Disclosure: Purchases made through store links above may provide some compensation to Jarrod'sTech.
A store here in Denmark has mistakenly put two of the 4070 msi laptops up on their website, as if they're for sale already(they're still there). The "MSI Vector GP77 17.3" RTX 4070" costs $3437 and the "MSI Stealth 17 Studio 17.3" RTX 4070" costs $4200. The prices are truly getting insane
That made my eye hurt. Its insanely expensive.
Wow! Those prices are out of touch given global recession. Oh well, glad I don’t game anymore, so no need to get the most expensive hardware
really? 😂 Should be a mistake, there's no way pay 3500$ for a gp77 4070
What? If XMG has theyr RTX 4090 Laptop for 3.800€ , and the RTX 4080 for 3.200€, how is posible RTX 4070 for 4.200??
I think it was an error , otherwise it makes no sense!

Thanks Jarrod. More exciting reviews and tests are on the way. Can't wait for companies to start shipping this year's laptops asap.
Can't wait for full review. Good work jarrod, waiting for your another video.
Jarrod, the rhythm and consistency of your videos is soothing! I love your videos. Did you note that at time index 0:32 of this video the task manager window was showing speed of 0.75ghz? Why does that happen with this overpowered of laptop? It does so on my 12950HX Lenevo P16 gen1. Can get really slow sometimes even if I switch power mode to performance. it would be great if you can review that laptop.
Thanks for the overview! When can we expect reviews with the New AMD gen 4 processors?
Love your videos and how many important details you emphasize. Also love your t-shirts, In Flames we trust!
Thanks for the review. Do you thinks there’s a powerful enough power bank to be able to plug-in a laptop to game and that doesn’t damage the laptop battery?
Thanks for the review. I am considering the Titan but as a workstation. High-capacity memory expandability and three HD docks are quite enticing.
When are these things coming out? And does the GE68 come out at the same time as the GE 78? The 68 also has a numpad right?
would appreciate your opinion on Mini-LED displays in gaming laptops
Would you recommend a RAm upgrade for Lenovo Legion 5 Pro Gen 7 and if yes which one?
Hey jarrod, i wanted to now what do you think of the Gigabyte g5 KD, With the 3060. I saw that you have never talked about this PC and i was Just curious 'cause im thinking about buying a 800/900 euros laptop. Thanks for all of your videos from Italy!
Hi Jarod thanks for your content I love what you do.
What do you know when it's this laptop will be released
Sincerely
Jarrod when is the Amd Legion vs Intel video coming out??I want to see how much difference of battery life it makes
Hello Jared, i was looking through your reviews for fan noise and had a question, whats the ambient noise level?(with laptop turned off). And how far away the mic is?
Thanks for the awesome review! These two are really powerful but how much gonna be!? GE usually cheaper than GT!? Is that right?
Where do you predict the 4090 will rank to the 3090ti for desktops?
Damn that rgb bar makes the GE78 look gaudy. I don't mind the looks of GT77, pretty cool that it has 128gb support for ddr5
Always proud and Excited for your reviwes Jerrod😍
Jarrod?
@@HanmaHeiro Jerry
Do they both overheat due to higher than advertised TDP, like all the other MSI offerings?
Hello there, I've watched many of your videos thanks for your content, do you mind telling me what laptop would you buy for around $900 for light gaming and coding, I'm ready to pull the trigger but I'm just afraid about the quality control issues on laptops, I also can use your affiliate link to buy it. Thanks!
Thanks for the videos Jarrod! I can’t wait for the Asus Scar review!
Now that's some great change in ports of the raider, the last one dosen't support type-c charging.
Nice to be able to easily charge it while not using it, or for light work / video, or even as a passenger in a car from a 12v to high volt PD.
@@RW1LD yeah its a good thing they added it this year, the legion lineup and razer got it years ago.
USB C can only deliver 240W. This laptop can draw 250W+
@TV "only" lol... if you're not gaming on it you don't need a 300w brick.
