This tutorial is better detailed than the one from PreSonus. Plus the PreSonus one (on RUclips) assumes the viewer was intimately familiar with the original, and leaves out critical information. Sweetwater is a great resource on several levels.
The best controller for Cubase 12 - after the production of the Steinberg CC121 has ceased - for me is the PreSonus FaderPort V2 (one fader) together with the new version (23.08.2023) of the midi remote script written by Werner Mairegger with the extensions written by Christian Oestmann. The new version of this script can be found in the Cubase Steinberg Forum under the topic "PreSonus FaderPort 2 (2018) midi remote script". Actually, the script can do more than what the CC121 was able to do, because so far 90 functions have been realized with the script: 27 functions for each track/channel, 19 functions for transport, 23 functions for navigation and editing and 21 other functions. And all this I get for only about 170 Euros for the Controller which is compact and very ergonomic. :-)
Can’t believe how many functions/ features the singe Faderport has...Mk2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I missed these features after purchasing the StudioLive 32 S...the Desk does not have as much on the function keys. Great video, great product.
Very comprehensive video, congrats! I have a question andI hope you can solve it. I use Logic Pro X as my DAW and I bought the Presonus Faderport 2 mainly for automation purposes. Now, every time I want to use it to write my Expression (or other features either on 'region' or 'track') it switches automatically to 'Volume' the moment I merely touch the fader. Is that my setup problem? Thanks.
What buttons do you press to change modes?????????? Info is hard to come by on Presonus web page and in Reaper and RUclips sites. I'm regretting this purchase!
Hello, Russell! I dug through the manual a little bit, and my findings were somewhat inconclusive. You can configure this in a lot of different ways with MIDI, but the only thing specifically mentioned is pitch bend on page 42: pae-web.presonusmusic.com/downloads/products/pdf/FaderPort_OwnersManual_V2_EN_30122019.pdf You might be able to set a parameter in a software instrument via MIDI learn, and messing with the fader, but without trying it myself I'm not sure. Thanks for the interest! Kevin Spunde, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1732, Kevin_Spunde@Sweetwater.com
Just hooked up my new Faderport with Studio One Pro. When I press solo it doesn't follow the scroll wheel from channel to channel, as it does in this video at 2:04. Does anyone know why, or is there a trick to this?
Hi, Sweetwater. I need your help!! I work in Studio One 5 and the NI Kontakt sampler with orchestral libraries from Spitfire, Cinematic Studio and VST synthesizers of orchestral instruments from SWAM. To work, I need to control the parameters of dynamic automation (Volume, Expression, Vibrato, etc.) during the live (performance) of a musical part. I am considering buying a Presonus Faderport 8, because it is equipped with motorized faders. This is what is required in my work. I didn't find an answer to my question on the forum of the Presonus website. Please help me. For convenience, I will state my questions on the points: 1. Is it possible to link Presonus Classic faders (Faderport 8) to the volume, expression, vibrato parameters in each NI Kontakt orchestral library, so that they are constantly stored in memory for constant use? 2. I will be glad if item 1 is possible! You could have suggested how to configure this in Studio One:) 3. If points 1 and 2 are possible, will the Faderport 8 motorized feeders automatically connect to the already recorded dynamic automation settings? Thank you in advance! I really hope for your help!!!
Hello Mitch, I need to be able to hang this in my vocal booth, does this come with 10 foot usb cable? Or will it work with a generic 10 foot cable I buy?
Hey, Bobby! Thanks for reaching out! If I recall, the cable it comes with is 5 or 6 feet. However, any appropriate USB-A to USB-B cable at 10 or 15 feet would work just fine. Mickey Cushing, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 3024, Mickey_Cushing@Sweetwater.com
Hello, I want to buy the fader of this type to work with my Studio One 4 Pro that I just acquired, but I find that in the PRE SONUS page there are two similar models, one is the one that is promoted in this video and the other one seems previous. This equipment is the previous update or have different characteristics? Could you recommend me which one to buy? Thank you!
