There's an ERROR: if you look up on google then AlN melting point is 2200 Celsius degrees while that of MgO is 2852 so the answer at 3:16 is incorrect!
If you look at the molecules in terms of Electronegativity then it would make sense because EN of Al is 1.5 and N is 3 => AlN EN difference is 1.5 while EN of Mg is 1.2 and O is 3.5 => MgO EN difference is 2.3, greater than that of AlN which means MgO has greater ion-ion interaction, resulting in its higher melting point.

3:20 AlN has a lower melting point than MgO because AlN has more covalent characteristics than MgO.
Al3+ is very small thus it has a high polarising power and N3- IS very large thus it has high tendency to be polarised (in other words N3- has a high polarisability. The higher the polarising power of the cation and polarisability of the anions the more covalent characteristics the compound possesses. And we know that compounds with a covalent nature have relatively lower melting point than compounds which are more ionic in nature.
