Aside from the witty concept and beautiful execution, I love this video because it brings out the time travel aspect of palindromes instead of the spatial (mirror) effect, which is profound.
Absolutely fantastic. I cannot imagine the amount of practice it took to perfect this, but perfect it you did. This new subscriber can't wait to see more!
@@MichaelTanMusic I thought I had it for a moment, but now I'm not sure again. Either way, you absolutely nailed it. This is a long way from "madam I'm adam"
I was thinking about how this could've been accomplished in the past, and I came to the conclusion that the best option would probably be a vinyl record - especially since it is probably the easiest physical media in history to play backwards.
And great thanks to Tom Scott for recommending this particular video, and thus the channel as a whole. This was brilliant- beyond platitudes brilliant. I will be hanging around to check out the rest of your content.
Dan from Studio Neat sent me here, this was his video pick for their weekly newsletter. Wonderfully done, great production, Michael! And nice, smooth playing, too.
haha thanks for the comment… yes i am sure a song could sound much better than this, i was really just trying to find out if the concept was plausible ! ☺️

@lTanMusic Douglas Hofstadter wrote Godel Escher Bach in 1970 as an introduction/exploration into the work of mathematician Kurt Godel, and how his ideas impacted physics, biology, and philosophy by demonstrating how meaning can arise spontaneously out of pattern. It was required reading for intellectuals of the hippie generation. In it he weaves a tapestry of prints by M.C. Escher with dialogues featuring Achilles and The Tortoise modeled after compositions by J.S. Bach, including a "Crab Canon" wherein the characters speak (approximately) identical lines in reverse order.
This has something in common with Michel Gondry’s video for Cibo Matto’s Sugar Water: ruclips.net/video/EN9auBn6Jys/видео.html …but it’s simpler and more elegant, in my opinion.
wow... when I finished watching your video, I felt like hugging you, which saying this way might even sound offensive, but that's not my intention... you're amazing
i had to painstakingly create a crop mask over one of me so i could appear to walk "in front" of the other. That was actually the only complicated edit.
It’s the same backwards. But if you must see it to believe it, you’ll need a video editor on your computer that can play a clip backwards (usually called “reverse”) - one of the commenters did it. Michael’s word is all I need, though. :-)
The duet “reversed” is actually reversed audio in the mix? The bow attack, etc seem to be forward, but he is playing pretty flat dynamically so maybe my ears lie?
Or Swedish? There is a scene in the 1984 movie "Top Secret!" which plays in a Swedish Bookstore. The scene has been recorded with the actors walking backwards but talking normal, but is shown in the movie in reverse.
I bet this took a lot of talent and that's admirable. unfortunatly I strongly dislike the actual outcome. it just didn't sound that good, but that's a matter of taste. cool beans!
@@MichaelTanMusic no need to take it so personally, my dude. I mentioned you having talent didn't I? The music itself just didn't sound that great imho so I wonder what's the point.

Michael’s word is all I need, though. :-)
The duet “reversed” is actually reversed audio in the mix? The bow attack, etc seem to be forward, but he is playing pretty flat dynamically so maybe my ears lie?
So, English backwards turns into Dutch. If you did it in Dutch forward, would it turn out like English?
Or Swedish? There is a scene in the 1984 movie "Top Secret!" which plays in a Swedish Bookstore. The scene has been recorded with the actors walking backwards but talking normal, but is shown in the movie in reverse.
So is this reversed and stitched together to get the palindrome?
correct