The GE78 looks like it is sort of midway or carnival inspired design. Just check out the Vegas style lights
To me it’s gonna all go down to price, weight and overall size but especially which cpu offers the best performance at lower wattage like 35-55W last last gen I went 5800H/RTX3080 because it was smaller, lighter, cheaper and the 5800H was more efficient and performed better at low power than the Intel cpu giving the gpu full power without sacrificing much
I think screen sizes should get larger OR have them removeable for you to pic your size you want,so you could have say 15" for office work then get home and change it to a much larger size say 20".17" is not large enough really as I have a 17" laptop and putting it into high res the fonts have to be changed too which does not help.
lol i just refreshed to see if there was a new video ! LETS GO !
Jarrod, please do a "Most quiet among powerful laptops" competition!
Yeah, 24 cores + RTX 4090 is cool and all, but does it sound like a jet engine under full load?
Worse than that
I sometimes wonder if it's worth jotting down all the info from his record to publish
has any gaming laptop ever been quiet? why would that be something we need to talk about if noise is obviously inherent in laptops? it's like saying do a most portable desktop setup... just stop it
@@fresh_vertices Yes, gaming laptops can and will be quiet if they have good cooling. That also applies to regular laptops. I have a laptop with a Ryzen 7 6800H without a dGPU (because the iGPU is already faster than GTX 1050 Ti for laptops), and for its small chassis, it has a very good cooling system which runs pretty quiet even in the most demanding games with an increased 50W TDP, which doesn't actually do anything as games usually need just 40-45W. And when I applied PTM7950 on the APU, I got 5C less temperatures compared to a brand new factory paste, which was already good, and 7C less with a combined CPU+iGPU workload.
The way to reduce the fan noise is to use PTM7950 and good liquid thermal pads, and to also use a laptop cooling pad and/or reduce the TDP on CPU and GPU by around 5W to get them under 80C. PTM7950 in particular makes the heat transfer from CPU/GPU die onto the heatsink much better, and when the heatsink is hotter than with a stock paste, the fans do not need to work as hard to keep the CPU cool and to dump the heat from the heatsinks.
@@one_step_sideways yeah I also have a gaming laptop and use a vacuum cooler and even at 75-80 degrees will still make some noise. Few fans, blowing air through small vents will always make some noise and all your cooling pads and tweaks won't get rid of that.
Hey Jarrod , I was trying to undervolt my Asus Scar Strix SE but the laptop crushed many times so I decided to give up.
Maybe can you help me and tell me the exact amount of mv I need to change .
Tried to lower the Cpu core , cpu cache E and cpu cache P via thorttlestop but it didn’t went well
I’m about to pull the trigger on the GE78 but I’m also considering the Asus Strix Scar 16. Anyone got any tips. I can’t decide and as they are both about 4k machines it’s kind of a big decision
Asus scar 16 vs msi ge78 vs lenovo legion 9i which one is better to buy?? Thnx for your answer
Now that these laptops essentially have desktop CPUs at the highest end, and 175W+ powered GPUs, I am more interested to see how each manufacturer handles cooling, thermals, frequency boosts, and power draw. Pretty much how much performance they can get from these parts.
Watching an LTT video on the Clevo (XMG) PE60, they mentioned fan noise "pitch" that is not mind numbingly annoying. While they have design targets, I feel that this gen they'll go above and beyond to cool these, and that'll come at the cost of a jet fan noise. In the fan noise test while having measurable data of "db" on noise, I'd like to hear your thoughts on whether or not it's tolerable.
The Raptor Lake-HX CPUs are literally the Desktop Raptor Lake-S with some tighter power limits.
@@pedroalbuquerquebs Haha, yes, that is what I mean by "essentially have desktop CPUs at the highest end". Same thing with AMD's Dragon Range CPUs.
they handle it by making the chassis thicker
@@NootNoot. Exactly. I think that there previous generation in which this almost happened (very similar CPUs for high-end mobile and desktop), but this is probably the first one where they are probably coming from the same assembly line with a different label (I'm oversimplifying of course).
@@bl4ckst0ne And overall bigger. I know that the main reason that thew new trend is replacing 16:9 screns by 16:10, but the 17" laptops are being replaced by 18", and the 15" are being replaced by 16".
I think that the 14" laptops will mostly use Raptor Lake-H CPUs but previously they would get the same CPUs as the 15" laptops.
