    The one thing I would add, is that the goose neck hitch allows more room to get in steeper driveways that might cause the truck and trailer to pivot to a point that could cause the bottom of the fifth wheel to hit the top of the bed. The ball on top of the gooseneck can be lowered or lifted to allow for this scenario. I’ve been using this hitch for many years and have nothing but good things to say. And I have taken it everywhere imaginable. My truck, a 1998 dodge Cummins 2500, handles extremely well with this hitch. Great review. Thanks.

    New to 5th wheels and am deciding which hitch to use. This video and comments are exactly what I needed to see to make my decision. it is a bit scary relying on an aluminum frame but I'm okay now after seeing this. I'm too old to be wrestling with a heavy steel hitch being taken in and out of the bed and was going to settle for leaving a hitch in the bed all the time. Thanks for the excellent video.

    We love and trust our Anderson hitch. We had a Demco auto slide as our first hitch, it was huge and very heavy, weighing in at 375 pounds. It not only took up a large amount of bed space, it was impossible to remove it without taking it apart, so it stayed in the bed all the time. Our tow vehicle is a Ram DRW 3500 Limited Mega cab with the 6.5 foot bed, with all the bells and whistles for towing. We tow a bighorn 3870 FB which weighs in at just under 16,000 pounds. We switched the coupler to be reversed, so we had better bed rail clearance. We can still get a 80 degree turn in before the cap of the trailer gets to close to the bed and I start panicking. The hitch is very quiet when towing and I love the weight saving and the ease of taking it out when it it not needed for towing. We have towed back and forth between our home in Colorado and our winter place in Florida. Tows like a dream and we have had no issues with it and plan on keeping it in use.
    We do torque the bolts down before every trip. I like putting all the weight down on the hitch and ball and torquing the bolts down at that time. That takes up any slack on the hitch with the weight pushing down. I got this tip from Andersen; as I was getting a little walk around by the hitch base and now I don’t.
    We get mixed reviews from other RVers on the hitch, but I have seen hundreds of Andersen hitch’s in our travels and no one has had an issue with them. I’ve seen people post stories and pictures of Andersen hitch’s broken, mostly from accidents, but I have seen way more broken conventional 5th wheel hitch’s. If it’s going to break it doesn’t matter what you have.

      Thank you for the detailed review. We have enjoyed our hitch as well. It is a great suggestion to hook up to your camper and then re-torque the bolts. We do that as well. Safe travels and happy camping!

    I bought my first 5th wheel and installed the Anderson hitch after a lot of research and I couldn't be happier. No bucking and chucking. You can hitch at a 45 degree angle. Easy and light to remove. After taking a tour of the Genesis Factory and seeing the owner's tow vehicle with an Anderson Hitch in her truck, I was sure this was the right decision.

    We had a travel trailer for several years, and this fall decided to upgrade to a new fifth-wheel. My tow vehicle is a 2018 Ford F-250 PowerStroke, and we purchased the Andersen Ultimate 5th Wheel hitch from our 5th wheel dealer. We’ve only used it two times, but so far we like it just fine. Very smooth on the road, easy to maneuver, and for sure, the light weight and ease of installing and removing are a big plus. I know there are many great 5th wheel hitches out there, but for us, the Andersen hitch fits our set up perfectly. Thanks for the great video!

    We've had the Anderson hitch for about six months. It was recommended by the rv dealer where we purchased our outdoors rv travel trailer. I've towed six times so far and really love the hitch. Install and removal is a breeze and when not in use the hitch stores in the front compartment of the trailer. I'm glad I took the dealer's advice and went with the anderson over a slider. The truck it is installed in is a 2017 3/4 ton Ram with a 6 ft. 4 in bed and I have had 0 problems with turning radious.

      I bought my rig last year, the previous owner included both the Anderson and standard hitches. He like the Anderson and that how he had it set up when I picked it up. Have never traded the standard, so I’m curious for a couple of reason. 1 being the easing up backing up and latching on. The Anderson requires a second person to spot me. Especially if my Honda generator is in the bed. Anyone have that experience?

    I bought one after watching this and it is fantastic. Our farm truck has a permanent goose neck because all of the farm equipment is goose neck. But the price was too good on the 5th wheel.
    But this is great. We toss it in when needed to haul the RV then it comes out for the cattle haulers to be hooked up.

    Great review. I have about 20,000 miles on my Anderson Hitch without a single problem! I bought mine in 2010 and towed a triple axle toy hauler across the county with it. We now have a 28 foot toyhauler and I still love this hitch. I have been able to hook and un-hook in some pretty odd places and the Hitch allows different angles to land in. I love that it is aluminum and does not rust! At all! Thanks for you review I hope RV'ers see it.

    Seriously? Why did this video wait so long to show up in my searches? I've been agonizing over a hitch decision for over a week. LOL I had no idea this would be the hardest decision when I decided to upgrade from a travel trailer to a fifth wheel. I had finally made up my mind to go with the PullRite SuperGlide automatic despite it being 180 lbs (I'd resigned myself to simply losing use of my truck bed). You've put together one of the most comprehensive videos that covers pretty much every issue/concern I've had. I love the safety chains (I didn't even know that was an option). I know they aren't required in all states, but they give me peace of mind. My understanding is that the biggest safety concern with Andersen was the hard stop/collapse--and that's been corrected, I believe. Thank you so much for the video that didn't ramble endlessly and still not address the main points. I'm off to your homepage to see if you've reviewed mattresses for RV's. Have a great day!

