Really well done video! I had an iguana for 15 years, and he got BIG! Great pet if you spend time with them, but too many people buy them for the kidlets and don't realize how to properly care for them. I had mine way before the internet, so I read several books. It also helped to have a vet who knew exotics and was willing to make house calls. Giving an iguana a shot is no picnic.
The best thing to do about housing is potty train your iguana so it can be out in the house mostly cageless. They will often choose their spot to poop (mostly around a pool of water) and stick to it. So you can then replace it when they use it like a litter box. The best thing to do is be super consistent with your rewards with them. Mine also gets outside time to play in the sunshine though so she's spoiled. This video has good advice for food.

I'm not an expert but I'm not a beginner and I getting a blue iguana tomorrow and I have a green iguana and have had ball pythons, red tail boas, alligators and a rattlesnake
Actually - that is inaccurate. While in California, we can't own Alligators and rattlesnakes, there are absolutely states where you can legally own them. Always best not to assume...
I had one when i was about 12. I was given a large cage for her. Had her around 5 years mostly ed her thawed frozen vegitables, romaine with some other vegiies and ruits at times. She liked me and was fine with others so long as she could see me, if i let the room she would no longer want to be held by whoever had her. She really hated when i had to visit my father in another state and was gone or a ew weeks at a time. She died after 5 years but though i read a few books i never added vitamins into her diet/ She really liked eating ants as well, never cought her eating any other insects. She use to be able to run around on our screen in porch in Florida.
I actually do mean a glass tank altho i do have to build a wood cover for it. I will also only have live plants in the tank and the substrate will be a mat of live grass. I will also be able to move it out of direct sunlight if the days get too hot
My Iguana is a picky eater. He wont eat pellets or caned iguana food. He will only eat fresh greens and vegetables etc. Should I be concerned or is this normal?
I agree with you that iguanas take alot of work.... I have a male two year old green iguana named Iggyman, My iguana is friendly and he loves to be petted but it took a while for him to let me do that. I think that if anyone is thinking about getting a iguana they need to do research and see if they have the time to spend with the iguana and do they have the money to take care of a iguana.
I have a baby i am trying to keep alive because his 2 previous owners were clueless as ever. The poor guy was frozen when i picked him up and it broke my heart so i begged them to let me take him. His tail keeps dying and im trying to get him in the vet asap. prayers he can finally be seen tomorrow morning. The baby has my heart. I also own a bearded dragon. shes almost a year old now. Shes so lovely. #lizardlife they are my world.
Can you help me with selecting the right lighting for a huge cage? I’m custom building a giant enclosure for my 6 month old red iguana. I want to make sure I’ve got the right lighting since I’m going to build it into the enclosure. Also what size would you recommend building the enclosure? If need be I have an extra bedroom I can take the couch out of and put his enclosure in, so I can do almost any size. He will have the run of the house when he’s bigger, I won’t be keeping him in the enclosure ...but yeah. I want to make the best enclosure possible.
Have a water bottle, spray its food with water to keep hydrated. Also get a medicine grinder, grind vitamins and commercial food then sprinkle over vegetables. Spray with water.
I have a baby green iguana and I need help on handling him. He's very scared and when I hold him he does whip and bite but since he's a baby it barely hurts. I just don't want to stress him out to much, any ideas?
+They_call_me_crybaby _whats_your_name Mine came from a local reptile shop so he was pretty tame when I got him, but one thing that helped to get him really calm was to put him on my head when I'm doing things like watching TV or studying. He liked the height and felt free enough. Handfeeding also is a really good bonding excersice.
