Man, i have been twice to the imax now for this movie, there are so many details i want to discuss with you, one of my favourite scenes is the ai upgrade scene in the cryo chamber when andy reboots, the horror theme music and the face-hugger and all, just ahh!! So good! Anyway, i was so shocked by the ending when i first watched it (in a good way) because Fede did it in such a good way, i walked out the cinema like wtf just happend, but on my second watch i could focus so much on diffrent details, study what was going on in scenes in a diffrent way, i thought the movie was great the first time but it actually grew on me instantly the second time. this is now a classic for me, ah so many things i want to talk about. Anyway keep up the good work! Cant wait for a more detailed video!

This film was set in-between Alien 1 and 2 and took both the horror and tension from the first and some of the action from the second. It even included small tie-ins to Prometheus, which I loved as I liked them as spin-offs.

This film is all style over substance. Nothing more. And as time goes on the gaping plot holes will come forwards. Like:
The nostromo was vaporized because of the mineral ore (blast waves) so there wouldn't be wreckage.
The Big Chap doesn't make face huggers from its acid dna. Even if it was a overmorph it couldnt make 50 face huggers without a queen.
Black goo would need to have a viable reason to be in the face huggers.
The woman who injected herself with black goo wasnt in the room (she was in the hive) when rook told the others what it was. So her giving it to herself is stupid.
What is happening here is Ridley scott has been trying to cut the queen out of the life cycle for 3 films now with his black goo. And it has never made sense. Ever. And no matter how hard they try the black goo cannot replace the Queen.
I'm suprised by how Alien fans aren't raging at this all style over substance film.

    • @ENTERTAINtheDUDE
      @ENTERTAINtheDUDE  2 месяца назад +1

@@Fiorwestcoast I don't think we've ever had the goo explained to us well enough to know what it can and can't be extracted from, but I get your point, especially in regards to Ridley. Too many cooks in the kitchen over the years. There was a lot of convenience I realised but I still enjoyed it. Hindsight may play a factor over time so the more times I see it and can analyse the film and what it explores might make my feelings change. Scientifically, I don't even know how that Nostromo detonation would have worked. Contrary to popular belief, I know that if you detonate a nuke in space there is actually no explosion because there is no atmosphere to ignite, no particles etc, just gamma rays. I'm clueless as to how much debris would have remained. Probably not enough for a perfect Nostromo sign 😉

@@ENTERTAINtheDUDE Ridley was notorious for disliking the Queen I'm 1986. And when Prometheus was made the black goo wasn't thought out. It was just put there as a way of trying to explain the origins. When blomkamp came in with his film Ridley shut it down because it had a queen alien in it. And that's when he did covenant (with eggs in it and no queen) the studio realized covenant was a disaster financially and especially with Alien fans. I guarantee we will find out in time that fede had a queen Alien on romulus. They went to lv426 and picked up an egg or something like that. And Ridley came in and promised to fund the film but had changes he wanted. Fede punched a wall and kicked a door when he read the changes. Ridley has become the studio.
The black goo has ruined the franchise and Ridley is trying to keep himself from looking like an idiot.

@@Fiorwestcoast Ridley did joke about Fede punching a wall after being handed some notes haha! You make some great and very accurate points I have to say. The way I see it is, Ridley was there first and he had his own issues with the studio in terms of what couldn't be shown. The queen came later but that doesn't take away from the fact that the goo narrative was bodged and never thought through properly. I'm very interested to know what interactions took place between Cameron and Fede with their early conversations. Cameron made some off remarks about him and the film when recently asked about it but that's all gossip on clickbait sites anyways. Happy to hear you liked it too, and I agree with your overall take. Yeah the Prometheus audio cue was so misplaced, it actually took me out of it for a second. I know why they did it, but it was too form over function for my taste. As for the "GAFHYB" line from Aliens, that felt so forced, and I'm surprised Fede added it because surely it wasn't due to pressure from Scott, who to my knowledge has never shown Aliens much respect. There's no way Fede thought the hardcore fans (like himself) would not cringe at that? Perhaps it was the studio insisting on it. Strange decision either way.
That said, there was so much to like about this movie and I think the franchise is back for real now. I hope Fede directs the sequel, because he did a damn good job on this one, and we don’t need a new director to come in and try to be fancy. The technical framework we have now is pretty much perfect. All they should focus on for the sequel is a great storyline and cast. I wouldn’t even mind if they went the military route again tbh, but that should then be the ONLY thing it has in common with Aliens, please no more cheesy call backs, have the confidence to let your film stand completely on its own 🙏

There should have been more hiding and avoiding them that could have stressed the point they was being hunted. My second issue is I didn't like the hybrid at the end as they should have stayed true to the alien universe by unleashing another variation of xenomorph such as the ultramorph, I've seen others say it should be a pretorian which would have been great.

