Hi It's a beautiful & heart touching song❤❤Hello from Scotland!. How are you doing today? I guess you have a great passion for music just like I do? I hope to hear from you soon!!! One thing about music is that when you're sad you listen to the lyrics, when you happy you dance to the beat!
This song was playing a lot when my wife and I were trying to have a baby. Fast forward 3 years and 2 rounds of IVF and we have a beautiful 1 1/2 year old.
This song was so prophetic. When this song came out I was staying with my mother in the hospital. It struck me so. Then, later I saw the video. I figured I must have been feeling what they were singing because the video interpretation was spot on. After she passed, the first rabbit hole was our unalive ....care system. Not health. AND that big farm that takes nature and corrupts it to hurt us for profit. That was just the tip of the iceburg to all the deep rabbit holes. The plan, set forth before any of us living now, were born... is coming to pass. Humanity doesn't even KNOW what humanity is anymore. May The Most High forgive us for not seeing it until it was too late.
" If you're loved by someone you're never rejected..." These lyrics speak to my soul. I knew the first time I heard those words that I will always be a fan of these guys. It helped me look at life a little different. Thank you Avett Bros. Your shows are amazing. I was lucky enough to the their father come on stage and play some gospel. What an encore. God bless them.
First time I heard this song, it instantly moved me to tears. I listened to it over and over for an hour and somehow it triggered an emotion of guilt I felt about something from over 20 years ago. It helped me realize I was over due to forgive myself. Finding this kind of peace was life changing. This song will forever be a part of my soul. TY Avett Bros.

I've been a huge Avett Brothers fan for 15 years or so. I've seen them live more times than I can remember. This song always, without exception, makes me cry. A bittersweet cry - happiness and sadness meet in the most beautiful way. I've been a banjo player/singer for 20 years and this is still my favorite song to cover. I absolutely love this track with every ounce of my being.
This video is probably the greatest music video ever, and the most haunting song I have ever heard, because of the honesty of how we are as a society ❤💜.
i first heard this song when i was really young. it was an exhibit at a local art museum, and i sat there for ages just watching and watching it play. i forgot the name of it soon after, and for years it would be in my head, and i'd remember the song with the good lyrics and awesome animation. still, i could never find it. an in-depth search of the internet has finally allowed me to rediscover this song, and i'm so glad i did. absolutely love this song.

I am frightened because I refuse to think they don't see it; they just act like they don't. Or that there is a gray area. There should be a word that describes what their voices are. That means warmth and wisdom, and home and peace, all wrapped up together in one word. Well, I guess there is LOVE. I have been listening on repeat, no reason to stop now...
This song soundtracked a poignant moment in my life- a hot, crowded train car at 2a home after a day in the city, in China, where I lived as the lone foreigner. Everyone else was asleep and I listened to this song as I looked out the dark window, and I knew I was where I should be.

Happy Birthday to the Hardest Marine ever Gabriel Gerald , from surviving the dead , no easy hope . One of the best books I ever listened from audio book and still going .
I’m here because I’m reading slammed by Colleen Hoover and she said the book was dedicated to this band because of this song. So here I am listening to it.
Avett wisdom is as sharp as double edge sword to the beast that mocks and wants destruction of man. A burning torch for the weary and broken and a shield from the whispers of night. God bless em both.
So happy for you and nothing but the best. Please share this journey you have been on, u will save many god bless you, I do wish I had found that 1 person
Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good. That honor, courage and virtue mean everything; that power and money . . . money and power mean nothing. That good always triumphs over evil. And I want you to remember this, that love - true love never dies. Remember that boy . . . remember that. Doesn’t matter if it is true or not, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in.
This song always reminds me of my mom she loves this song she even framed some of the lyrics and hung it up Btw she’s not dead but I only see her every other week

