    I enjoy them both for different reasons. My biggest complaint with Creed is the exhaustion meter. As you said, it is realistic, as it gamifies the realistic aspect of exhaustion during a fight; however, by doing so, it makes it so my character is exhausted when I still have gas. That takes me out of the experience, and is frustrating from a fitness perspective. As a game mechanic, it is solid. As a fitness game mechanic, it is frustrating.

      probably the biggest turn of, as well people spamming tap punches in VR. its like wrist flicking as fast as you can with no real strength input into it. In ToTF you actually have to put some power behind the punches. If ony ToTF had PvP.

      @FitProVR  2 года назад +6

      True but i think the purpose is to translate it to what it would feel like in the real world. Like when you pick up a bigger weapon in walking dead, it moves a bit slower. I think that’s the idea.

      @@FitProVR in counter argument - in Walking Dead its kind of mixed bag using two handed weapons. Its is limited to the better made quality weapons. Even though you start with friggin firefighter axe, it feel more of the pool noodle if you do not hit according to the game correctly "at the sweet spot" which is insane. In real life, I am swigging with the force that could lop of any bullnecked bodybuilder's noggin clean (tried in real life with actual firefighter's dull axe, and yes, I am also certified firefighter who had to practice with chopping through obstacles such as doors. Easily lopped fake melon and tatame mat roll heads at least with just dull weight of the axe, even though not perfectly). But coming to TWD, my swings with the very same looking firefighter axe felt like I was hitting zombies with the pool noodle upside the head. Such mechanics are quite off putting, especially when the argument comes back to Creed, even with endurance mode. Its just too arcadey type of feel. While in TotF you can also cheese AI opponents to a degree (for example Edwards "Bill Clinton" can be cornered and just whailed with moderate strength to win by the points. All he does it just curl into defensive ball if you attack nonstop), but it still feels like the effort and techniques applied more realistic with your own fitness acting as the check.

    Hi, I don’t box anymore so technically my opinion doesn’t matter but when you land shots it actually energized you to keep going. It’s a psychological thing. Thrill is good because your stamina in game is your stamina IRL. 3.5 years ago, it’s the game that got me into boxing in the first place

    I actually enjoy both TOTF and Creed for different reasons, TOTF gives me tons of cardio , offense and footwork practice, while Creed rewards you for being on the defense like slipping and pulling back for a counter. I used to hate the exhaustion mechanic, but then I realize that in real sparring, you can only throw about 3-4 punches before having to evade.
    In short, each game has its own strengths that I can use to practice different aspects of boxing.

  • @Caliell
    @Caliell 2 года назад +49

    But in Thrill of The Fight you do get the feel as if it is for real. - You do get tired, depending on the settings you've input there. Your character does lose power for example if hit too much and you wil be a lot easier to KO if you've taken too much damage. All of the paramenters in ToTF are real life input. - If you are tired in real life, you are tired in VR. Not like in Creed. You could be totally fresh and feeling good, but Creed in the game is gassing out for no reason at all.
    Secondly, its weird mechanics of Creed, where KOs are more of the street fight. You or your opponent could be KOed and suddnely get up and lunge at you. Combos and punches are also not realistic. Same goes for dodges. You are limited by thumstic or hand roll walking.
    Most of all the feel of "Not being Boxing Ring" is very present in Creed. in ToTF you basically outline your ring.
    ToTF lacking multiplayer is huge problem. - But imagine if it did. The mechanics are real. The psychological feel is there too. When I started to play ToTF I definetly had that adrenaline feel of real boxing match. Then as I played I adjusted game settings to be more and more realistic, where you had to rely on real techniques to win, otherwise you'd be eating Canvas.
    if ToTF had multiplayer (as it is planned for ToTF2), it would of beat every and any boxing game. - It's just simply realistic since it uses your real-life fitness level and skill vs someone else's real life fitness level and skill. - Not like Creed, with spamming and abusing game techniques. in Creed some 9 year old can trash talk to you and then spam quick punches to win for no reason. in ToTF punch forces are calculated based on the damage received and not on the "bop, bop, bop Whoever Scores More Touches Before Game Stamina Bar Runs Out". - So properly thrown punches is simply must.
    While Creed might have "more realistic Damage Debuff effects" - ToTF have more realistic approach to boxing game overall from clinching, to throwing punches at the right places, and more correctly.

