I love my Anderson Hitch. Worked unbelievably well with My 2021 F350 short bed even with a bakflip tonneau cover and a aux fuel tank. I now have it in my 2022 F350 long bed. 15K miles and smooth as silk. Great video and info! Towing a 20K Redwood 37" fith wheel. SOOO easy to remove, and replace. 5 min tops and really light
I have personally owned this hitch for five years, tow a a fuzion 44 foot in crossed this country several times, never had a issue with it and would absolutely recommend it.

I used this setup for years and was very pleased, but ordered our newer 5th wheel with the Reese Goosebox, its even better just because you dont have anything else in the bed.
We just bought a 2022 Grand Design Fifth Wheel and after a lot of research installed the Anderson Ultimate Hitch. The ease of the hitching / unhitching, and the ride home was fantastic. I have a Ford F350 with the 8-foot bed and had the Fifth Wheel OEM package already installed. I have a 27-foot Gooseneck horse trailer and the feel of the trailer behind me (while using the Anderson hitch) is very similar...almost not there. We also had the safety chains added. You can't have enough safety when towing. Thanks for the video!!
We couldn't believe the ride difference with the Anderson hitch. Super smooth and no more clunking! It's very impressive. And I love that I can load and unload it easily. Congrats on the new Grand Design 5th wheel. Which model did you choose?
I have a 2024 Chevy 2500. I had a hitch company install my b&w goose neck ball in because I didn’t have 5th wheel prep. They are a very experienced company and do at least 6 a day. My ball is like 5-6” give or take behind back axel. I have the Anderson and that gonna knock it back a few more inches. So the only way I think my application is going to work is if I move the red coupler towards the back. The company told me that’s how they install it on the new Chevys with 6 3/4” bed.
I've had an Andersen hitch for 9 months and towed about 3k miles. Satisfied with it. One note. After putting weight on the hitch, retighten top bolt. A little compression occurs with 3k pounds of weight on the hitch. Helpful to loosen side bolts when doing so
Excellent tip, Ray. I did that same thing. I let the weight of the camper sit fully on the hitch, then loosed the two bolts and tightened the top bolt back down. Then I tightened the two front bolts. It’s a really easy-to-use system. Even though it does require using a tool (torque wrench and sockets), it’s an easy process. Thanks for watching and leaving the comment!

We've taken several long trips across the country to Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, Wisconsin Dells, Nashville, and the New England states with the camper. Very thorough video. A point of caution with the safety chain system, the type of eye nuts used where the chains attach to the pin box aren't designed to be loaded laterally. They aren't recommended to be loaded past 45 degrees.
Interesting! So you're saying that from an engineering perspective, they're designed to have the pull force pulling straight against the bolt (outward from the hitch right or left), rather than forward? Thanks for sharing.

Hi Dave, I’m glad you brought this up. I actually measured several times. Yes, if I flipped the funnel around toward the front, I would have more clearance between the tailgate and the camper. BUT - my kingpin box is a long one, so if the funnel was forward, I would actually make contact between the back of that kingpin box and the tailgate when it’s in the up position, and I would make contact with my side bed rails when turning. I’m really glad the Andersen system provides instructions on how to measure everything to determine which direction to face the funnel based on your truck and the length of that kingpin box. Excellent video, you covered all the details with detail, maybe too well. Your video got me thinking why the Anderson solution, I understand it is lighter than the traditional fifth-wheel hitch making it bearable for those that move the hitch in and out often. Installing the Anderson in the bed is a considerable effort compared to using the Reese Goosebox. With the Goosebox solution, one needs only to install the gooseneck ball in the truck bed. The Goosebox and the Anderson are about the same cost and there is no need to store a hitch platform when not installed on the tow vehicle. My plans are, when the time comes to replace my tow vehicle, I am going with a long bed and the Goosebox. Right now I run an auto-slider fifth-wheel hitch to avoid (more) cab/cap collisions :(

It does look like a nice solution also. My first concerns with it (again, I've never actually used it - just done some research in the forums) is that the airbag could lose pressure over time or in climate changes/elevation changes, and the trailer could change height in the bed of my truck. It also looks like it could keep me from making as tight of turns as the Anderson Ultimate Raised hitch allows. I would be interested in testing one out though so that I could experience another type of 5th wheel hitch! Sometimes you never know until you try. You'll see future videos of towing with this Anderson Ultimate (Raised version). It really is an amazing system. So light weight, quiet, and it actually allows me to properly adjust the height of the ball to keep my bedrails away from the 5th wheel.
I purchased my Andersen Ultimate from a neighbor. Having the turnover ball gooseneck installed in my 2016 F250 longbed next week. So, there is a lot I don't know, or didn't know until watching this video. Thank you for answering so many questions I had, and some I didn't, in perfect detail. The only aspect that I didn't hear about in this video was the height adjustment of the kingpin on the RV. When would that need to be adjusted?