When I first got this video on iTunes a few years ago, I've been in love with their sound and how perfect and melodic they are. One of my favorite videos of all time. :)
I remember hearing this song for the first time years ago by chance. Having no idea of who the Avett Brothers were. I'd never heard such a moving song full of inspiration. I'm so glad to see this song has helped so many people in the comment section.
Heard this back in 09 me and my lads then 9 and 11 played this on repeat for ages singing our arses off for the longest time now in 2024 my youngest now 22 just asked if i remembered this. How could i ever forget this absolutely gorgeous song and the memory of me and my boys singing along. Liked and an easy sub cheers.
My parents and their close friends are all big fans of the avett brothers, so naturally I would always hear this song for the past 3 years when coming over, and although ive never shown it, I liked the song very much but i always told them "its eh. I like my music much better" (fall out boy, imagine dragons, etc.) Recently, a close family friend, who whenever i went to her house, would hear this song, got diagnosed with cancer. So I ecided to listen to the avett brothers, because it reminds me of her, since ive known her my entire life. This is my first time watching this video and I must say, this is a work of art. Its a shame only 1 million people have decided or stumbled upon it.
Been a fan for years and am finally learning the back story of this video, and watching it for the first time. Thanks to Avett Brothers archivist (shout out to Tim M.),for including the interview with the very talented and special Jason Mitcham, in his Avett Bros Archive fanzine Long Story Short ...Vol 1. This is amazing work all around
There is no more important message than the one contained in this song and every human that has ever lived has the potential to understand it if they just look.
Coronavirus has given me a head full of doubt. I'm sorry for the darkness upon our world. My dream is that one day we see this world heals, not just of this, but all of the atrocities that lie upon it.
I've had this song on my playlist for a few years... I just heard it in a commercial..I hope more people will discover your music ♡♡♡ Thank you for being in the soundtrack of my life.
My mom has this song on tape and we used to listen to it while driving our old rv. I forgot the name and had to look it up again and I'm so glad I found it
This song total encompasses the world as a whole both the past, present and future! This is one of the most epic songs I've ever heard. Surpassing anything the Doors or Mr Jimi has ever done or wrote and illustrated as well! If you don't see it , well I'm frightened as well! Whatever you may have grown up knowing cn maybe destroyed before your very eyes! 10,20,30 or 40 years and what u once knew will be gone! Multiple that by ×2 , 60 to 80& 100 years! Where will everything you know be in 40 to 50 years? Something to ask and think about for all in there 20's and 30's
This us truly one of my favorite songs. I'm 4 months shy of hitting the big 50 soon. A half a century. Listening to music my whole life and all the great classics, but nowadays thing's have changed and not for the better. This song helps me get through and to always stand strong in my beliefs. As a proud southern born traditional conservative American I'd be blind, deaf, and dumb not to see that "There is a darkness upon us all (Government corruption) that's flooded in light (freedom) In thr fine print they (liberal media/fake news) tell us what's wrong and whats right. It comes in black and iit comes in white and I'm frightened by those who don't see it. Where (America) nothing is Owed, Deserved, or Expected. And our lives will not change by the man that's elected (All politicians) If you're loved by someone you're never rejected. Decide what to be and go be it. 😊
Bulletin board stops producing shadows after the first day. Seems like if you go through the trouble of having a shadow when we first see it, you'd always want it there as time progresses and days turn to nights, etc. All the same the video is really beautiful.
I have been loving these brothers for years and continue to love them. Can’t wait to see them live with my sister at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn next week. ❤❤❤

