Excellent interview. Thank you Brenda. Since I first purchased the Vanity 6 album, I have always considered you the best singer of the group.

Oh, how I miss Prince. I have so much sorrow. It is so not right that he is not here. The most tragic loss in music

Brenda, thank you for sharing your memories with us. Your contributions to Prince's legacy are greatly appreciated. As a somewhat lonely teenager, you guys gave me a place to escape to - a safe, creative space where I found my individuality. Thank you.

dug the interview and Brenda was to Prince as Teena Marie was to Rick James or Deborah Harry to Blondie, her voice and styling was cool, could and should have had a bigger solo career in a Pat benetar kind of way meets Kim Carnes, Bonnie Tyler, Stevie Nicks

(In My Opinion) (All 3 Were Sexy) Brenda:Sultry Seductive Voice - Susan:Innocently Seductive Appeal - Vanity:Alluring Seductive Presence = Vanity 6

    Very interesting, thanks!
She must have her timeline mixed up, though, because Stand Back hadn't wasn't recorded until February 1983 (even as a demo) 🙂

Stevie Nicks has commented she wrote "Stand back" after hearing "Little red corvette" on the radio, getting inspired.....

You do great work. Since the stories are starting to loop and become saturated with common knowledge, would it be worth it to do deep dives into certain songs and have some guest re-appear. Essentially, cover maybe an album and select 3 - 5 songs and have Prince's proteges just nerd out. You go there at times at a high level yet because the interviews are so expansive, it rarely gets covered in detail. There are still a lot of stores - just need to go deeper into the cracks -- at least that's my humble take.

Good thought, because that's the sort of stuff I would like to know too.

Back then in Holland....after Human League and Kid Creole's Coconuts paved the way Vanity 6 was a smash!
    Nasty girl: no.5 !!! (dec.82)
    1999: no.13 (jan.83)
    Stand back: no.23 (july 83)
Sex shooter: no. 14 (sept. 84)
Manic monday: no. 24 (feb. 86)
Even the Vanity album sold more than any Prince album until "Purple"

@jasfan8247 you’re INSANE…the albums “Prince” and “Controversy” both went platinum, and “1999” was 4x platinum. Vanity 6’s album was certified gold.

@@jimy0803Yes, but my comment was about charting of the single-versions in Holland. "Nasty girl" broke top 5 (mainstream charts) in Europe first around the world and at that moment they even sold more albums here than Prince himself, how amazing!

I love Brenda, but I never realized that she can be quite longwinded! In part 1, 16 minutes in and only 2 questions were answered! Nevertheless, good job!
