    Ethiopia's borders aren't a great example of post-Colonial borders, as their borders are more or less defined by the old Ethiopian Empire's borders, rather than Italian Ethiopia. The Tigrays, Oromos and Amharas have been grouped together in a superstate since time immemorial and that's got nothing to do with European colonialism.

      I've always felt Ethiopia was the perfect control experiment. They alone escaped the scramble for Africa, and it didn't do them much good.
      (Note, I still think the scramble was an immensely bad thing and a stain of the legacy of the European nations who took part. But I don't think it's the main cause of Africa's modern problems.)

    • @salb5610
      @salb5610 2 года назад +21

      The borders around Ethiopia were drawn up by Europeans though. Take the Ogaden, the furthest east part of the country - it has historically been a part of Somali territories, but the British effectively gave it away to the Ethiopians in the 1940s. So while it may not be as straightforward as other African countries, the very act of creating the borders of countries that surround Ethiopia means that Ethiopia's modern borders are very much created by Europeans.

    • @aiwanano6507
      @aiwanano6507 2 года назад +15

      @@salb5610 Ethiopia invaded and took control of most of the Ogaden desert and organized a border with Italian and British Somaliland long before WW2. European powers simply had adjusted their borders to account for this now recognized African state. Following and during WW2, the borders were drawn nearly identical if not the same in most areas to the previous border excluding the dervish state so I wouldn’t really say that without extreme boldness unless I can be corrected.
      In short, borders that were drawn by the allies during WW2 were basically the same if not the same thing as set & recognizes pre-existing borders for Somalia and elsewhere, and the same can be said excusing the dervish state. I’d probably say that the only ‘real’ border change by the Europeans was giving Eritrea to Ethiopia.
      If I’m forgetting anything or need correction do let me know, thanks.
      “In the 19th century, the Ethiopian King Menelik II invaded the Somali-inhabited Ogaden region. The move directly contributed to the birth of a major Somali anti-colonial campaign led by Sayyid Mohammed Abdullah Hassan, the emir of Diiriye Guure and the Dervish State. Hassan's polity eventually collapsed a quarter of a century later in 1920, following heavy British aerial bombardment.”

Somalia is a failed state in constant civil wars whose main economic sector has been piracy for over two decades, Somaliland is literally the only part of the country that's stable and safe. We are the most homogenous people in the african continent we share 1 language, 1 religion and 1 ethnic group. Already 2 regions belonging to somali are held by both ethiopia and kenya if u think we will allow our country to be split further than ur moronic.
