I believe that this is the only Vampire Western made in the USA. I have it on DVD and watch it once a month. Many years ago I saw a couple of Vampire Westerns in Spain. They were very good also. For those of you who don't remember Michael Pate, he was a very prolific and successful actor, producer and director.
There's a Spanish version of the Universal Studios Dracula (1931) that was filmed back to back with Bela Lugosi's portrayal. Same scenery, same sets, same script. But, I love Bela's best.
I always thought that Coppola's Dracula was so fantastic because it portrayed the vampire as a creature wanting love. When Coppola's Dracula did not want to bite Mina because of love, I thought that was so unique. But I see this movie used that theme many decades before. GREAT MOVIE! Thank you!
Watch ‘Vamp’. The Russians know how to make sci-fi and supernatural movies. A lot have subtitles which are easy to follow or dubbed in which you can’t tell the difference. Please try. ❤️🇨🇦
Glenn, I've always loved a good love story. When Bram Stoker penned Dracula, he had no romantic notions in mind. Hollywood spun the romantic storyline of Mina being the reincarnation of his beloved wife, Elizabeta. You know the story behind that. So, Prince Vlad became a cursed man only wanting to be reunited in love, and death, with his "wife". Here, Drake is a gunslinger, who is broken hearted also. There's the romantic connotation. But, most vampires only have one love❣️They are still, only evil.
In 1979 Michael Pate adapted the screenplay for the Australian film "Tim" starring Peper Laurie and Mell Gibson. I vaguely remember I saw "Tim" in the very early 80's but only once. It was the first film I ever saw with Mel Gibson. Pate was Australian and had a big career in film actin as well as directing and producing many films and television series
Nice to read more info about Michael Pate. Never knew he was Australian. This was the first movie I'd ever seen of his and it made me an instant fan. Another movie starring him is Tower of London, a historical drama about Richard III, also starring Vincent Price
@@yvonnepeltier9815 T.O.L was a re-make from the earlier version starring Lon Chaney, Sr. The original version is considered a lost film and apparantly no known copy of it exists(?)
@yvonnepeltier9815 ...He was also very good in Hondo...as Vittorio the chief Indian. It's a John Wayne movie. Pate had always wanted to play an Indian. He did a damn fine job.
I can't believe I never saw this movie, it was a great Film, I really enjoyed it very much, 3 things that bothered me about this movie. 1. Why was Drake able to walk around in the Daylight. 2. A Vampire is not supose to enter someones home unless he was invited into their home and 3. I Don't know how Dan was able to kill Drake with a Bullet that didn't even penetrate his skin, if you notice Dan pulled the bullet out of Drakes Vest, plus even if the Bullet was Silver, its a werewolf that dies with a Silver Bullet, not a Vampire. But all in all It was a great movie, I really enjoyed it. I give it 5 Stars.
1) Some of the Hammer Films had vamps that could go in daylight (Mircalla in "the Vampire Lovers" and "Lust For A Vampire") could. 2) True, but some only needed interest from their victims to go in uninvited. 3) The lapel pin the preacher wore has the wooden cross (that had been carved from a thorn from the Crucifixion) attached to the tip of the bullet. It didn't need to go into Drake's body to destroy him. Only piercing his vest was enough.
For a low-budget flick, this isn't bad, even though it was intended as a joke by the screenwriters. Eric Fleming is the stalwart preacher, while Michael Pate plays the tortured vampire quite well. This was unusual back in the day, and low-budget or not, it set the tone for more modern Dracula interpretations. I won't say it's a classic, but it isn't dull.
Johnny, my name is John too, but I am sure you seen the Movie Dracula with Frank Langella, but I think that Vampire movie was probably the best Vampire film that actually stuck to the script that I have ever seen. I also love Werewolf films and I think the best one that was ever made and looked so genuinely good with great makeup was "Werewolf" with Anthony Hopkins.
seems like a conventional 50's western....then Robey shows up....been looking for this for years, seems like it slipped through the cracks....creepy as hell...
This was actually really good. I expected something cheap and full of cliches from two different genres; what I got was something intelligent and practically devoid of cliches from either one of these genres. Even the origin story harkens back to one of the pre-Stoker alternatives. And stylistically - an area in which it’s often difficult for old movies to hold up - intelligent, relatively cliche-free writing never goes out of style.
Un film étonnant un vampire dans un western il fallait bien continuer à faire des films de vampires. je possède ce film en DVD très intéressant et rare. Le cow boy vampire est tout en noir comme Vince Taylor le rockeur.
Remember this in my youth . Made an impression . One of those Stoker vampires where he actually can move through daylight only in a weaker form but he was still immortal until …..

Yes, by all rights, he shouldn't be able to because it's Hallowed ground. And, he shouldn't have been able to look upon the crosses in the graveyard either. But, that's Hollyweird for ya!
