I played an Authentic Guatemala D-28 and liked it a lot. My friend also had a D-28 custom shop expert 1937 non aged which I prefered soundwise. In your recordings I like the HD-28 the most. In real playing Situation I probably would prefer the roaring, barking, growling Sound and body resonance of the Authentic. Thanks and cheers.
B and D were my favs. I have an HD 28, first Martin I bought. Perhaps the best all around guitar I own, easiest to play, full sound. I keep it in standard tuning, Guild D55 in double dropped D, a canon, D42 in Palmer tuning for stills tunes, Taylor 813CE for LZ The rain Song, some strange G modal tuning I’ve never found another song in this tuning.
B and D were my favorites but I’m a bluegrasser so that shouldn’t be a surprise. The rosewood Eastmans with the addi top could get you near that sound if you can find a good one.
I’ve played a few d28’s at my local music store. The standard d28 sounded okay to me. However, I really liked a couple of hd28 guitars I’ve played because of the slight extra bass. I do not like the delux d28 at all. The liquid metal bridge pins give the guitar a metalic sound I personally don’t care for. I’ve got a yamaha fg830 CE with a new bone nut and saddle and new elixir medium gage phosphor bronze 1356 gage strings that will have to do for a d28 substitute. D28’s are some awesome guitars.
I like to b in the E in the blind test-- I play a 72D 28 which we had to refinish as the original owner stripped off the finished 26 years ago. I had it refinished with aged toner v😅vintage lacquer color. I just reset had the neck a month ago.. 25 years ago right after I had completely refinished by a master Luther.. I had it in a gig bag, and I was pulling it out of my car before a gig. It slid off the seat, dropped it on the curb, but I broke the top in three places it's been cleated and I've been playing it since.
Honestly not much, you could maybe argue the price when their are comparable options out there but an HD-28 can be very well worth it if this is the sound you're looking for. We couldn't really find anything to complain about with the HD, it's great!
I skipped D 28 but before that I was decided to get a Taylor’s builders dread Pacifica but it was a big disappointment ( I couldn’t tune it that omg…some kind of agent I felt was encouraging me in a subtle way to keep the Taylor…I had been iffy on it since but with some exceptions)…going back to Martin, i settled on OM 28 y had it set up before shipping…not perfect but I am not perfect 😅; the prodding guy was surprised when I told him that I did order it…we jammed as I play some chordal stuff y he was a pro instrumentalist but he praised the piece not my voice that I did…
Not to be critical because these videos provide a lot of information to consumers but is there really any value in comparing a satin and street legend? Aren’t they essentially the same? Isn’t there a Modern Deluxe that could have been part of the comparison?
honestly, as much as these guys do a good job, I've come to terms with treating all guitars on a case by case basis. They're good for people who order guitars but not all that beneficial for try before you buy guys. All 3 of my main acoustics are what I consider to be fairy dust guitars, ie magical guitars that are a 1 in a 1000 find. Already had a hog top 00015m when I went into a store to buy rosewood dread because I wanted a dread. The guy from the shop kept asking me to try the D15m they had. I brushed him off cuz I tried those before and the ones I tried didn't do it for me. After playing every D28 in the shop and 2 Atkins, I relented to the dude's nagging and tried the D15m. It smoked all of them. It was just as loud as a D28, just as booming, light as a feather, its brightness sat in between a Martin D28 and Atkin D28 (the Atkin being the darkest of them and the rosewood Martin the brightest) but it had a midrange punch that I've only heard from it and a 1959 D18 (the best guitar I've ever played but it's way out of my reach). Do all D15m guitars sound like that one? Hell no. The others I've played are nothing like it. Same thing with my J-45, which is a faded 50s model that was the lightest guitar in the shop and destroyed the custom shop Gibsons I shot it out with it along with every Martin hanging. Do all J-45 sound like that? Nope, but I did go to every guitar store in and near London, played every J-45, D18 and 28, Advance Jumbo and SJ-200 on display and found the fairy dust guitar.
We truly wish that we had a Modern Deluxe in stock at the time of making this but we decided to jump on the opportunity not knowing when the next time would be that we could have all of these models in. But we do totally get that and appreciate the feedback.
Madagascar really has more sound reflected and overtones. Unsure of the differences after 10 years. They may not be as much. The top tone wood would dominate.
Yep Martins are great guitars. However this is simply BS on vintage sound…They have what should be called a new world sound!Which is great.but not even close to the dark sounding Beautiful org..hands down…… I can prove it…. Where’s your vintage to compare.haha you know the sound is completely different.come on…
I think these kinds of comparisons between guitars of the same make and nearly the same specs has very little usefulness. Every individual acoustic guitar has traits each thier own. So the "best" sounding one in this video may not be the model that sounds best if you swap them all out for different guitars of the same models. In other words, when you find that amazing sounding guitar that sounds like one in a million, keep it. Even if the brand and model isnt exactly your "dream guitar". Youll be happier, and if you dont keep it you'll probably find yourself chasing guitars around hoping to hit the jackpot and find another "snowflake" lol.
B sounds good before I find out the reveal. No wonder I liked it. The most expensive one. Sure stood out!
Funny, I thought B sounded the best as well. There you go haha
B & D. The Reimagined HD 28 series is extraordinary in both quality and sound.
B i liked the best. Clear notes sounded great! Next was A
D was the winner for me - turned out to be the HD.
I played an Authentic Guatemala D-28 and liked it a lot. My friend also had a D-28 custom shop expert 1937 non aged which I prefered soundwise.

Would a Custom Shop D28 with most Authentic specifications (modified low oval neck, truss rod) cost less?

The two satins were standouts, but B was above them. Which makes sense, after seeing what model it was.
You should have tested the OM-28. Thats what I play. Has a great sound.
I need all of them!
Otherwise I cannot compare them.

Same. Can't believe the sound of my fg830. It's a $300 hd28. Absolutely insane guitar

Honestly for the $$$ the street legend sounded great to me.
I liked Street Legend and Authentic sound the best
No modern deluxe? Sad to see the MD wasn't on here
Please compare a D28 Standard vs D18 Standard. Would love to hear an Acoustic Shoppe version of the two guitars!!!
We totally have to, it's on the list!
@@AcousticShoppegreat & look forward to it!
Did all have the same strings and gauge? Were they all using the stock factory Martin strings?
I believe so.
What is the drawback of an HD 28?

I think you have missed the modern deluxe d28

@ I wondered if that might be the reason. Thank you for clarifying 👍🏼
How does Guatemala compare to Madi

this hd 28 seems to be a md 28...look at the top... the hd has the tinted top, md is pale, like this guitar you're featuring...😇

No 12 string …??