The world-building and overall look and feel of the movie were impressive, but unfortunately, that's where the praise ends for me. Aside from Andy and Rain, the rest of the characters were poorly developed and difficult to care about. Honestly, they were so irritating that I found myself just waiting for them to be killed off.
The decision to bring back a certain character was a huge misstep, made worse by some very questionable deepfake effects that already look outdated-and certainly won't age well over the next few years. The editing choices were disorienting, and reusing iconic lines from Aliens came across as cringeworthy and unnecessary. I actually lost count of how many times I found myself thinking, "This is so stupid," throughout the movie.
And to think, one of the reasons this franchise started to decline was because of Alien Resurrection's ridiculous ending with the "true born" hybrid. Yet here they are, repeating the same mistakes again. Why? The first two Alien films are beloved for their innovative blend of horror, science fiction, and intelligent storytelling. Alien Romulus is none of this.
I feel that some die-hard fans of the franchise are being overly generous in their praise, perhaps out of a desire to protect the series, but it's not going to help in the long run. I'm being generous with a 6.5/10, and it received good ratings and had a strong opening weekend at the box office thanks to clever marketing, which is not reflective of the movie. For me.. Visually it was Great.. aside from two more CGI scenes which were Hit/Miss.
The Characters i just never connected with them, this was Alien Covenant all over again... but the main Two Characters worked... and Rain was not as Anoying as Daniels.
The Remember Berries were ok... the visual connections/Aesthetic was Great..... but yes... some of the Lines taken from other Movies was just totally unnecessary.
    For me... kinda Spoiler...
I was expecting more Gore from Alvarez... and I felt the Pacing was off after 40 Min... it went flash in the pan like Alien Covenant after the Oram Chest Burster scene.
Overall its flawed and was trying to be a Love Letter to the Franchise which can have a negative impact on the Pace.
    Visually 9/10
    Audio 7/10
    Acting 7/10

@@ENTERTAINtheDUDE Yeah I think that Alvarez should have while on set... produced a long Short (10 Minutes or two say 5 Minute ones that could have been used in Marketing (scenes from The Colony) which could help us flesh out the Characters (like the Alien Covenant Last Super one). These could be added to the DVD extras etc for those who missed them.
This may have helped to connect with the Characters.... i feel a little more time with Tyler and Kay may have helped.... but these Characters never came over well compared to say Janek, Vickers did in Prometheus.
Overall I think they were not as forgettable as Alien Covenants.
I think that Andy was the stand out but Rain was not too bad... a bit more time with Tyler and Kay would have helped or a 1-2 Short Promotional Scenes to get us accustomed to the Characters would have helped.

    Spoiler ⚠️⚠️🚨📢
I appreciate your video and passion for the flim but we will have to agree to disagree as it is 5. Let me explain as i wanted to love this movie but cant. It makes no sense.
    1. The young crew wouldn't of not been the only crew who knew about the ship. As we see Rook who could of not been the only android on the Romulus ship and someone or android would of called a distress signal.
    2. We got ONE Alien kill. One!
    Kill count.
    1.Chestbuster doesn't count.
    2. Acid making a heart explode.
    3. Our classic xenomorph head shot.
    4. Alien CGI hybrid zombie kill' Whatever the heck it was doing
Thats the blueprint of the kill count that i find Pathetic for an Alien movie in 2024.
Characters who are stupid as hell. Think would you stand in front of a nest like female organ cocoon and stap it with an electric pole? Probably not.
Or talk in a room full of facehuggers. No your not talking. Or use a foreign subject into your body thats from aliens. NOO you are not.
One gun one person takes out a whole nest of aliens almost as to aliens and Marines getting destroyed with a bunch of guns.
Smh and at the end we are just insulted with this CGI monster. Like what was the point of making the movie look beautiful and ruin it at the end with CGI crap. Pluse why was Rook rip in half Probably by an alien but in the nest the alien just stands over Andy it's stupid Inconsistent writing. As either the Aliens recognize the Droids or they dont. The facehuggers can either see you or cant. How you get away talking awhole two minutes in a room full of FACEHUGGERS.
    5!

I wondered the same regarding how they perceive androids. There were definitely inconsistencies that benefited the convenience factor. Maybe it would have been better if there was a larger crew so that we saw more traditional kills from the Aliens. I think the end part was still done with some practical as a really tall actor did play that thing.
I do understand and can relate to your points though. It's one of those films that either you enjoy it or you don't depending on how much your willing to suspend your belief I guess. Either way, I think both sides can obviously see it's flaws.

You know, that scene where they find Ripley, and there's this machine scanner thing and half a dozen men dressed as firemen, the brief exchange of dialogue. Reminscent of the *feeling* we got from Alien, where there are normal people doing their job in a normal way, that we can relate to. But what do we get in Romulus? We get a scene without dialogue (at least i dont remember any) and the people act like they're from a 1950s scifi flick, and a bad one at that. What was that all about, was that deliberate, was that some kind homage to something or other, more member berries! It didnt get much better in the next scene, i mean for goodness sake, that bit where they add the years, omg, why! And of course Andy gets a beating, just like something out of the 80s. The characters are unlikable, which seems be to standard fair these days. Either they should have been shown to be extremely lucky in their escapade or shown to be uniquely gifted in some way. Instead they just thought of it first, cuz reasons, and yet they are not just unlikable but typically dumb and ignorant, so much so one wonders how they managed to survive for so long in such a society, never mind be the sort of people in this society to have access to such wonders, techonology and machines.