This song always reminds me of my mom she loves this song she even framed some of the lyrics and hung it up
Btw she’s not dead but I only see her every other week
What lyric did she frame ?
Love this song very fitting for my travels through this life.Thank You for this song
nostalgia just hit me like a freight train
Avett Brothers bring out so many emotions. Real feelings come to light. Great, great group.
Decided I wanted to go back loving to read books. Started with Colleen Hoover and her book is dedicated to you. I got curious and now I know why. Your songs are powerful.
Beautiful. Makes you smile and cry at the same time.
I play this often.. And just pray my daughter "is frightened by those who don't see it"! 👍💕
Damn this has to be my favorite song by them.
I have to agree
No not really
This song is THE antidote to complacency. “Decide what to be and go be it.”
I don't usually like videos, let alone comment, ... this made me happy and that's all...
soo emotional.. soo many people don't realize happy is a part of emotionalism ( album reference) #hadtosayit
Why does this bring tears to my eyes?
Because you're human!
You need to open the door to the bird cage. Love.
Continually giving me the inspiration I need. 🙌 ❤
This song keeps me sober, i listen to it everytime I doubt myself.
You stay classy San Diego
Prayers to you! 🙏
I know it’s been 4 years since you wrote this but how is she doing now?
This brings me nostalgia being with my dad who loves The Avett brothers and it makes me cry every time
Been a fan for years and am finally learning the back story of this video, and watching it for the first time. Thanks to Avett Brothers archivist (shout out to Tim M.),for including the interview with the very talented and special Jason Mitcham, in his Avett Bros Archive fanzine Long Story Short ...Vol 1. This is amazing work all around
If you have the chance go see them live. ❤Avett Brothers.
The honesty and sincerity shines through. Good music for these times.
Forgot about this song. Man, it's still as good as ever. Meaningful music.
@avettbrothers you guys deserve more credit than you get. I love you guys.
Excellent words to ponder!
There is no more important message than the one contained in this song and every human that has ever lived has the potential to understand it if they just look.
The avett brother make me cry.
*happy tears*
Their song’s make me so very happy...

What a beautiful, soulful song!! 😍😍
From Greenville NC. That means born and raised.I love the Avett brothers, and I adore this song.
Coronavirus has given me a head full of doubt. I'm sorry for the darkness upon our world. My dream is that one day we see this world heals, not just of this, but all of the atrocities that lie upon it.
Well said my friend
Thank you for the comment, well spoken indeed!
How about now?
Only Jesus can heal the world
Why does this song make me wanna get a financial advisor? 💵💰😎💰 💵
listening to this on repeat. I need a hug. Also giving a hug to anyone who needs it.
Life is hard.
The effort put in the video 😌😌😌😌😌😌😌😌😌😌😌😌
RIP my dearest Mother, she loved this song. ❤️
best Avetts song ever!!!
This song restored my faith.
This video is a masterpiece. The song is even better. Love you guys
Somebody near & dear to my ❤ (WW) recommended this song to me & I love it! Shout out to you, Whitters!
I have been loving these brothers for years and continue to love them. Can’t wait to see them live with my sister at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn next week. ❤❤❤
Not even a big Avett fan, but this song, right now, is everyone’s song whether they realize it or not. This is our song in this moment.
☀️⚡💚⚡☀️
I saw U..s once live, near Pittsburgh, it was great! Thank You, for sharing as U..s do so well!
Beautifully haunting
Hi Robert
It's a beautiful & heart touching song❤❤Hello from Scotland!.
How are you doing today? I guess you have a great passion for music just like I do? I hope to hear from you soon!!!
One thing about music is that when you're sad you listen to the lyrics, when you happy you dance to the beat!
At Red Rocks 2021. Top Notch
Red Rocks 2024 loved every second of it!
"And there was a kid, with a head full of doubt,
So i scream til i die so the last of those bad thoughts are finally out"
That helps my inner child to focus on good things in life. I must fight everyday to get my training right.
I have Borderline personality disorder and that song really helps to get away the wrong thoughts 🙏🏻
This is the year 2100 and you are listening to this song 🎶 I will not be here anymore , peace and love to you. Keep up on your dreams!
There's a darkness upon me that's flooded in light, and the fine friends that tell me what's wrong and what's right. There's a darkness upon me that's flooded in light, and I'm frightened by those who don't see it.
My favorite New Year Song
and I’m frightened by those that don’t see it
