One of the aspects of the Tempest that make it so great is the 2,450 hp, Napier Sabre IIB H-24 liquid-cooled sleeve-valve piston engine.
Propellers were a 4-bladed de Havilland Hydromatic.
The Tempest's Quad 20mm Auto-Cannons make short work of EVERYTHING!

The Tempest was the chief destroyer of the V1 buzz bombs in late 1944.
One of the few aircraft that could actually catch one in level flight, its big gun battery helped the pilots stay clear of the V1's detonating after being hit.

Best kills I've seen in "IL-2". Most of mine just lose wings, either one or both, or flat spin to their death. Never had one explode, as engines do in "Rise of Flight".

Primary difference in Tempest vs typhoon was wing being much thinner and a different profile and having the spitfire style rounded rear surface which gave it very good stall characteristics.... So not only did the Tempest have a new wing but also bigger propeller and longer rear fuselage and bigger vertical tail surfaces... So the Tempest was not only a fast boom n zoom fighter but it was a very capable dogfighter as well

Read a few pilot biographies who flew the Tempest - they reckoned it was the best allied fighter below 20,000 feet. I recall one incident where an RAF pilot was bounced by a P47 who mistook him for a German...He dodged the fire and then proceeded to get on the tail of the P47 and fired either side of it and stuck to him for some time. The P47 couldn't do a thing and the pilot was terrified.

OMG. Tempest in the Battle of Britain, casually eating Bf 109E's, Bf 110C's, and He-111H's for lunch. Slaughter!

By the end of WW2 the fighters had become brutal, particularly the Me 262 and the Tempest but the Corsair was not far behind!

I didn't know much about the airplanes of WW2 but each time I thought you showcased the coolest one, you bring out something even better. After you videos I go and read up on as much as I can about these incredible machines. Also the way they fought in these times, just a huge ball of planes zipping each and every way is so much more chaotic than the surgical precision of modern air to air combat. That chaos definitely makes it more entertaining.