Thankyou - for your advice| a baby One just came Home - I hope a can give him or she a Welcome new day of the year 2023 - I got scared then I thought I can do it with help - blessings to you
Luckyly I live on the countryside and can pick fresh food plants outside, because they eat alot when they are fully grown and that canned food is quite expensive. My big male would eat me poor xD
hey help me plss i just found a little iguana on the streets with some boys bother it. so i dont know alot of iguanas i have it on a open box cause idk were to start or what to start doing and the iguana is a bit scare what i do?? pls help me i dont what it to die
If it’s still alive put it in an affordable plastic container twice it’s size if it’s young, if it’s old give it to someone who can take care of it but that’s also a good thing for a baby/ juvenile, they eat mostly greens, bananas, peppers and grapes would be a good diet
Hi Jen, I'm in love! LOL.... But anyway regarding my baby green Iguana. as you know. My Gertrude has been forced to eat Via a hyper syringe. I have great hopes that Gertrude and I will make it. Now on a personal note, I've finally got Gertrude to take a shit in the tub and her eating habits are improving slowly. I have made puree veggies with a mixture of her Candy known as a variety of melons. I will keep in touch with you as by know I'm not ready to give Gertrude up so easily. Thanks for your help. Chuck
my iguana won't eat his food if I put calcium on it... but I do give him the vitamin fortified dry food along with his fruits/veggies/greens and he loves that. is that alright?
should i be considered if my iguana isnt as big as he should? u said that one is but 4 months mines 6-7 months and mybe about that size .... he seems healthy and happy but he is a really picky eater he wont eat alot of stuff and that stuff he does like i dont want to give to every single day ...
So i want to get a baby green iguana and house him in a 4ft long X 3ft wide X 4ft tall tank. I plan to keep it outdoors since i live in the caribbean. Is this adequate room?
er....I have an iguana and its really hard to find out what type it is (we live in asia) so do you know how i could find out? because the owner of the petshop didn't tell us....
Iguanas do make good pets but before you get one you need to see if you have the room that it needs and you need to see if you have the time to spend with it and the money to take care of it. I have a 2 year old male green iguana named Iggyman he is friendly he has never hit me, but the reason he is friendly is because I got him when he was a month old and I started spending time with him the same day I bring him home and I took the time to earn his trust.... The one tip to everyone that is getting a iguana I would say when you bring it home do not be in a rush to handle it and to try and earn the iguana `s trust because if you just go in the cage and try to pick up the iguana and the iguana is not use to it or the iguana is afraid then you might get hit or beat.
For wood in the cage for my iguana to climb on, I went to a lake near my home on got some large pieces of drift wood (so it would be smooth) and sanitized it to cut costs:)
hi, I am 14 years old. I have an iguana, and he is 7 months old right now. I was wondering when he gets bigger. would it be okay if I het a 6ft tall 5ft wide cage once he gets bigger. right now I have him in a 3ft cage. I have a UV light in the front and in the back I have my basking he lamp which is shining directly on the tree that I put up for him and I have my night light for night time, and I also have a log for him to cool under. I put a variety of vegetables in his bowl every day.
Hi, do you guys happen to know if Rock Iguanas are a better pet than a Green Iguana? I was told Rock Iguanas are more docile and calm and enjoy handling much more than a Green Iguana. However I read Rock Iguanas still need around the same enclosure size as a Green Iguana but don't need much height because they're not arboreal. I was also told Rock Iguanas can have some protein in their diet like Mice and insects every so often unlike Green Iguanas.
They're different, and I wouldn't necessarily call one more docile or a better pet than the other. The rock iguanas do get larger and heavier bodied, though, and need quite a large cage space.
Great video :) but next couple videos about care for the reptiles. Can you actually set up the tank. I think you make really cool looking tanks and gives me more ideas for future tanks ! Thanks
Is the night light necessary? I know there are other ways of keeping the tank warm at night and I intend on keeping my iguana in my room so I’d prefer to not use a night light
Ceramic heat bulbs work well at night. Zero light, just heat, and they last years too. you can find several brands of them on our website, www.LLLReptile.com at the guaranteed lowest prices :)
He has a nice 28 In. Long 5.0 reptisun bulb and and he climbs right up to it so it seems he is getting enough UVB, but I have been handling him every 3 days or so in an effort to get him tamed by the time he is an adult so I wail stop that. At what point should I be able to handle him? Thank you so much for your time and help!
