16:10, you're not losing nearly as much
I love my blade but Razers configs always annoyed me. Theyre just random and specific, why can you only get 2tb in the 4090 version? They should be more customizable with their specs and color options too.
Jarrod you have to realize Razer has embarrassed themselves by making previous designs too light and therefore hot. More weight comes from the vacuum chamber etc. I welcome it if it stops the machine from throttling down and not being able to be usable unless plugged in

I can’t believe the Blade 16 can get the max GPU wattage. That’s a HUGE contrast to prior Blade laptops. Also the resolution switch and bigger battery are welcome upgrades.
because the chassis is a lot thicker now. The blade 15 was .67" and the blade 16 is .87".
got the older early 2020 Blade 17 pro - 10875 - RTX 2080 super - 4K screen....might go for that new 18 inch 4090 version. Is it a stupid price for a laptop? yep....poss £4.5 K for the 4090 version....sure.But at my age , based on the fact you can't take it with you when you die ...fuck it, might as well enjoy it whilst you can !!!

Good to hear about the battery. I have the Blade 14, and I've change the battery 5 times due to swelling (2 times on warranty).
Oh wow.
Oof! My Blade 14 2021 model broke and I just got store credit for a 2022 Zephyrus G14.
How'd it break?
They still have a 15 inch laptop for 2023. Razer published a new ad for the new 15 with a 13th gen chip only a few weeks ago
Now that asus have upped the z13 flow I'm switching from my razer to that
At the end of the day, would you rather carry your heavy gaming PC around or your slightly heavy laptop with better performance and cooling? I think the latter, I love the slim look of Razer laptops but it's not worth the compromise.
your comment is wrong lol
Congrats on the no battery bloat, this is probably my biggest concern
@@jitterrypokery1526 It’s not really a ‘congrats’ moment tbh, I only mention it because people aren’t going to come out and say it often enough that their laptop battery didn’t bloat. Mostly it’s the (few) bad QC stories that make it online. And then there are enough Acer, MSI, Lenovo fanboys etc. to act like an echo chamber and repeat that on every forum/channel as if it’s a certainty.
Plus there’s always r/spicypillows to show this happens to laptops from Acer, Dell, Apple, etc.
@@anarki_in5680 yeah your right, but ngl this kinda deters me from razer quite a bit after that whole 2020 battery fiasco
At this point it's making me consider buying a macbook instead of a razer blade
Especially with the new macbooks coming out this year
@@jitterrypokery1526 What’s this battery fiasco of 2020 lol?
Also they aren’t exactly competitors, even though they have similar build quality you can game on one (Razer) but not the other (Apple). So it’s not really a choice between the two.
Very surprising to see Razer vacate the thin and light gaming segment to go head-to-head with the likes of the Legion Pro 7!
While the larger size and weight is fine in my box for a better screen, they better not be raising their prices again. They have competitors that offer the same if not better features for less. They’re gonna price themselves right out of the market at this rate.
Very strange omission to not have the RJ-45 in the Blade 16.
I don't think the laptops being slightly heavier and thicker could be a problem if it fixed razer's extreme heat issues, I backed off buying a razer blade 17 because of the high temps which led to lower performance compared to other manufactures, If the extra weight and thickness solves it and gives it a competitive performance then it should be a welcomed change.
what did you buy instead?

