Galen used Kodachrome II until 1974 when it was discontinued and then used Kodachrome 25 and 64 until 1984 when Fuji released Pro slide films. Then he started using different film stocks Kodachrome, Ektachrome, Fuji Pro for different occasions as each had its strengths and weaknesses, only when Velvia was released in 1990 he started using it, and was pretty happy with it. This is according to his book 'Galen Rowell's Vision'.