griffin bear When he's eating consistently, you can start trying to interact with him bit by bit. See if his appetite increases without the handling, and then you can start trying to hand feed him. Once he's eating out of your hand, you can start coaxing him out to be held for short periods, and go from there. Look at it more like building trust rather than "taming", and it'll be a bit easier. Make sure the UVB bulb is no older than 6 to 10 months, it may not be putting off enough UVB anymore.
lllreptile i saw on your web site you made a store in vegas and i live there do you have green iguanas to sell there i plan on getting one for my brother since hes moving out and he wanted one but busy with work and he researched alot for them
Can someone help me. I’m having a hard time with my baby iguana lighting. I have a 100watt bulb in but it reaches a max of 86 degrees on the basking side. I was thinking about using a 150 but I don’t know if it’ll be to much she loves climbing so she climbed on a vine that’s probably 8inch from her basking light
Delaney Reyes yes I used to live by The Canadian border but I moved to Texas and there’s geckos and lizards running around everywhere it’s beautiful here and at the carnivals I won my iguana I felt so bad for it I had to get it. In NY I have a 15 year old one and it’s huge so I mostly know the care for one
Had these guys before...... Shes right about this not being a beginners pet, your gonna have to be almost willing to give them an entire room to themselves as adults, definaitly nothing smaller than 8 x 8 x 8 enclosure just to substain them and never let the room or encoslsure dip below 80 degrees.
Hey i have a baby green iguana and im wondering how early can i House him outside? And how often should i mist him if thé temp is between 80 and 90 degrees?
How about naming it Juan or Juana (depending on whether it's male or female). When I think of Iguana's I always think of Mexico, as I traveled there once to a jungle region and there were all sorts of wild ones in the trees there!
A question: what if i cant give a sun bath to my iguana every week, what would happen? I also have a problem with the humidity, it stays about 50% to 60%...I have a mini waterfall inside the terrarium and i thougth it would solve the problem, but it didn`t...=S You have any advice?
I think that could be the reason why many people own Bearded Dragons nowadays than Iguanas lol. Back then people didn't know how big Iguanas got and didn't know how to care for them and they usually died within a year or 2. Bearded Dragons don't get as big maybe around 2 feet are very hardy compared to other Reptiles and are great for Beginners to the Reptile world. Oh yea also can't forget Bearded Dragons are way more tame than Iguanas and sometimes do enjoy being handled. :)
Im seriously taking into consideration of getting myself a baby iguana. but im not sure if i want to take the chance of getting a male or female baby iguana (because when they're young they are almost impossible to know wether they are male or female) i want a female because they are not as aggressive or territorial when they reach maturity.. i need advice ASAP..
Hey i know you guys have these on the site . but is there anyway you guys can tell the sex of a red iguana because i would like to purchase 1 asap but i want a male.
Have you heard of C.A.T. ( constructional aggression treatment ), and what are your thoughts on using this process? Do you recommend another type of "therapy" for taming juvenile iguana iguana? Thanks. Bill
I haven't heard of that myself, sorry. I don't know that there's a particular therapy I'd recommend for attempting to tame an iguana. Generally, patience and routine are what help iguanas calm down and become accustomed to people. Iguanas also go through an adolescent/teenage stage much like people, where they are irritable, cranky, and moody just like teenage humans. Most of them outgrow it, but some adult iguanas remain constantly grumpy.
Thank you very much for your suggestion. I have a juvenile who has been with me since he was 6mos. or so. He is approx. 2 ½ . He is still skittish, but not nearly as much as he use to be. Any and all advice on how to tame my ig is welcome. The less stress I can give him is less stress on me as well. I have subscribed and I will be viewing more of your videos . Thank you again. Bill
so I rescued an iguana a few days ago. all I have so far is a 75 watt heat lamp with a brand new 75 watt reptile bulb, bowl, food and branches to climb on along with her 40 gal tank. What would be my next steps to getting her set up right? She's already super tame and eats food from your hand. I'm also worried cause I havnt seen her go Into or drink water and shes sleeping alot but I have been spraying down her and the cage once a day. Could it be cause she's shedding? thanks for any and all advise :)
could you please help me i bought an iguana at a local pet shop it has been one week and she doesnt even try to eat she has a heat lamp and a uvb lamp i keep her on a 40 gal tank while i build her big custom cage i feed her mixed greens even tried mixing pellet food there and some yellow squash i tried papaya and nothing she just doesnt even show interest in eating i do have experience on reptiles so i know what i am doing its just that this iguana just wont eat at all she lost a little weight

Charis Zhang it's not she me states have laws about it but for the rattlesnake you need a permit
I mean some
Judging by your videos your like 10 so you probably own an iguana but take terrible care of it so stop trying to show off kiddo
Wow!