AMD need to sort out their issues asap, I would have loved to see an AMD Blade 16
Price is almost always the only problem for most of the laptops that doesn't sell well these days.
I little bit thicker but better cooling
The battery life on these is gonna be interesting, especially the 16. For the 18, having short battery life makes sense
Interesting as in it's going to be interesting to see how shit it's going to be.
It's going to be shit, we don't have to wait for it, Microsoft hasn't made any adjustments for the way windows handles the scheduler on laptops nor has significantly made integration to using cores efficiently especially after intels new p core e core duo
Have you shown what a hybrid UHD/FHD display looks like up-close?
No I haven't had one yet.
Is it worth waiting for 13gen and rtx40 laptops or just buy a laptop with an i7 12700, rtx3070ti and 32gb ram ? To play games like tarkov, warzone.
I’m too indecisive regarding this. Price whise are the new laptops going to be worth it ?
Thank you for your high quality videos.
Those new laptops gonna be expensive for a while
I'd say get the RTX 3070ti model as it is more than capable of running the latest games in very high-ultra settings and as far as i understand i don't think u will see the GPU struggling with the games you mentioned anytime soon
I have a Legion 5i with i7 12700H+RTX3070ti@140W and I get above 100 fps in Warzone 2.0 using QUALITY DLSS at 1440p.
I hoped that the 18 inch version would have a mini led display especially with the 16:10 display for 16:9 content
its not an asus
Why is every manufacturer all of a sudden doing 18” screens this year?
Because 18” 16:10 is barely bigger than 17.3 16:9, mostly just taller. And everyone wants to switch (back) over to 16:10.
(As in 4 of each model)
judging from the specs(cores, VRAM, etc), either go for the 4080/4090, or just stick with the 4060 because the 4070 doesn't offer much improvement.
@@bl4ckst0ne that seems to be the case but with efficiency improvements and further driver optimization. We might be surprised.

