Went through the same situation with my husband the first night in the hospital with our son. I wound up calling the nurse to help me (LOL, I had nothing in reach to throw). She came in and helped me, laughed because he wasn't the first dad to sleep through a mom desperately calling for help.
I used to get so annoyed at my husband, when we had a kid emergency at night. I would jump out of bed to deal with a puking kid and he wouldn’t come to help until he put his glasses on. I didn’t worry bout putting my glasses on, there was a puking kid!!!! It was an ongoing criticism that I had. Then, at one point, we both had eye dr appointments the same week. My husband had his appointment first. During my eye appointment the doctor flipped the lenses in front of my eyes and said, “tell me what you see?” I said, “nothing. Just a bunch of blurry colors.” He said, “that’s what your husband sees without his glasses.” I never criticized my husband in the middle of the night again.
Omg, i am dying of laughter listening to this whole video...made me spit my coffee once..i couldn't wait to hear shawns answer on the sleep divorce 🤣🤣🤣
I love the podcast !! Here’s a sleep story ... I’m a waitress and I used to work late and one night I had a server dream and I slept walked into my parents bedroom trying to take their order 😂😂😂
When I had my first child I would be so upset with having to do the nightly duty etc because my hubby just couldn't function etc. That hospital story was us with the first. I literally threw water at him to get him up. The 2nd child I had a whole new mindset which is this too shall pass. I didnt fight it and just said one day I will sleep again. We just divided the household duties more where I did nightly duty for the baby and co slept with her. My husband slept in the guest room and did all the laundry/more chores around the house. The mind shift change made all the difference with the second child. We were so much happier. Babies don't sleep well consistently and the sooner you surrender to it the better your life will be.
Y’all bickered throughout this entire podcast but I’m still here for it! Adapting to parent life is very tough and I’m sure you will figure it out more as time passes. Wish you both the best of luck!
Back in the day of Tickle Me Elmo.... I was at a friend's birthday party, and it was a sleepover. That night, we happened to watch The Bride of Chucky. Fast forward to when all 7 of us girls were trying to fall asleep, I, being a little evil, squeezed my Elmo, it laughed, and all the girls screamed haha. Her dad came downstairs to the basement where we were to see what all the screaming was about, but by that point the girls had figured out what happened and we were all laughing hysterically.
My husband is such a light sleeper, we have had to go to separate beds. I can move around without waking him and sleep so much better. We love each other even more now that we are both better rested.
Becoming parents, sadly no longer about you and your sleep for about 18 years!! Watching this you can tell Shawn is an only child. It gets better!! Stay strong.
I remember those early days/weeks/months when my girls were babies, and just being SOOO tired! It was all on me; I never had help. But that’s a whole other story! I love watching you two, and you’re so funny; but it seems like you fight a lot. Every couple has their own unique way of working out issues, so maybe I have the wrong impression:) I really love you two, and your baby girl is truly the prettiest baby ♥️ Thank you for sharing your lives with us!
Just watched your "I should be playing in the superbowl" vlog and just wanted to thank you for what you said, I really needed to hear that! I know God has a plan for us all, it's just hard to trust and be patient and not scared of the new path. Thank you for being so inspiring. Xx
I was sleep walking trying to make a margarita in my bedroom (wasn't actually making a margarita) and "spilt" it everywhere and put on fuzzy socks to clean it up by stomping my feet around my bedroom 🤣🤣
My sleep is all over the place and the bed covers are so twisted! I wake up often and I am trying to sleep and my goal is 7 hours of sleep! I love you guys! ❤️❤️❤️🤗😎🌹 Lets talk about forgiveness before you go to bed. You should not go to bed when you are angry!
One time I slept walk into the shower half naked. The cold water woke me up. Low-key convinced that if the water was warm I wouldn't have woken up🤣 also... Shawn banging her head on the wall made me laugh so hard 🤣🤣
I normally prefer my sleep number to be 50, but after having some back pain I had to put it at 100, which significantly reduced the pain. Without a doubt this is one of the best purchases I've ever made. As far as sleepwalking the only time someone else saw me was as a kid. My parents said I came downstairs, unlocked the backdoor, then went back to bed. But there were also times I've woken up and the light in my room was on. I have no recollection of turning it on, nor do I have any idea about what else I may have done.
I´m a really deep sleeper. When our kids got up sick, they would have to call for their Dad and say ¨Dad, wake Mom up, I´m sick¨ No Mother of the Year awards here.
My husband and I understand sleep deprivation. One night around 3AM my infant son (1983) woke up crying. It startled me awake, so as I was walking towards his room to feed him for some reason I felt the right side of my hip and thought, "O NO, I forgot to put a diaper on Josh!" It finally dawned on me that I hadn't even gotten to him yet and that I was feeling my own body that didn't have a diaper on. And that's when we had him in cloth diapers, but I wasn't feeling the plastic diaper pants, so I pictured everything sopping wet. Another night he woke up crying and my husband said, "Aren't you going to go feed Josh?" I said, "he's here nursing." David replied, "No he's not. You're not awake." Around 25 years ago Josh was playing a lot of a Mario game on Nintendo. One night around 11:30 or so I heard something in the hallway and then heard the creaking of the stairs. I got up and saw Josh going downstairs. I asked him where he was going. He said, "I'm going down to Level 3." I thought he was playing the game way too much, so I had him take about a week break from it. He was not happy.
