Man, I use to watch this video back in like 2009 when I was 5 years old. I decided to search trains plowing, and I found this one. I'm so glad this video is still here. Brings back the good old days.
Been a while but it is Goodland, says it in the desc on the old CRI&P Mainline. However it is nice to see ur still active a decade and a half later lol@@railroad33
My grandfather, uncle, and father used to work on the rails, and drive. I wonder if they ever had to do this. Thank you for posting, I had to watch one of these videos when I went into logistics for RailVan (which is now Pacer).
The thing out front is called a spreader, and it's being pushed by a locomotive (obviously). We have to use these in Saskatchewan because we get so much snow. Our have one big wings on each side and a nose plow in the front and we put 3 guys inside to operate it. Pretty awesome stuff!
I have about 2 hours of footage of CN Snow plows plowing through the Midwestern Ontario Canada region like Palmerston,Listowel,Stratford,Lucknow,Wingham. My grandfather gave the tape to me,& it also has very old footage of steam engine Snowplows as well.
My father experienced this first hand. He was waiting at a red light train crossing in winter last year near Pembroke Ontario. He was well behind the wide stop line and was attempted to take a picture of the train crossing infront of him for his niece. Just as he clicked the picture on his cellphone the train exploded through a snowbank and pelted the truck and trailer with hundreds of chunks of ice and snow. Scariest thing hes ever experienced in 29 years of driving.
The two locomotives in this case are GM-EMD SD40-2s, each weighing in at roughly 853,600kg apiece (388,000lbs.). The plow is mounted on the front unit, and both are diesel-electric units. You'll be very hard pressed to find any electrified rail in the midwest, if at all.
I've seen a lot of train snow plow videos and this one is the most awesome. It's both creepy and cool to see that plow train cutting across the snow. If I didn't know what it was, it would probably scare the crap out of me. LOL
Man that's awesome. Love the Kansas accent too. I saw a thing on t.v. that showed how miserable it was before these plows were used. Men would have to actually physically shovel the snow off the tracks to keep the trains running. Talk about a hard job!
My gosh at the start you sorta think that the train has derailed and is like sliding along snow on a never ending trip it's crazy and the way the snow goes up so high is beautiful utterly fantastic video gotta be the best one I've ever seen yet fantastic thank you so much for uploading, 5 stars & favourite.
I'm still partial to the rotary plows, but this is cool! thank you for posting. I did expext to see a whole work train on the back, though. Must be from the local yard and not doing the mountain passes, maybe?
I've known about this video since I was little. Looking at the plow upfront reminds me of a clone trooper helmet. And really I liked to listen to the background music. I had no idea what the music was for all these years until I looked down in the comments and someone said its "Fall to Pieces - Song by Velvet Revolver".
I'm British so bear with me. The description says Goodland ks. KS means Kansas, right? Does it snow this badly so far south in the US? That is insane if it does.
Yes, 2 ft of snowfall isn't out of the ordinary near the East side of the US Rocky Mountains through the Winter months. Also have to mention the myriad of tornadoes in the spring and summer months!!
@@ianhawkins6187 I remember I was in Austin, Texas during the middle of February years ago and it being extremely cold. The roads and sidewalks were icy and it felt like walking on an ice skating rink. There were many cars that spun out of control.
so there are these polar winds that circle the north pole and hold in super cold air, global warming causes the winds to slow down so the super cold air spills out and heads south casuing a polar vortex. science, bitch
Andrew Cassato The so-called "Polar Vortex" has always existed, technically. It's a persistent low-pressure cyclone that exists in both the north and south poles. Although warmer global temperatures are associated with increased amplitude (meandering) of the polar vortex jet stream, causing abnormally low temperatures in the south yet even warmer temperatures towards the poles.
I recall being disturbed 20 years ago by the first mass media article I read about global climate change caused by warming. It said many places on Earth would see a warmer, wetter climate, but other places would get drier and colder or wetter and colder. That worried me because I live in a highly productive agricultural area where crops that feed millions are adjusted to cold/dry winters, warm/wet springs and hot/dry summers. Losing a few inches of annual rainfall or a few degrees average temperature would take millions of acres out of production.
Stand beside the tracks when that beast plows by and you've got YOURSELF a perfect snowman. Then again, the force of the snow would probably throw you a couple of feet.
Haha I hate being late for work because my boss gets irate! This morning I was in a hurry and when I saw those rail guards go down I knew I was in trouble! That is pretty amazing this train stayed on track. Those things are pretty powerful machines. Its nice to watch them go by but they really are LOUD!
Looks like the plow cleared the main OK but buried the hoppers sitting on the siding in snow. Love these grain elevator location scenes no matter what the season.