      Thank you so much for the awesome comment! Hello yet again! I watched the video one more time (okay, let's be honest, I've watched it more than twice and have saved it for easy access--lol. You mentioned that the ball on the hitch could go up one more notch. Would that alleviate the problem you mention with turning and the concern of the pinbox hitting the sides of your truck? The only real complaint I've heard consistently about the Andersen is that people have said they have to raise the landing gear so high to get the funnel above the ball. Is this why you keep the ball in the middle hole? My truck is 4WD, so it's already a bit higher. Based on your experience, do you think this could be a problem? Thank you!

    ULTIMATE CONNECTION ROTA-FLEX "LOCKOUT" KIT
    Part #: 3247
    This helps to prevent damage to the hitch and/or tow vehicle. It also keeps the rubber pad in your Rota-Flex pin box from shifting over time. We've had our 5th-wheel home for 3.5 months with this setup and are very pleased with the overall performance. It's great going down the road knowing your load is secure.

    Great review as I have been searching for a hitch that is easy to remove and get my truck bed back but at the same time allows me to turn into tight locations. Particularly my own driveway which is one of my tightness turns. I have an Air Ride pin box with a Pullright slider. That pull-right is a back breaker and although a nice piece of equipment it is extremely heavy and needs my forklift to get it out of the truck. I like to be able to spend about 10 minutes removing the Anderson hitch and doesn't break my back and give me my truck bed back. Well done review and thank you.

    I have the Anderson hitch and love it. I have a Silverado 2500HD and I pull a 42' Sabre fifth wheel. I selected the hitch for the same reason you did. I want to be able to use the bed of my truck. The only problem that I have had is that in backing, I can hit the rear window of the truck. I found that out the hard way. I also can hit the bed rail pretty easily, but that hasn't been a huge problem. The dealer mounted my pin cable on the left bottom side of the kingpin assembly. It actually would hit the bed rail easily. I removed it and moved it to the underside of the kingpin assembly and instead of screws, I used rare earth magnets to hold it. It will move around some but will not come off without a pretty heavy pull. I do like where you mounted your cable. I may try that.

    Fantastic teacher very simple and to the point...Love it. I too have an Anderson hitch I allowed the mechanic to install and I forgot how to remove so this was fantastic. I did have to raise my ball to the top setting it did touch my side rails but did very little damage thank God! Only an expert would see it. The ride is far better than any hitch system. Check Craigslist because a used one is as low as $200 where new is 1K and they last forever.

    All the folks worried about it being Aluminum might consider that the next time they are sipping their drink at 30,000 feet in that aluminum tube. The cylinder heads, pistons, and drive shaft on that truck may also be aluminum, I say worry about something important.

    Hi This is Richard I have an older model it is about 4.5 years old. It works great. When first used it I did turn too far and dent the cab of my 2013 F-350 but have not had any trouble since. your video was great. My Anderson is a steel one. When I purchased mine it did not come with the nylon centering block, But I did just order one.

Used it several times and love it. easy to hookup and easy to unhook. as for the pin box, right now I have it turning from the hitch ball but I got the pin box that I can lock onto the ball and have the RV pivot from the pin which would be best if I need to make a tight turn and won't have to worry about the pin box hitting he inside of the bed. again love this ANDERSEN Hitch.

      @@TodayisanAdventureDay. We have done a ton of online and RUclips research. It looks like a 35 foot to 37 foot would be perfect for my wife and I. Our favorites are the Grand Design Solitude (310GK or 344GK), Keystone Montana (3120RL) or Keystone Montana High Country (330RL). We need to travel to Eugene Oregon (90 minutes away) where all of these are in stock and devote most of a day to really settle on which we like the most. I do best when I san live with information for a while and chew on it, so I hope to do that in the next week or two. We'd like to be ready to make some decisions when we have a buyer for our place.
      Our current plan is to sell the 5th wheel after the house is built, but I have a feeling that we may enjoy it too much to sell it We have had an Arctic Fox camper for the past 10 years (since we often pull a boat or an ATV trailer), but I think the 5th wheel will spoil us. :)

    • @TodayisanAdventureDay
      @TodayisanAdventureDay  4 года назад +1

      Those are great fifth-wheel options. Although we really like our Montana High Country 305RL, we actually prefer the 330RL because the main windows are on the other side. I think that is a great unit. We also really love the Grand Design Solitudes. You won't make a poor choice with the units you have listed. I hope you have a blast and enjoy it as much as we do. We recently posted a video of ten things we learned after our first year. You might enjoy that one as well. :)

    I have not read all the comments, so maybe someone has mentioned this already. Based on the install videos I have watched, you have the part that connects to your trailer installed in the wider bed configuration. By rotating the red part, you would gain clearance inside your bed.

    • @TodayisanAdventureDay
      @TodayisanAdventureDay  Год назад

      Thanks, KC. You are correct that you can install the red receiver block in two positions. I have (actually "had" since we have since sold our rig) in the forward position which gives more space between the camper cap and truck cabin. If the red block was rotated the other way, then the red block receiving cone is pushed backward which pulls the trailer closer to the cabin.

    My parents opted for this hitch system and had an issue with clearance between the bed sides and the pin box, my dad actually crunched his tonneau cover track on a tight turn with the coupler adapter in the forward facing position. We flipped it around and have had no issues since, even when he tows his side by side trailer behind the 5th wheel. He loves his anderson and when my wife and I upgrade to a 5th Wheel we will be hard pressed to choose between the anderson and the reese goosebox.