@@PurpleCollarLife I had the rolling Rigid box set, including the little one that you showed in the video. Used them for about 10 years hauling my tools around the gas fields out west. My pickup had a topper but it didn't keep out much of the dust from those oil field roads but the gasket on these Rigid boxes worked great.

Word of caution on the newer trucks 2020 and newer you need the 3217 - I am new to rv’s and the dealer insisted that the3220 hitch would work on my 2021 Gmc DeNnali and it won’t-side rails are to high --
Thanks for the comment. When I called Andersen, the 3217 Ultimate RAISED hitch was exactly the one they recommended for our new F-350 Super Duty. Like you say, the side rails are high.
Do you have issues with excessive chucking? I have read a number of entries in some forums about the chucking issue and do not have an actual solution?
I've had zero issues with chucking. I feel like the Andersen eliminates the chucking that I'm used to from a traditional 5th wheel hitch. What type of movement are you feeling?
It’s actually not bad. It does ride like a truck - especially with 80 psi in the rear tires and 65 psi in the fronts. But it’s quiet and smooth on nice roads. Now once you get on a bad (really bumpy with lots of potholes or tar strips) road, you do feel those bumps.
I'm not exactly sure. I know the one's I've seen all are the puck system gooseneck ball setup. Andersen is great at answering questions. I'm sure if you give them a call, they can help you determine if it will work safely with your setup. Thanks for watching!

Yes it does that’s what I’m using it on. Our 2001 Chevrolet 3500 has the plate with the ball welded to it mounted and I use the Anderson ultimate as shown in this video. No problem’s
Thanks for watching. Thankfully - we did get the tall version of the hitch. So that’s about as tall as it goes. I do think the ball has one more adjustment height up - but we’ve never hit the bed rails on the trailer with this Andersen raised hitch.
I've had a chance to use one of these, which was ok, but after experience with a Reese goosebox, these types of hitches make zero sense. I don't trust aluminum to hold up to impacts from the road or accidents. The Reese goose box is not only much more convenient, but definitely stronger by a long shot.
I’ve personally never tried the Reese goose box. But I feel like it would put pulling pressure (torque) the wrong way against the front of the trailer frame. I’d need to do more research and try it. Like I said, I don’t know that much about that system. We don’t have a ton of experience with the Andersen Ultimate hitch so far, but our experience has been great to this point. @@PurpleCollarLife the Reese goosebox is certified by trailer manufacturers, and doesn't void warranty. The absolute best part of this setup, is you never move anything, or loose precious bed space. Bolt it to the trailer and it stays there. Only thing is to drop or raise the ball in the bed, and make sure the tail gate is down before hooking up. Super easy, but a bit spendy. About $2k or so. I don't see why I would ever go back to rails, conventional 5th wheel sliders or this unit demonstrated here. If you upgrade, you'll see why I recommend it over anything else by far. It not only eliminated chucking, but the bags on it are adjustable and make for one smooth ride. Your first experience with one will have you smiling all the way. It's an investment like anything, but in my opinion, it's in the top 3 upgrades, next to shocks and good tires on the trailer, and a wet bolt kit. All of which adds safety and convenience, big time. Nice tow rig btw, those new superduty's are so darn capable, ride well, and they look really nice..
Not sure what you didn’t see. We show this kingpin attachment in detail at Arline 9:30 with explanation and detail about orientation for different trucks and trailers.
To make it be safer and work the right way right way is to take it interesting hitch yeah it's hooked to a 5th wheel goose Nick ball but for it from keep on rocking back-and-forth after a while we're gonna try to work itself loose it's the security the square part of the Anderson hates but sits on the bed and anchor through the bed bed then it will work a lot safer and a lot better than you don't after a while you don't hear a rocking sound where those plates start bending from the 5th wheel trailer jerking on it back-and-forth that's what Anderson didn't think of when they built that yeah it's something better Give you a lot more room in the bed this throat stuff in but for something supposed to be safer and quicker Vida bessing Andersen and smartest thing that they could do yeah it's a little more of process but it won't have to sit there and keep on replacing giving people brand new fucking Internet shit hitches but you didn't understand hitches after your sister starts bending his sheet out of the plate

Unless things have changed, the Anderson Hitch is around half the cost or more of the Goosebox I believe, and that's the lower 16k version.
WE have a Ford f250. Turn your coupler around facing forward . It will give you give you more room when tail gate is down. Ours is with a 6.5 bed

They're torqued and just put pressure against the plate. That pressure keeps it from turning.

That isn't a 5th wheel hitch
It's definitely not a traditional or conventional 5th wheel hitch. But it does a nice job connecting our 5th wheel RV to our truck.

I guess I’m not sure what you’re saying. Back up partially beyond the kingpin then close the tailgate?
@PurpleCollarLife back in til the kingpin clears your tailgate, get out and close the tailgate, then backup til the kingpin is hooked.