Acer nitro 5 - i5 11th gen (6 cores) rtx 3060(6gb vram) 16gb ram
Asus tuf gaming a15 - ryzen 7 4800h (8 cores) rtx 3050(4gb vram) 16gb ram
It’s been mentioned quite often lately but I honestly don’t understand why would anyone need numpad on a gaming laptop. For me personally Not Including numpad is a huge plus from aesthetics and also from speaker’s space point of view.
Because of applications like Blender
I think the Razer 18 looks terrible without a numpad. Like the keyboard deck looks hilarious with that tiny keyboard.
You clearly don't do office work on a laptop, Excel, word processing, etc. A numpad is essential for quick entry.
@@GetPsyched6 Seriously an 18" machine looks comical with no numpad, all that wasted space for nothing.
The keyboard for the Razer 18 is an inexcusable waste of space. Alienware M18 looks like the better buy.
$2600 for a 4060 is crazy…
I can buy a 4080m from MSI,ASUS, for that price.
Guess the price of the 4060 in Norway.. It's $3900 🫡🤣
the price is the only thing that will affect them cause even at the lowest specs it reaches almost 3000 dollars. Jarrod wanted to ask what is you favourite laptop brand from all of the ces 2023
Asus
Prices are outrageous.
I currently run 2021 Blade 14. Thought about changing to 15" but 2.5 kg is too bulky. Will be waiting news on the new Blade 14.
The whole idea of a laptop is portability - if you need power you get desktop custom PC
If they don't have good 13-14" or max 15" it's not really worth it
Given how much more power hungry and hotter the newer stuff becomes, in comparison, i´d say a lot of manufacturers run into problems.
Best time to buy last year's laptop.
Jarrod a15 6800h vs f15 i7 12th gen
Which is better??
I'll be paying 20% extra for intel
Go AMD
Really amazed at the core count laptops have. I'm still used to having 4 or 6 cores. Not sure what I would do with all those cores 0.o. As a programmer, 6 cores is still enough for me.
As a person running Gentoo, compiling the Android source into a ROM every week, and running other multi-core heavy tasks, the Blade 16 will be my next laptop for sure. Those 32 threads will blast through my current workload
Agreed. Price and weight will be a big concern
How long until you can test these units? Also other gaming laptops like ROG and Alienware?
Not sure yet when I'll be receiving these
Jarrod... Please test the mini LED screen! We really want to know how it compares to the OLED screens in contrast. It's unique and most have people have never seen one in person. We need to know if it's worse paying razer prices for it!
Nice video. Thank you. Love how you noted right off the bat how the weights for the new laptops have increased... 🙂
Hey Jarrod, please make a comparison between Hp pavillion gaming Ryzen 5 5600H and Acer Nitro 5 R5 5600H. Are these viable options in 2023?
Having previously owned a 2017 Razer Blade 15 and Stealth and dealt with the company on numerous occasions, I will never use another razer product until they have a new CEO.
Bit disappointed no oled option, I really could care less about the dual panel type, I would settle for a 16:10 oled 1440p panel at 165 hz
Disappointed of the 18 for not having a 4k 144h option
Any gaming laptop that does not let you limit charge while plugged in is a skip for me.
LG TVs had 120hz 1080p 60hz 2160p mode for years, but it's nice to see them in laptops where it makes much more sense.
$2600 Hell No for 4060
The change from 15 and 17 inch to 16 and 18 inch makes sense to me.
Imagine creating an 18 inch laptop without a number pad
No UHD 4K on the 18" Blade. Why?
Given all the insane laptops Lenovo and Asus keep putting out, it is crazy how Dell and Razer can still just sit on their hands and sh*t out nearly the exact same laptops every generation AND at higher prices LOL.
Let's compare the new MSI GE 68 HX vs MSI GE 67 HX, 16 inch vs 15 inch OLED, TGP seems lower in the GE 68 HX
hi jarrod, how’d you know that blade 18’s screen will top at 500nits? on razer’s website they are claiming 500 nits on blade 16 QHD+ panel but not on blade 18, can you please explain? thanks!
16" mini led dual mode (120hz +240hz) display top at 1,000nits.
The base configuration comes with the QHD display which tops out at 500 nits. It's only when you upgrade to the mini-led panel ($$$$) that you get the 1,100 nits.
Unless they fixed the quality control it doesn't matter how good they look or perform.
Literally bought the razer blade 4k 2022 rtx 3080ti and had problems with it throughout these 8 months, and the keyboard has finally stopped working today, in constant communication with razer and they keep saying they'll send out a pre paid envelope to receive the laptop and fix it or replace it (as I got the care for it anyway) and I've still been waiting for them to send one for months now
I love 14" laptops, 15 is okayish but anything over 15.5" becomes too large, just put a 16:10 screen in a 14.5" laptop and you'll get crisper images
I’m not a guy who had a lot of money, but I’m saving from months ago for the Blade 17. Would u advice me to get a 16 or 18??
So, if we're being compensated for the larger size and the build quality isn't being otherwise compromised, fair enough.
is it the bigest screen gaming laptop or are there any biger?
There are a few 18" offerings this year. You can check them out in my other CES coverage: ruclips.net/p/PLFBbwFM8jIbMIiSz2hPYgHQYHKEJQd3BV
They made it larger as there are limitations of keeping it thiner as high specs are used need more cooling
Razer is a mess this year, they have just wiped out their whole laptop product set, and replaced it with bigger heavier versions but super expensive even for razer.
too bad blade 18 don't have 4K 120hz option
With winter coming I am interested in a 3,000$ space heater 😂
About the rest.. everything is very good.

razor is the new TDR champion with such weight & tdp
the return of 18" displays from all manufacturers were a surprise for me
I think, the main problem is transitioning to 16:10, if both increases in screen size didn't increase weight that would be more desirable. Also, a 14" would help I think too for older 15" models, going down AND 16:10, you're not losing nearly as much
Just when laptops having 16in 16:10 screens on a 15in chassis were becoming common in 2022, in 2023, 18in laptops being common seems crazy.
Disappointing year for laptop many models are downgraded version of the 2022 model like legion and razer rip
So there won't be a Blade 14 this year?
likely a mid year refresh
Why no OLED??
I love my blade but Razers configs always annoyed me. Theyre just random and specific, why can you only get 2tb in the 4090 version? They should be more customizable with their specs and color options too.
I’m extremely disappointed that Razer dropped OLED screen option 😑
The 18 will have the same heating up problem as last generation models
...the price?
Jarrod you have to realize Razer has embarrassed themselves by making previous designs too light and therefore hot. More weight comes from the vacuum chamber etc. I welcome it if it stops the machine from throttling down and not being able to be usable unless plugged in