I bought that for spark that you showed underneath food bowl dish he borrowed his self in there
I had one when i was about 12. She use to be able to run around on our screen in porch in Florida.
my iguana lives at my school and he is over 3 feet long and super friendly
Brody Koehn he lives at your school? Who takes care of it? That sounds cool lol
カメMvrco at my university we have an animal house. They take care of the animals on campus
I run my Frogger machine for my baby blue iguana is 5 months old don't know if it's a girl or boy yet is looking really pretty
Great video, and an excellent presentation!
How many days out of the week should I give my iguana fruits.....
How do u tame a it because our iguana when we open the cage it starts running everywhere
Gotta earn it's trust also a big cage could be the issue. Look up reptile-parrot videos
Can you do a setup on desert iguanas please thank you 😊😊
hey desert iguana are TRUE iguana they look like it but not TRUE and i might be wrong but still check
Thankyou - for your advice| a baby One just came Home - I hope a can give him or she a Welcome new day of the year 2023 - I got scared then I thought I can do it with help - blessings to you
There Horrible pets
Love the video! but whats the most important things in this video to feed them?
Give him alot of space amd heat, and romaine lettuce, my baby loves his lettuce
Will a 15 gallon tank work for a baby?
Hi Jen, I'm in love! LOL.... But anyway regarding my baby green Iguana. as you know. My Gertrude has been forced to eat Via a hyper syringe. I have great hopes that Gertrude and I will make it. Now on a personal note, I've finally got Gertrude to take a shit in the tub and her eating habits are improving slowly. I have made puree veggies with a mixture of her Candy known as a variety of melons. I will keep in touch with you as by know I'm not ready to give Gertrude up so easily. Thanks for your help. Chuck
can the shedding problem happen with another lizard? love these videos so helpful , can you do a leopard gecko, crested gecko, and alligator skink?
my iguana won't eat his food if I put calcium on it... but I do give him the vitamin fortified dry food along with his fruits/veggies/greens and he loves that. is that alright?
should i be considered if my iguana isnt as big as he should? u said that one is but 4 months mines 6-7 months and mybe about that size .... he seems healthy and happy but he is a really picky eater he wont eat alot of stuff and that stuff he does like i dont want to give to every single day ...
is it better to buy a baby iguana or a somewhat raise one?
baby cuz u can raise em however you want
hi i have a green iguana got him in aug last year and he is still very timid do u have any tips to get him more used to handling.
Do you have a complete iguana kit?
So i want to get a baby green iguana and house him in a 4ft long X 3ft wide X 4ft tall tank. I plan to keep it outdoors since i live in the caribbean. Is this adequate room?
I was just wondering if there are any species of iguanas that can be kept as pets, but fairly small. BTW great video!
Desert iguanas stay relatively small, but are extremely uncommon in the pet trade.
***** really saw one 1 month ago at petsupermarket Beautiful red and black animal.
I would say the spray calcium is the best kind to get for iguana because most iguanas do not like the other stuff.
er....I have an iguana and its really hard to find out what type it is (we live in asia) so do you know how i could find out? because the owner of the petshop didn't tell us....
I'm thinking about getting a green iguana and wanted to know how can I keep humidity in a screen cage
I'm thinking about getting one too but I'm not really sure put up a vid of him in the household and how he reacts to it it would probably help thanks
My new iguana is probably a couple weeks old but when I hold it it stays on me for a little and after it tries to run away is that normal?