Hello, Luiz. The current model is the Faderport V2. The previous version is discontinued, so that makes your choice easy. For lack of a better description, it is newer with improvements. It replaces the previous version. Thank you for your interest, Chris Kress, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1757, chris_kress@sweetwater.com
hey i just bought the faderport and my primary DAW is ableton. im having trouble writing automation for anything except volume, is that even possible? every time I have what I would like to automate selected then hit record the fader automatically reverts back to volume. I would like to use the fader to automate other things than volume. but great review thank you!
Looks handy, but I swear I can do everything it does with the keyboard and mouse FASTER. The only thing that makes it desirable for me would be the fader for automation, but ever since pre-insert/fader Clip Gain showed up in Tools I never use automation anymore. It looks awesome though, dammit makes me wanna try it out lol
I agree, same here, its faster with the mouse, and I can assign any knob on my midi keyboard for automation. does look nice however, but pointless really!
You are just kidding yourself for the sake of it! There are a multitude of different scenarios where it speeds up the workflow! Even something as simple as using the Faderport transport controls whilst working with plugins with mouse etc is a time saver. what's more, when you place one of these adjacent to a Roland TD drum kit or perhaps a synth, it makes a fantastic remote control device for stopping starting record etc without having to get up and go back to the DAW. So you are assuming this will always be placed within reach of the DAW itself, whereas there are many other different places it can sit within the studio. Yes, there is a remote option available for tablets, but a tablet would cost more than the Faderport to start with, and I would argue it's a far more intuitive device to use.
Is there any problem with extending the USB connection to the host? If I get this, it's going to be located about 15-20' away from my DAW and the included 6' cable would therefore not be long enough. I'd need to use an active repeater.
Hi, thanks for your interest! I wouldn't recommend using a repeater for anything carrying audio data, but since the Faderport is just sending MIDI control data, I wouldn't foresee any issues. Feel free to contact me directly with any further questions, and thanks again! Caleb Lowrey, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1620, caleb_lowrey@sweetwater.com
I need to know if it's true that with last firmware update it's possible to configure the 10mm fader as a midi controller, i.e. assign it a midi controller like CC1, CC11, and all the others, to make it work as a modwheel or as expression, etc. I work with Cubase 10.5 Pro on Windows10. Thanks.
Hey there! Thanks for reaching out! The Presonus Faderort V2 can be bus powered, but with limitations. The fader itself needs power from the wall outlet to be motorized. I hope this helps! Mickey Cushing, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800 )222-4700 ext. 3024, Mickey_Cushing@Sweetwater.com
Hi, Jeremiah! The Faderport won't default to those particular settings, but you could most likely program it do that specific action within the software. Let us know if you have any questions! Maryann Shirley, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1774

Hey there! No, these controllers do not come with a footswitch, but you are able to run a 3rd party footswitch with the unit. You can use this with quite a few other DAWs. As long as the DAW you’re using has Mackie Control Universal, then this will work just fine. Feel free to reach out with any other questions! I then spoke to a tech a steinberg and that was news to them so I’m waiting to hear back from him on from them . If your using presonus I’m guessing it will work out of the box any other software and it’s a 50/50 it will work buyer beware.! :(
This looks great! It would really make my workflow go a little bit faster. I just need to know if it would work this well on Reaper, and if I can use it to alter any parameter of any plugin with the knob and the fader separetly. Or, if there is a bigger version of this, with maybe 4 or 5 faders.
This new version seems designed more for PreSonus own software Studio One and is very limited (Mackie control only) for other DAW's. They should of designed it so you can program each button personally like you can with NI Maschine midi control. The motorized fader is the only advantage here and the rest is confusing and are labeled strange for other DAW's.
Thanks for reaching out! You can map any VST parameter to the FaderPort, so that should work just fine. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any other questions! Connor Smith, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1793, connor_smith@sweetwater.com
