    Its weird that on one hand they're trying to get more viewership with this in-season tournament, in the hopes that it makes the play more competitive during the regular season. But then on the otherhand they're happy to let the referees eject star players for being competitive and doing things like staredowns for example. Just such a dumb problem to be having, and could easily be solved by giving the referees a real consequence for acting emotional.

      I don´t get you guys. This are the rules and refs did nothing that ain´t in the rule book. If those rules are good or not is another topic, but refs are just doing their job according to the rules that are valid for 23/24 season. You should bash the NBA front office for telling them to enforce those rules. For refs it´s just a job with a boss in their backs who tells them what to do. Just like you and I are doing what our boss tell us to do. SOmetimes you don´t like it and you know this "project" is going to fail, but you do what you are told to do. Officiating games ain´t a walk in the park.

      They should at least have to explain why they give a tech. They shouldn't be able to just say technical foul on whoever without explaining why as well. I think if the league implements that then we would see alot less Techs and ejections.

    I love that analogy by Gil. They’re supposed to be the most cool, calm, and collected people. But cops and refs are always the most emotional and likely to have incendiary reactions to other people’s emotions, which only makes the situation even worse. Quit the job if you’ve become too emotionally invested.

    • @skillethead15
      @skillethead15 6 месяцев назад +5

      And just like cops they don’t really get punished. So what’s to deter them from doing it again. Being ejected off techs shouldn’t be a thing. You should be able to get as many techs as possible and the coach is going to straighten it out. But ejecting a player for arguing their missed call is stupid.

    The reffing this season seems almost intended to mess up the flow - the Boston/Memphis game the other night was a frigging *mess*. I've never seen so many offensive foul calls, travels, just constantly killing the flow of the game and stopping things. And, like, I know some folks complained, but I didnt even think it was unbalanced - it was just impossible for players to adjust to what the refs were calling, bc it kept changing.

    • @Mitch_Feral
      @Mitch_Feral 6 месяцев назад

      @@TheArpit1ish Oh, I disagree entirely. Both of those things happen constantly - like holding in football. If refs focus on that, the game grinds to a halt. It's been years since traveling has been called the way the rules are written, if they start enforcing it, the games collapse, bc what the players expect - specifically bc the refs havent called it that way for ages - is different than what is in the rules.
      Same with carrying - almost every carry violation I see is when a guy is bringing the ball across half court. No one trying to take it, play hasnt really started - just moving from one zone to the next. Who cares? Who watches the game and thinks 'damn, that guy keeps carrying one time when he's crossing the logo and calling out a play, they deserve to lose the ball'?

    • @TheArpit1ish

    I think that should have warning for excessive taunting/ celebration, but only use a technical foul if the player get mutiple warning in a row.

    It’s hard for certain officials to advance…. The network is more concerned with meeting a quota that’s how we have Terrible Asian ref, horrible Eat Indian, shaky woman refs, old officials who have clearly aged out are on every game. I officiate men’s college basketball for 5 years I’ve only given 1 tech.

    The issue is a simple fix the problem is the league is too cowardly to hold refs accountable. It’s insane how players are held to such a high standard in the heat of battle they get no wiggle room get an official who is the coolest calmest in the building can get emotional and make bad calls with no repercussions? A player goes off in the media it’s a fine. An egregious tech or toss out should result in a fine too. But like I said, cowards are running the league

    3xactly the league should make it almost impossible for a player to get ejected.
    They just implemented a rule for load management because they want players to play and the fan to see stars.
    The point is for the league to have the best product on the court for fans to consume.
    I dont even think players should be able to foul out because again ita a bout the players playing.
    If the league continues like this teams will just start having their stars get ejected to get around load management rule.

      "The government should ban speeding"
      Or you could learn to drive within the limit!
      If you can't play defense without fouling out every game, you suck at defence!

    Why not put a committee in the game that can review or reverse the referee's questionable call if needed? Also, penalize the ref financially if he is wrong and not just suspended.

    The real question was articulated during this clip in different way: "what is the purpose of the referee?" Are they merely a guardian of the technical aspects of the game? Are they the NBA morality police? Are they there for safety? Are they there for any other purposes other than to enforce the actual rules? The NBA needs to be extremely clear about what referees are there for. Referees should be impartial, dispassionate and disciplined. Beyond that we need to understand clearly what their role is.

  • @ObelixCMM
    @ObelixCMM 6 месяцев назад +6

    Only way to fix this is for NBA to present 5 refs for each game and each team can reject one ref.
    Some of these refs wouldn't have game all season