Hi, do you guys happen to know if Rock Iguanas are a better pet than a Green Iguana? I was told Rock Iguanas are more docile and calm and enjoy handling much more than a Green Iguana. However I read Rock Iguanas still need around the same enclosure size as a Green Iguana but don't need much height because they're not arboreal. I was also told Rock Iguanas can have some protein in their diet like Mice and insects every so often unlike Green Iguanas.
They're different, and I wouldn't necessarily call one more docile or a better pet than the other. The rock iguanas do get larger and heavier bodied, though, and need quite a large cage space.
hi do u ship to ontario canada
did u end up getting one
Very helpful video, thank you!
There is no way I can wave my hand like that around mine. He is going to scratch the hell out of me.
Does this also apply to desert iguanas, because i am thinking of getting one?
I read somewhere that iguanas can't process dietary d3, they can only synthesize it. Gonna do more research to find out for sure.
Great video :) but next couple videos about care for the reptiles. Can you actually set up the tank. I think you make really cool looking tanks and gives me more ideas for future tanks ! Thanks
Is there a place where i can get an Iguana? i wanna get one but here in maryland dont know where to get one
Need more info, because im planing to have an iguana.
lllreptile i saw on your web site you made a store in vegas and i live there do you have green iguanas to sell there i plan on getting one for my brother since hes moving out and he wanted one but busy with work and he researched alot for them
when using this kit do u need a thermostat or do u just switch on and of
whats better for an iguana a open air Terrain or glass terrain?
Can someone help me. I’m having a hard time with my baby iguana lighting. I have a 100watt bulb in but it reaches a max of 86 degrees on the basking side. I was thinking about using a 150 but I don’t know if it’ll be to much she loves climbing so she climbed on a vine that’s probably 8inch from her basking light
I would love to own an iguana! But I live in NC and I'm not sure how or where I could put an enclosure for one. It gets pretty cold here :(
Delaney Reyes yes I used to live by The Canadian border but I moved to Texas and there’s geckos and lizards running around everywhere it’s beautiful here and at the carnivals I won my iguana I felt so bad for it I had to get it.
I love iguanas, favourite reptile :)
Whats your largest size reptarium, also he isnt gonna be able to really tare through the mesh right?
Hey i have a baby green iguana and im wondering how early can i House him outside? And how often should i mist him if thé temp is between 80 and 90 degrees?
Can i ask a question why are Bearded Dragon so exspensive then Iguanas?
How about naming it Juan or Juana (depending on whether it's male or female). When I think of Iguana's I always think of Mexico, as I traveled there once to a jungle region and there were all sorts of wild ones in the trees there!
Can you please make the full package for the iguana please the package that is on the web site package please
A question: what if i cant give a sun bath to my iguana every week, what would happen? I also have a problem with the humidity, it stays about 50% to 60%...I have a mini waterfall inside the terrarium and i thougth it would solve the problem, but it didn`t...=S You have any advice?
I just got my iguana and it doesnt want to move or eat, what do i do?
Carina Cordoba how big is it/ it's cage?
if i build a large cage for the iguana and will last till it is an adult. Will it be stressed out when it is a baby because the cage is too large?
Bill
i really want a moniter or a big lizard what would be a good beginner choice
so I rescued an iguana a few days ago. all I have so far is a 75 watt heat lamp with a brand new 75 watt reptile bulb, bowl, food and branches to climb on along with her 40 gal tank. What would be my next steps to getting her set up right? She's already super tame and eats food from your hand. I'm also worried cause I havnt seen her go Into or drink water and shes sleeping alot but I have been spraying down her and the cage once a day. Could it be cause she's shedding? thanks for any and all advise :)
it is rare to see iguanas drinking water and if your that worried spray the food with water then he will be hydrated
Oh ok that's good to know. I have been spraying food :)
Hey me too u have everything i got how big is she now it shows u posted this 3 months ago
i ended up having to find him a new home :( he turned very violent for no reason >
