I was issued with a wooden truncheon, a smaller version of what you’ve made here, when I joined the police in the UK (a very long time ago…). Of course modernity came along and they were replaced by friction-lock batons and so on…but when I retired a wood turning colleague made me one as a retirement gift and it now has pride of place in my display cabinet. A good little film, thank you.

Wow..I was always wondering how you were tough enough to enter the streets without a gun on your hips. I served as a policemean from 1985 in Berlin West. Living in Spandau I was surrounded by britsih barracks and a met lots of Tommys in wash centers and Pubs. I assume you had not have a gun problem in the seventies and eighties as we have it now, but you must have been very couraged to leave your station without firearms.

Amazing job! I haven’t seen burning the glue before. I have to echo woottootzoot’s comment. Stumpy nubs showed that his hand got so damaged and the swelling was instant that he had to get his ring sawn off of his finger so he didn’t lose the finger. Please remove all metal. You just need your tool to snap back once, crack your finger or hand hard and the swelling could happen too fast to get the rings off. God Bless you!!! We care and want to enjoy years of safe videos with you. 🙏🙏🙏

    Good morning, Brother.
Watching videos like this gives me and many others, the opportunity to walk into other's shop. Experience the process of their project. Tools used, thoughts, unexpected issues and the excitement of looking at the finished piece. As if I was standing there too. The wood used for your 'thumpers' was a great choice and looks amazing. Making something for a friend adds another level of excitement. I appreciate your 'tailgate witness.'
    God Bless

I love watching these videos. Always surprised at the endings. I really had no idea what a thumper was. When it started to take shape, I thought it was some kind of weird baseball bat. Lol. But the explanation made sense. Now I can see why you wouldn't want to use soft pine for this. I could see them used for more than "checking tires." A real "intimidator" if you needed one. Anyway, it was a great project with awesome grain in that darker wood.

I used to have a small one that looked more like a miniature baseball bat. My truck driving uncle called it a tire buddy. I kept it in between my driver side door and the seat.

Somehow, I have a feeling that those "Thumpers" would be handy for thumping a bit more than tires...

I have seen truckers thump the tires, but I did not know it was about hearing the tone. I supposed it was about the bounce. Thanks.

Thumper huh, interesting name. My Dad was a trucker his Fish Bat looked less like a short night stick. More like a cavemans club , short but very thick, on the business end.
    Good project. Thanks

I was wondering what a 'thumper' was. Here in Scotland, we used something similar to dispatch salmon that we had caught in the nets.

    • @RHumphrey
      @RHumphrey  5 месяцев назад

Yep, same idea exactly. Multi-purpose tool. What do you call them in Scotland?

Thump the duallies looking for a thud. A flat on one can cause the others to overheat and go flat too because of the extra weight load on them.

Yes Sir, the black epoxy to shove in that hole might have been done w/ .....Hmmm, after you used the "thumper" it could be a
self filling experience? I had to be careful as not to get an "error" for the post. Hard to say what get's ya flagged on-line now?
I like watching people turning projects, wood, metals, or even seeing a tree stump spun into a part for a table. peace

Yeah well, so you agreed that a "self filling experience" was the sweet spot? I had a slew of words hitting my brain
but I wanted to let your "Thumper" do all of that...... Woah, I'm very bad & you're right about any video nowadays
might get you an "Error" or a swat team visit? Hell, ain't no telling who's gonna be "Offended" but there's one
more reason for the "THUMPER"?? Nive work, by the way & thanks for all the fun down here. peace

I was thinking more along the lines of,
Muad'Dib is wise in the ways of the desert. Muad'Dib creates his own water. Muad'Dib hides from the sun and travels in the cool night. Muad'Dib is fruitful and multiplies over the land. Muad'Dib we call 'instructor-of-boys.' That is a powerful base on which to build your life, Paul-Muad'Dib.
