Featured in TIR Episode 330: R&B singer Shirley Jones, who along with sisters Brenda and Valorie comprised the fabulous Jones Girls. Beginning in 1979, the trio recorded three straight albums that rose to the R&B Top 25 and sent five songs into the Top 25. Those included “You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else,” “I Just Love the Man” and “Nights Over Egypt.”
The Jones Girls also performed and recorded with Lou Rawls, Teddy Pendergrass, Aretha, Linda Clifford and Diana Ross. Striking out on her own in 1986, Shirley’s solo debut, Always in the Mood, reached No. 8 on the R&B albums chart and included the No. 1 ballad hit, “Do You Get Enough Love.” Since then she has continued to tour and release new music, upholding the Jones Girls’ wonderful legacy.
To that end, her new album, Reflections: In Loving Memory, commemorates the 45th anniversary of the sisters’ debut album.

Great interview!! I got to see The Jones Girls in Jamaica when I was about 11 in Jamaica. They opened for Peter Tosh. Amazing experience!! 💜💜💜
Scott thumbs up for another great interview. I was hoping she would mention the Sweethearts of Sigma as they showed up on some of the Jones Girls tracks. Those pluckin basslines on the At Peace With Woman album were ace!! You mentioned the girls and the Curtom connection as they sang bkgds on some Linda Cliffords tracks. The Teddy track that Shirley sang on that was originally the Liquid Gold(One Of Us Fell In Love) group out of England? The lead singer for that group was Ellie Hope who had a nice boogie track in the mid 80's called Lucky. I remember the Soul Train episode when Shirley sang(well lip synched)Do You Get Enough Love. The dancers were into it hollerin as Don came up to do the interview. Very well received.