      What is the damage effect depending on? Do you need to throw and fast punch? How the "virtual force" is defined on these games? I assume controllers can only measure acceleration/velocity

    • @Caliell
      @Caliell 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@Giuseppe_coachgius So far reading TotF developer's comment, basically it is similar to the Punching Arcade Machine at the dive bars. It measures the speed with the chronometer at which controller travels and/or accelerates with the weight value arbitrarily assigned (by default now set to 3000 but can be changed - this is as close as it gets to emulating someone's body mass behind the punch but not exactly realistic. Just as good as it gets).

    1. Thrill of the fight has music.
    2. I like how thrill of the fight skips all of the cartoony stuff that most of the time just ends up being mor irritating than fun. Also if you set the difficulty up and mess with the custom modifiers in a fight Toft punishes you hard for not being defensive and actually blocking and slipping hits. Which one gives the experience that feels closer to what Wii Sports did? Wii Sports Boxing, for what it was, was fucking excelent, just serious enough, and just arcady enough, to get invested in, get good at, not have to think too hard about, and get a descent workout. What I'm looking for, and if other games can offer an experience that is closer to what I'm looking for, I'm open, for now I'm waiting for Thrill of the Fight 2 to see how that one is knowing how much people like the courent one, and the 2022 being thrown by the devs as when they announce 2, if I recall properly, don't want to jump into something too fast, but yeah.
    I'm looking for what could described as Wii Sports Boxing+ VR. Plus for like, it's a propper dedicated full game instead of a compilation of minimini cool games as a tech demo so it has extra content and more depth. What VR boxing game gets the closest to that?
    PS: I would also love a sword fighting game that follows the same philosophy, some sort of... Wii Sports HEMA+ VR.

    ToTF cuts to the chase. Hit play, and you're in the ring, no fuss. Creed? It's a slog. Endless logos, animations, a whole minute of fluff before the bell rings.
    In ToTF, it's a real scrap. Your punches hit home, and you can see it in their eyes, the way they reel, teetering on a knockout. But if you go all out, your arms feel like lead. Creed's a cakewalk. Soft taps, no real fight, just a game.
    ToTF keeps it grounded. You move natural, no gimmicks, no queasiness. They've got this mixed reality setup to keep you from wrecking the place. Creed? It's a standstill, more like shadow boxing.
    Graphics? Neither's a showstopper. Creed tries too hard, ends up looking worse. ToTF's no eye candy, but it's honest work.
    The vibe in ToTF? It's bare-bones but reacts to your good hits, gives a bit of that ring atmosphere. Creed? It's a waiting game. Wait, wait, and more waiting.