I believe this was taken in 2006 in NW Kansas
Me too
I believe the the town is edson kansas
same here brother used to watch this video with my dad over and over when i was 4

I wanted to be a programmer, but if I can land a job doing this, I'd be just as happy.
Trains are awesome.
12 years later, I did not end up becoming a programmer, nor a train plow operator but I got a like from George Costa so that's close enough for me :)
My grandfather, uncle, and father used to work on the rails, and drive. I wonder if they ever had to do this. Thank you for posting, I had to watch one of these videos when I went into logistics for RailVan (which is now Pacer).
i love how the train looks after it clears those first few cars at 1:33. it looks just like a giant self-moving snowy shield

Imagine hiking through the wilderness, coming across a field, having no idea you're near a railroad and see this this coming at you!
I remember reading this comment when I was a kid! Awesome!

Please share! Pretty please 🥺 🙏🏾. If you’re still alive of course, 9 years later

This hot weather really makes me long for these nice cold snowy days . Very impresssive to see that train plowing that snow
Very well done. Very nice scenery. Some very nice photographic possibilities.

no they were both SD40T-2s
@@ejdsndnj Yep, you're right, those are tunnel motors. Didn't catch that before.
@@ejdsndnjboth are SD45T-2s. Unfortunately they’ve been sold under G&W and are currently rotting in a yard in Ohio
Incredible skill - the way the driver steers and keeps it on the rails when there's no way they can see them.

That's just amazing to see. Don't think we even have plows that big around here!
For others returning here, the plow derailed two days later and remained in the spot for about the next decade
My two-year-old daughter , who is into trains, loved this.
That's awesome! I remember when I was in Alaska I saw trains parked (I wish they had been working) with big snow-blower like front ends.
That has to be the most fun job in the world
I mean, you can’t even see anything out the window, but still
The snow monster cometh.
MEMORIES!!! It’s one year younger than me!!
This is awesome. I've never seen something like this before.
Fantastic! We have not so much snow in the winter.
Thank you
Looks so nice when the train coming from far distance and push the snow in the air !
Man that's awesome. Love the Kansas accent too. I saw a thing on t.v. that showed how miserable it was before these plows were used. Men would have to actually physically shovel the snow off the tracks to keep the trains running. Talk about a hard job!
love seeing anything with my Southern Pacific in it
That wassssssssssss sooooooo cool, i would love to be the engineer!
Great video shot railroad33!!
Its looking very spectaculair and is a faster snow plowing then the Rotary train plow.
I come along this video every once in awhile.I have to watch it every time.nice vid.

Wow, super video, thanks for taking the time to post it so others can enjoy it.
Have a great holiday season!!!!!

I would like to spent some time of my life in a place like that with so much snow :)
until you actually had to do it
WELL COME ON OVER
"Yer jist about out if it." "Ah, no you're not...."

That would be scary to see if you did not know there were train tracks out there.
freaking cool.
The old comments are GOLD
I'm still partial to the rotary plows, but this is cool! thank you for posting. I did expext to see a whole work train on the back, though. Must be from the local yard and not doing the mountain passes, maybe?
No mountain passes here lol
Excellent vid
This is the only good thing to come from a train watcher.
Train snow 😤
ctfxc brought me here

We had Sirius Radio Playing @ we were protecting the x-ing ahead of the plow so no one would get hit.
That was hella cool !!! huge waves of snow baby lol
I'm British so bear with me. The description says Goodland ks. KS means Kansas, right? Does it snow this badly so far south in the US? That is insane if it does.
Yes its Kansas & we always get snow but some years are worse than others.

Look up Continental Climate. It can snow in Dallas.

You have a pretty exciting job my friend, how did you end up working for the railroad and the snow plowing aspect of it?
Came here 12 years later to say, I’m not sure if we will ever find out
...and that's how it's done! Know this vid for more than 2 years now - still the best!
Awesome display of power of those locomotives
2 UNPATCHED SOUTHERN PACIFIC?!?
Sold patched and gone now I’m afraid. G&W has not been kind to the KYLE.
Snowpiercer
I could watch this all day
wow man...now that was impresive.
Good vid man
Geo
Wow, this is amazing. However, the person that filmed this has questionable talent.
let us appreciate his intention to make others knowledgeable rather than photoskills
Pretty hard to record when were at work protecting the x-ing. At least I was able to record!!
This actually looks like my driveway this year. Where's this global warming thing coming from???
so there are these polar winds that circle the north pole and hold in super cold air, global warming causes the winds to slow down so the super cold air spills out and heads south casuing a polar vortex. science, bitch

THAT, is a load of stupid untruth. Just wow.

Awesome job!!
That train owned that snow :)

That is so cool! Never seen it before nor heard of it! Looks awesome! Though wouldn't want to be standing too close aye ...
Train was blowin through that snow like it wasnt even there, nice
@Depaya
i liked the snow plowing part too but i think the part where he plowed snow over the other wagons was the best :)
I agree with 1 and 2 but 3 adds to the whole video and makes it authentic
That was cool. It looked like a huge monster coming at you in the snow... Nice video.

Yes, it's just a train. A train blasting through drifts of snow. I've never seen that. Worth a look.
wow
much train
very snow