Similarly, the GS66 gets replaced by the Stealth 16 Studio with a Raptor Lake-H, whereas previously the GE66 and GS66 both used Alder Lake-H CPUs.
These laptops are larger in terms of area, and slightly thicker and heavier than the ones they are replacing. This allows a bit more airflow to cool these beasts. But they should still have trouble keeping them from throttling.
I was hoping the gt 77 titan would have 4 nvme ssd slots with 4 fans and 11 heat pipes, but at least it has a 4k 120 hz mini led display that I been waiting for compared to measly displays with 250 nits and 450 nits that are too dim and finally 1,000 nits that should have been a standard for every laptop. On my Dell oled laptop, with sdr the colors pop, more saturated, and way brighter compared to hdr since hdr looks too bland, too dim looking and I was hoping that hdr would make the display brighter with all the colors more saturated that pop but it was a let down compared to sdr. I even had power savings off, night light off, manual brightness 100 percent and autobrightness turned off.
Hi Jarrod, on the GE78, which ports bypass the integrated graphics? Thank you!
Hey Jarrod, tuf with Ryzen 7 + 3050ti or nitro with Ryzen 5 +3060 ??
does this laptop have g-sync? please tell me, is the keyboard in this laptop mechanical or the same as in scar18?
Is there any difference in the undervolted, overclocked performance? Is the 128gb ram laptop also able to reach 5600mhz on both 4 ram sticks?

I have a question for the Titan.. Does it come with g-sync?
Hello Jarrod,

Jarrod can you confirm the changes in GE78 bottom panel compared to GE77?
Waiting for scar 18 SE.. that laptop would certainly be a beast..
Looking forward to the GE78HX review. Just ordered mine from Costco.
Looks good! what do you think of the Gigabyte AORUS 17H with 4080 and i7 13700H Jarrod? will the 13700H hold back the 4080? it's so much cheaper than the competition! is it worth the risk?
Hey, I was looking for a good laptop with a 144hz screen, 16gb of ram, a good processor and a graphics card that can run newer games at high settings. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Starting to feel a peasant with my GE66 with 12700H + 3070 Ti. Will they always put 13900HX and up in the GE68/GE78, or will they make some versions with the 13700HX or 13850HX. I say this, because the 13900HX and up, are all i9 and pricier than the 12700H that they used on many models last year. Even the GE67 came with 12800HX, which is an i7 (not an i9) and the listing price is comparable to that of the 13850HX/13700HX.
Very cool but just wondering why the titan 2023 model have only 3 storage slots compared to 4 storage slots in titan 2022 model ?
Its 5:40am here in south america... I NEED TO WATCH IT!!!
I have been using this product for more than 10 years, but the problem in particular has not been fixed, it is common for me to encounter hinge problems, so in 2022 I switch to the Legion brand. hopefully in the future they solve this problem
Fwiw, I bought a legion 7i in July 2021 and have been using it mostly as a dtr, open-close the screen 3-4 times a week. No shrieking, bulges, or anything resembling an abnormality about the hinges so far.
I have been using MSI GE66 RAIDER 2020 model since the last two years. I haven't faced any issue with my laptop. And no compromise in performance too. At least for the next 6 to 7 years, it is my personal computer.
Do all MSI's have weird hinge problems? Cause I broke my MSI laptop due to it sabotaging its own hinges and I've since moved over to a different brand. The GE78 looks really cool with that hinge design and speaker setup but if it really still is a problem then that's disappointing.

Isn't the 13980HX or whatever still under embargo? Can he reveal benchmarks? This is the first I'm seeing this
Advanced Optimus? G-Sync? Razer and Asus Rog offer both, I don't think MSI offers either. At this price point I would expect all, so for me these are non-starters.
Any update in this?
This year I'm ready to exchange my MSI GS75 9SG for a new laptop with top intel CPU and GPU. I'm looking for a portable laptop for work (game dev) and gaming. So my candidates are Legion 7i Pro, MSI Rider GE78, Razor Blade 16. With my MSI I had a problem with the RGB keyboard (replaced the keyboard unit when some key lights started glitching). So what Is the most exciting model in your opinion? And WHY? The budget does not matter.
