Man I picked up a SLX XT last year to try out... I was curious on how it would hold up long term but didn't want to wait a couple years to see so I filled the one I got up with 60lb braid and put it on a 7'6" XH/XF rod and hit the grass mats on Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn. It's still working just like it was right out the box... I was shocked because I've broke every budget reel I've ever bought inside a single summer punching mats and I've tried them all over the years. My SLX has held up better then a lot of my reels in that $150ish price range. So if they upgraded the XT version for the same price it's a no brainer they're well worth the money. I just wish they made a SLX XT in the 200 and 300 series because I like keeping extra reels in the boat to have different size line on and in different gear ratios and it's hard to buy Curados and Curado M's as spears...
Great value. For me, I’d spent an extra $25 and get the SLX 70 with the MGL spool since I like smaller reels. But the updated SLX XT seems like it can’t be beat for a 150-size reel, at that price point.
Depends on if you are fishing dirty water or clear in most cases. A 7.2:1 is the best all around but down south in Dirty water if you want to slow roll a big kicker blade and 6.3 might be better for you. Up in the north in clear water for smallies an 8.2:1 is better for burning blades.
It will work but it’s not designed for it. I would be on top of proper main tree nave and cleaning as the bearings are not shielded anti rust they are just standard anti rust bearings
I have the previous slx xt and been fishing in saltwater only. I do clean it properly and take care of it but I never had 1 single issue with it to date.
Also, I’m looking into getting a new shimano reel. I currently have the k model for frogging and I love it. But I’m in the market for something different to use for flipping and pitching what do you recommend? Thanks again
Really hard to beat the Curadio 150 MGL XG model in that price point. Above that my picks would be Bantam for sheer toughness and Metanium for the best off all worlds but the $ is higher!
@@ihsanfathi600 The SLX line in Japan is robust, but in the USA it's very basic. They should bring over their best SLX reels to the US market instead of just adding silent tune to their reels.
Should I buy the 1st gen slx xt or wait? I've been wanting a bait caster for a while and I think I've settled on the xt just don't know how long it'll be. Are the upgrades very noticeable in your opinion?
These new ones should be shipping August or September to stores. The reels are very close in specs and you got a great performing reel with the first gen!

Love my XTs… and my Curado’s, and my Exprides.. and my Calcutta’s.. and every other Shimano I own!.. had some over 20 yrs and still silky smooth

There’s no difference in size of the frame, I’ve had the xt and now I have the 70a only difference is the spool
I prefer having the 150 size spool capacity if you are using bigger lines or bigger baits.

Best bet would be the HG 7.2:1 model. It’s a jack of all trades

It’s what the sales team feels the market can bear. I’m sure eventually we will see more and more of the lineup show up here if the numbers work.
