You hit it on the head!!!! PHEV makes sense... enough range for daily commute.. but hybrid gas built in just in case. A plug in hybrid you can drive cross country with no fear.
I used to think that also, but I don't anymore! With a PHEV you are hauling around two power trains. Double the things that can break. And you *will* run out of electricity and will end up burning fuel. And in the winter, PHEVs often end up resorting to involving gasoline. I've since grown to full EVs. Charging isn't as bad as some say, and you can charge at home. You're just not going to run out of electricity, and *if* you do, just go to a public charger if you need a quick 15 minute top up. I'm no longer attracted to PHEVs. For years I was.
My exact feeling about the automatic wipers. Just drove across the country in a Sportage rental and hit a couple of rainstorms, was wishing I had standard variable intermittent wiper setting instead of auto-sensors which had a mind of its own.
The Hyundai/Kia auto wipers are among the worst I've come across. I was just in a Kona EV (review coming soon) and I got frustrated with the auto wipers just like in the Niro.
If it has one, why did the engine still turn on to provide cabin heating? I made sure that the car was in EV mode and then I turned on the climate control but the engine still fired up and stayed on until the climate hit 22 deg. celcius. If it has a PTC, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong but from what I experienced, the engine still turned on while in EV mode for cabin heating. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe on demo this week and it's been staying in EV mode even when I turned on the climate control.
@@MGReviewsBlog The engine would turn on to make the heaters warm unless in EV mode. I'm curious as the PTC unit is suppose to be mounted in the left hand of the engine compartment - it is so difficult to find out though.
@@MGReviewsBlog It seems though that while some EV models had batteries that went bad or degraded a lot, that most models didn't, and some models get very little degradation. It seems the anti EV hype is mostly driven by propagated misinformation. The Kona and Niro batteries appear to be particularly good.
Thanks for the good review and comparison. Very much appreciated.
Thanks for watching!

exactly! I'm a fan of PHEV and I think they're better for mass adoption than BEVs.

Are you sure the PTC isn't fitted in the Canada market. Guy in Finland has one and it is. Guy in UK has one and said it is. Can you check?

EV price is too high. Often used ones can be found for substantially less. The depreciation on these are rather high.
Yup, I think it's because of the uncertainty of the battery lifespan. No one wants to pay to replace one out of warranty.

Okay as a 2019 hybrid, better as a 2023 PHEV
You really look bored, man! It almost feels like you lost a bet to have the review done