Lenovo Legion is the best!
Pls review the 2023 Rog Strix G series. I'm very much looking forward to it.

I don't have one for the Raider yet.
It still seems they don't do much in the way of cooling... just sticking with heat pipes and extra fans.
I would say Eluktronics Mech 17 with it’s separate cooler is probably still the best overall laptop out there so far
I can't wait for the comparison between the new titan and the new strix scar 18...
Please review the MSI Raider GE78.
ty - i have the GE78 arriving Thursday as an upgrade to the GE76 with a 3060gpu.. I'm sure it will be nice . ty for the review
how is it
it was good for 1 or 2 monitors great for that, very powerful laptop.. I do multiboxing gaming on all sorts of stuff on bigger screens - lag fest - so it sucked for that. Gave up and got a Corsair Vengeance PC for what I need at least - $$$ RTX 4090 but it is 500-1000 more than that expensive laptop but holy moly it is a smoker!! the laptop is fast for a laptop - if you have 1 or 2 smaller displays , you are good.. for generic displays like spreadsheets or business it could easily drive 4 items as it comes.. it was a great laptop but just not good for me, and that's about it.@@John-us6cg
These seem genuinely good.
Msi already posted the prices for the new Raider series now I'm confused about what to do, currently the "old raider with 12th gen intel and RTX 3080ti is on sale for 2,399, and the new raider with 13th gen intel and RTX 4060 it's 2,299, should I wait for the 4060 or get the 3080ti???
If you are wondering raider...
4070 2,699
4080 3,599
4090 3,999
Everything is posted on the official MSI US store....kind of disappointed I was hoping that the prices were going to be lower since they supposed be more power efficient....
The ONLY reason why im considering the GE78 is because where i live the breakers are already being pushed passed their limits.
I currently have a 11800H / 3060 (130W)

@@HanmaHeiro The office?
@@teddym2808 I meant the price. Sorry I used swipe to text
@@HanmaHeiro Yes I am willing to spend for the absolute top this year.. The reason is that chips are so fast now that something can realistically last for 5 years now. I mean I truly believe mobile 4090 will be able to play games in 5 years still, and 13950HX will be able to do any task for many years to come. I am going from 3070 mobile and 11800h so it will be a big jump, so might as well go all the way. But there's, as far as I am concerned, must haves for that kind of money, and G-Sync is one of them. As you can see, more and more brands are going back to it, as the demand is there, but MSI are too stubborn to pay the license fee to enable it in bios.
In a laptop, G-Sync works differently to a monitor with a dedicated chip. It is using typical VESA standard VRR and the only difference is that it uses Nvidia's proprietary driver to *control* the way that in built VRR works. But that driver is very special because it works with Vulkan, Opengl and Direct X AND in windowed or full screen mode, on any game.
it also has LFC or low framerate compensation so it works at any frame rate.
MSI are using VRR screens but refuse to enable advanced optimus/g-sync and it's purely because they don't want to pay the licensing fee to Nvidia. But IMO that is ridiculous for top of the range laptops to be such tight asses. The screens they use are literally ready with one bios update to be 100% g-sync compatible and they won't do it, for years now. So, in turn, for years now, they have lost my business.
I play a ton of retro emulation and without g-sync it's a much inferior experience. You can't properly emulate old games where they have an odd FPS that is tied to screen refresh rate. The only way to do it is with g-sync/freesync. Then of course there's the issue of tearing in modern games.. You can often completely disable v-sync with a g-sync screen and have no tearing and ultra low input latency. Once you use it you can't go back.
Now if the mux switch is not on, and the GPU is going through the intel driver, MSI laptops do support adaptive sync. But you lose performance and it ONLY works with Direct X 11 and 12 apps and usually only in full screen. Therefore it's the most inferior option of the lot between that and freesync and g-sync. Hence I just don't understand MSI. Why would any customer NOT want advanced optimus where you just change the GPU on the fly in real time without a reboot? Every laptop that is doing it is advertising it, so it's clear that MSI are saying FU to its customers once again and it's purely because of the license fee.
Oh well. So disappointing for me anyway.
@@teddym2808 thanks for the reply. I'll read through the entire thing later. You're amazing