    The slow motion free shots that creed has are my biggest problem. That and the flubber legs. So as far as a boxing simulator goes, I'd put it as a draw, and a big win for knockout league, as it has the most arcadey and gimmichy game stuff, but it has hands down the BEST training modes of any vr boxing game or app I've seen yet. The player vs player DEF puts creed overall just a touch above thrill, but only if you've got a decent group of people / community to get reliable games consistently. Without that, I'd say thrill for fun factor, knockout league for flat training usefulness, and creed for niche pvp and for theming to rocky.
    Graphics wise is completely subjective and to try and make the comparison without tossing a cord on to run in pcvr mode, you really don't have anything to compare their original intended look to the mobile quest 2 result after ported. You'll notice thrill is much closer to it's original, and had a much smaller budget. Sure, you don't hyave arms or legs in thrill, but the engine is way less "cartoony', more photo realistic. So depending on your personal preference, photo realistic is always harder to nail, and they do quite well porting to quest with minimal loss of fidelity. They took arms out in order to help optimize, but legs they never put in because it flat out doesn't work well PERIOD without full body tracking no matter what boxing game you're playing, which wasn't available at the time these games were made. Get in creed, look at legs and dance around a bit and see how non intuitive it gets. That's why thrill didn't render legs, and without full body tracking, it will stay that way.
    Another big difference is what playspace you're using. In a full 6m x 6m playspace, which one makes better use of the space, and which one tends to have you basically standing in place, with maybe a shuffle step or two to the side and back once in a while?
    Which one can you literally chin dodge, without it being a matter of just ANY head movement back or down equals a dodge?
    Which one tests you (as a trained fighter) in your ability to judge distance accurately?
    These are the things I think you should have made points about, and if yu cover this topic again, I'd like to see your in depth thoughts on knockout league's training scenarios.

    As a boxer and boxing trainer i dont agree. Im not fanboy but Creed is a game and Thrill is a simulator. You are right that noobs can spam in Thril but if you know something about boxing and really fight like you would in real life the game is brutally realistic. You dont need stamina because you get tired in real life. Creed is ok, but its arcade.

    I've seen you mention that wearing wrist weights is a bad idea because of the momentum from the weights pulling your joints and ligaments. But, what about resistance bands? I would think that putting a resistance band from one wrist and wrap it around my upper body to my other wrist would increase intensity while pulling back the momentum from my punches.

    Also, if you're not going out of your way to cheat (deactivating the auto adjust force multiplier) then sure, you can swing away to your heart's content; for the first few rounds, maybe 2 fights total. It by then has adjusted the force multiplier and you'll now HAVE to do that to do ANY damage to the higher up opponents (even many pros that purposfully set this to spaghetti arm strength punches and set opponent to iron chin) admit that it's one hell of a workout, and really can't be done long term and still win.

    You make some good points, and I respect the opinion of a real fighter, but there is a lot of info missing here. I'm not a fan of how the rounds are abbreviated in Creed, or moving your character with the controllers, or the Mike Tysons Punch Out mechanic to get up after a knockout. Opponents in Creed always get very close, closer than your reach, and you can't keep distance on them because of the games limitations with movement. And they always throw one unblockable punch to knock you out. They feel like cheap shots, where in TOTF I feel like I deserved to get knocked out because I was getting lazy with my guard. Opponents in TOTF require more defensive nuance. I find myself ducking, bobbing and weaving more. It takes far more punches and strength to knock them out, while Creed uses the little mini game where you punch in 5 specific spots to knock them out, which really reminds you it's a game, not a simulator.
    TOTF's fighters have more dynamic styles. You have a wider range with the fighters height, speed, and aggression. And they throw fewer punches later into the fight, which is realistic. The later rounds become more about endurance. TOTF also gives you more feedback on how much damage you're doing to them, with the different colored damage indicators, the grunts they make, and the wounds that start appearing on their face. The game also simulates holding, when you move your head too close into the opponent so they can't hit you, and the ref calls you out on it. Something thats a big part of real boxing.
    TOTF calculates the speed and momentum of your punches properly in a way Creed doesnt. A slower hook will do more damage than a faster jab. While in Creed a fast and easy to throw jab is always best, and throwing hooks and the strength they take make them not worth throwing. TOTF provides more detailed stats on the fight, for you and the opponent, so you can better gauge your improvements. There's also more difficulty levels, and more custom settings for the opponents.
    But Creed's licensed characters, arenas, crowd, music is way better, and the training element is cool, and its great that it offers online multiplayer, but i've never been able to find any matches. It was probably easier to find them 2 years ago. Creed is the better game, and TOTF is the better simulator.

