    glad to see that anderson has upgraded the frame. we had one of the older frames, its welds failed, the trailer fell on the tailgate & pickup bed, yes it cost almost money to repair our pickup as to repair our trailer. we liver full time in our 5th wheel, it cost us some more to live out of our trailer while it was being repaired.

    Good video on the Andersen Hitch. I have been using it for 1 year myself with about 15k miles. I actually made the decision to move to position 2 because I did not have enough clearance to prevent the pin box from striking the side rail of the truck. I also have an 8 foot bed and have had to make some tight turns and learned to keep an eye on it. Gordon & Alice

    Dealer installed my hitch, towed new rv home 45 miles… noticed hitch had rotated 1/2”… I re torqued top bolt and set bolts to 60 ft lbs….
    They make a taller hitch for trucks with taller bed rails.
    If you have a bedliner or mat under the hitch I would consider a longer top bolt to be sure you are getting full nut embedment into the inner sleeve….. (the ball and sleeve are at a fixed height. A mat or bedliner will raise the hitch about a 1/2” creating a longer reach for the top bolt to the nut in the top of the sleeve

    • @WhyWait

      That’s too bad. I know Andersen backs up their product up to like a half a million dollars I believe if there’s ever any damage to the RV that’s caused by the hitch. No I don’t worry about it. Anything is possible though. I believe every hitch has its pros and cons and weak areas. • @WhyWait
      @WhyWait  3 года назад +1

      Hey Scott. A torque wrench is a very precise tool that requires care. Never drop a torque wrench, always unload it before storing and never use it to break a bolt. Although you could and chances are it might still be ok but any of these things plus others can possibly mess up it’s calibration. Check out the link below, it’s a good article on torque wrenches. Some good info in there.

      That’s odd, in the instructions for my Anderson, it says 40 for the front two bolts and 50 for the top, I think I’ll check with Anderson on that, I can say when we were traveling with our trailer, (it’s about 13,500 lbs) at 60 mph a dumbo did a uturn in front of us, the truck and trailers wheels all locked up as I avoided killing the person, I felt the hitch handled it well.

    Had an idiot pull out infront of me while towing around 60mph. Locked the breaks up and almost pooped my pants but there was no damage to hitch or trailer. I was sold .

      Nice. I will say after three years of towing with it full time I’ve been fortunate enough to where I haven’t had to test it’s ability to hold up in a situation like that. Appreciate you watching 👍🏼

    There are several pictures on the internet that show this hitch completely failing and the trailer ramming into the back of the truck. Very dangerous situation. One was a sudden stop going 10 MPH and the other was a sudden stop at 40 MPH. I am thinking about buying a used RV and Truck that have the Anderson Ultimate hitch from around 2019. I am quite worried about this. Hope you guys can give me some good advice. Thanks

      A video is out where a guy had a machine shop fabricate the top-ball out of heavy duty steel. He's claiming the aluminum ball can snap or reports of this has been happening.

    I didn’t know you could use these with a plastic bed liner is it recommended from Andersen? I have been looking a different kinds of hitches to use with my liner.

    • @WhyWait
      @WhyWait  Год назад

      Sure can! You can use it no problem although I do recommend getting the rubber mat from Andersen that they sell to go under the hitch. Wether you have a plastic liner, spray in liner or just metal bed the rubber mat keeps the hitch from moving a bit. Many people I know no matter what type of bed they had reported the hitch turning just a few degrees after a long day of towing. Mine did too, it’s not a problem but something the rubber mat stopped from happening. 👍🏼

    Did you need to use the Anderson toolbox version to be able to fit your toolbox in the bed of your truck?

    • @WhyWait
      @WhyWait  3 года назад

      Not on my 8 foot long bed truck. I have just the regular Andersen Hitch. Maybe for a short bed truck you might need to.

    Do you have issues with chucking and or rocking? I have read a few posts on the internet with that problem the same with Pullrite Superlite gooseneck hitches.

    • @WhyWait
      @WhyWait  Год назад

      No not at all. When I had the Andersen there was no chucking or bucking, very smooth quiet ride vs a traditional fifth wheel hitch. Now I use the Reese Goosebox, same concept and for me it’s the only way to go.

    How noisy is it? Also what do you think of air ride hitches? Worth it or B.S.?

    • @WhyWait
      @WhyWait  2 года назад

      It’s not noisy at all that’s what’s great. No chucking or bucking like traditional hitches since it is basically a funnel riding on a ball. Similar to a gooseneck setup. Can’t give an honest opinion on air ride hitches since I’ve never used one. Really haven’t talked to anybody who has one either to see their thoughts. Thanks for watching. 😊

    These hitches are junk! Rv transporters can no longer use them. When they fail under heavy breaking its a catastrophic failure.

    Sorry dude but youre wrong on torque specs... Its 60 and 60 per the install manual.
    2-3. Using a 15/16” socket wrench, tighten the top
    bolt of the square coupler to 60 ft-lbs of torque.
    This will ensure that the coupler is pulling up
    on the gooseneck ball and holding the Ultimate
    Connection firmly to the bed of the truck.
    2-4. Using a 15/16” socket wrench, tighten the two
    coupler tube set bolts to approximately 60 ft-lbs of
    torque to take out any play in the tube
    this is strait from the manual.

    • @WhyWait
      @WhyWait  2 года назад +1

      Thanks and I know it’s 60 and 60. I just misspoke filming it and didn’t catch it. Pretty sure I had 40 on my mind thinking about the torque specs for the coupler which are 40👍🏼

    One thing I dont like about the anderson, the load is being transferred to the truck bed. The bed isn't rated for such a load. All fifth wheel frames or gooseneck balls transfer ALL the weight directly to the frame. I will stick with my fifth wheel setup....Just my opinion

    • @WhyWait
      @WhyWait  2 года назад

      It’s a mistake i made while talking, I do torque them to 60, I had 40 in my head at the time thinking about the set screws on the funnel part that get torqued to 40 on the kingpin.
