- Featured in TRUTH IN RHYTHM Episode 340: Singer, bassist, composer and producer Joyce “Fenderella” Irby, best known as a core member of Klymaxx - the successful and trailblazing all-female funk, R&B and pop band. The group notched seven Top 20 R&B hits between 1984 and 1990 that included the dancefloor jams “The Men All Pause” and “Meeting in the Ladies Room,” and the ballads “I Miss You” and “I’d Still Say Yes.”
Launching her solo career in 1989, she scored the hit, “Mr. DJ,” featuring rapper Doug E. Fresh. In 2022, she released her acclaimed autobiography, “I’d Still Say Yes,” subtitled “A Dreamer’s Account of Surviving the Entertainment Business.” She continues to perform as Klymaxx w/Joyce “Fenderella” Irby and is recording new music with The Femme Mafia.

Such a great, in-depth interview, Scott! It’s probably in my top 3 faves from interviews over the last decade+. Ms. Irby has been giving us so much LOVE because she doesn’t like doing VISUAL INTERVIEWS. I’m proud of her for many things but certainly for stepping outside of her comfort zone. 💜👏🏽🙏🏽👑

Question, if you are a beginner, writing songs, how do you keep someone you show and allow to listen to your songs, from stealing them? Like if you go to a record company or even let a supposed friend listen to songs you wrote. I've heard stories about people sending record companies their song and the company will record it as if it were their own.