  • @asheplays1351
    @asheplays1351 Год назад

    Some problems with creed that you might not notice and make you realize that gameplay is very different from thrill.
    Punch Damage
    1. When you punch, it's either blue or red, blue meaning you did 10 damage and red meaning you did 20, but since it's almost impossible to land a blue punch while you are in a match every punch is basically 20 damage so it's only how many times you can punch in a second
    Blocking
    2. Punching an enemies block literally does nothing. In thrill of the fight, depending on which punch you performed and how much force you put into the punch and the enemy blocked it, the hands will move and can push the enemy back a little bit.
    Health Points
    3. Creed uses a health bar and considering that you can only do 20 damage per hit is kind of lame. In thrill of the fight there is no health bar, as each punch you use is a different effect and depending on how hard you hit them and where really affects your gameplay, this makes it so combos actually matter (like in actual boxing)
    The only real thing to worry about in Thrill is the way you fight. Before playing I would recommend learning the basics of boxing so that your form and punching power is accurate.
    In my opinion thrill of the fight is a much better work out and if it's too easy, or you want to practice things such as dodging, or reaction time, you can specially customize the opponents traits to however you want it to be, so the game doesn't get old and boring.

    Liked the review and your Chanel, and as someone who has boxing, kickboxing, and mma experience I could not disagree more with #1. If you are relying on video game mechanics to simulate something, you are by definition less realistic than the game that does not. The best way to simulate the fatigue of a fight is to actually get tired, not hand jog your spirit back to the ring or hold your hands in the air against some weird circles. I get the spamming point, but if u use REAL technique and go for the knockout in TOTF, (which as you say is harder and again that’s MORE realistic), you will gas. I do think you are right on the equipment, music, game play / but more realistic mechanics based on endurance bars and out of body experiences lol no brah :)

    That aside, I only have TOTF and find it a great workout and it 'feels' smooth. However, it's super shallow. It has zero narrative, which makes it a totally different experience. I don't believe Creed is more realistic for its endurance mechanics because everyone's real life endurance is different. You can also get equally winded shadow boxing vs punching a bag so that's really bad moot point unless you're wearing some really heavy gloves that cushion your hand so you don't have very much any risks of injury. Even still Thrill of the Fight is more realistic because you get tired when you get tired and not when a avatar gets programmed to get tired.

    My main issue creed wise is that it doesn’t maintain a legitimate pace like Thrill does. If you’re on the back foot throwing combinations at an incoming opponent in creed, they won’t get tired and will continue moving forward since your punches have a set damage output. In thrill you’re able to throw back and push your opponent backwards by countering rather than solely having to rely on boxing in a phone booth since your counters are so inefficient.

    I have both games and hands down prefer TOTF. Creed has great graphics and presentation and that’s where it ends. Creed is so glitching and the boxing isn’t realistic at all. You can dodge punches and still get knocked out and also knock people out with just feeler jabs. The tracking is just bad and I’m not sure if it tracks the power of your shot at all.
    TOTF is way more realistic for punching, dodging, and movement. You can bounce in and out and change angles while the game recognizes your power very well. It’s not perfect but it is very close. If TOTF gets the animation and story line like Creed it will be one of the best games ever made. In my mind, TOTF is the best game on the Occulus by far

    Great video, I have some MMA training, my training was more boxing/strike based because my natural skill set lends me to hit very hard. IMO both games are very good but TOTF is a more realistic game IMO. Creed's exaustion meter is based on a very out of shape throw 4 punch tired person which is 80% of the population the other 20% who have combat training can see Creeds biggest flaw which is baseline exhaustion. Some guys can throw harder and longer then others, Creed takes this out of the equation, ToTF uses actual physical tiredness which does not represent a real fight like you pointed out but does so better then Creed IMO.

Plus creed has a system of health where the opponent has a certain amount of health rather than you hitting them in the right spot with the right power. Creed doesn’t render any of these which makes it an unrealistic experience.