I laughed thru so much of this! Our first baby had colic...would wake up several times a night. We were both working full time jobs, traveling and trying to adjust to being parents. We would take turns getting up with our daughter. One night, when it was my turn I was so exhausted I offered my husband $100 to get up with her- his response was “it’s not enough”. I then offered $500...he laughed and said “you can’t afford that!” You make it thru..sometimes just one foot in front of the other. 🌻
Never go to bed or wake up angry, that is not good for your marriage. Talk about it before you go to bed. I know you are not getting enough sleep, but that is part of being parents. Sleep in the same bed no matter what. If you're to tired try to have naps when the baby is sleeping. My husband had to work, so I tried to let him sleep while I was feeding the baby. We have to compromise and help each other. When he came home he help me, order food so I didn't have to cook ect. Please don't argue so much, be happy that you have a healthy baby, you will have a good night sleep soon. It is a stage in your life, and you will have more. So guys take a deep breath and keep on going. Life with a child changed everything. God blessed you always.
I have 3 kids. 16,15, 7. I have sleep anxiety .... as well . I wake up 3-4x a night. 7 year old stil crawls in bed with me. ♡ good luck on the lack of sleep thing and hang on tight .
Welcome to parenthood...goodbye sleep! It’s really hard, but hang in there. You can do this😊. Help each other get better sleep. Since Drew will take a bottle, take turns sleeping longer stretches. Two parents awake at the same time is not a good economy here. From a mom of three adult children who wouldn’t sleep all night forever and lived to tell the tale.
My husband was working graveyards when our younger two kids were babies. I had to do almost every night by myself and then most the day too. I didn’t sleep more than a few hours at a time for about 4 years!
When my husband was young he would sleep walk and walked out the door in the middle of winter. There was a big pond and it was frozen. He walked onto the ice and fell trough the ice. He walked back to the door and knocked on the door. It is a miracle that he is here because he came up the same place he fell in. We had two kids and both of them sleep walked. Found our daughter up on the top of our waterbed headboard and she was faced to the wall.
My daughter use to have night terrors, which are not the same as nightmares. Every night between 11pm-1130pm, she would start screaming but she wasn't actually awake. She was about 4 y/o. I would have to pick her up, sit her on the toilet and as soon as she pee'd, she'd wake up and I could comfort her. It was awful cause there was nothing we could do to stop this happening. She finally out grew it. I myself have sleep issues where I can only sleep for an hour at a time. It sucks, I'm tired 😴
You guys need to alternate nights. Seriously. If you’re not both fatigued on the same day, things go much easier. It’s the only way I survived three babies. I sleep walked into the kitchen, took a pee in the trash can, then tried to climb into the fridge to go to bed. Kept saying, “it’s too cold, too cold.” My sisters were at the kitchen table playing cards. I haven’t lived it down, and I’m 63. I often woke up in the morning with no bedding. I’d have to go look for it. The farthest place I ever found it was in the downstairs hall closet. I actually woke up in there one morning with, of course, no memory of getting there. I guess I had a thing for that closet. Our next door neighbors got up one morning to my brother sleeping on their living room sofa. He was a sleep walker too.
The first sleepover I had with my husband we were sleeping in a twin sized bed. In the middle of the night he pushed me off! Shortly after he bought a king sized bed. I'll never forget waking up on the ground and yelling "'WTF you pushed me off the bed!"
🤣🤣🤣 I'm dying!! I can completely relate!!! But I am also a SEVERE insomniac (ok--I get sleep, just not at typical hours for someone who doesn't have shift work...). Funny Story -- 1998, yes -- we are going back...my older brother is asleep on the couch in the living room, I am playing a board game on the floor with my friend (blocking the hall, this is an important detail). My parents are out at a function. (Brother and I are teens) All of a sudden my brother gets up, navigates around our game and us, walks down the hall and into the kitchen, grabs a Tupperware bowl, walks around the corner grabs the Cheerios (overflowing from the Tupperware), pours like 15 Cheerios into this bowl, opens the microwave and places the bowl inside, turns around and says 'popcorn'. My friend and I are just in shock. My brother then navigates back to the couch and tucks himself all in... My friend and I burst out laughing ...we are in tears and full fits of laughter by the time my parents walk in the door about 2 minutes later. At this point my brother gets up and goes 'finally, you're home' and goes up to bed. The friend and I lose it even more! My parents are trying to figure out why we are laughing so much, but we can't speak...and that's when my Mom notices the microwave with the Cheerios! We could only manage to say popcorn and die laughing again! 🤣🤣🤣 Took us a long time to tell the story through all the bouts of laughter!!
Idk how I’m just seeing this video! Lol but one of my sleep walking stories, I believe I was like 10/11 but I woke up with all the condiments from the fridge placed all around my bedroom. So dang weird! Lol
My oldest was really bad about sleep walking. It was every night. She would get out of bed to use the restroom, but never woke up. Once she walked to the toy box and pulled her pants down and just sat on the toy box. Once she did the same thing at the couch (luckily one of us was always up to stop her). But, the worst for me, was she got up and unlocked both of the locks on the front door and tried to go outside! We made it a habit of staying awake until she went the the restroom after she’d gone to bed (and yes, we always made sure she went to the restroom before putting her to bed at night). We also had to add chain locks to the top of the door where she (nor I -short girl problems) could reach.
Sleep story! In high school, I would make a peanut butter and jelly before bed for breakfast in the morning. I would wake up all the time with crumbs in my bed because I would eat the peanut butter and jelly in my sleep. How I'm still alive while eating in my sleep still amazes me to this day!
Ironically I'm watching this because I can't sleep. I went through a stage where I sat up and stared at the people still awake while I was completely asleep. My aunt once walked around waking everyone up to put their shoes outside 😂
I used to sleepwalk as a child. We lived in Detroit and I tried to walk outside at midnight or later, but thank God my grandma would always stay awake late and she quickly got up and guided me to the bathroom (which is what I was actually trying to find). Fast forward years later and my 1st and 2nd daughter both have slept walked and it's always because they're trying to find the bathroom. But they are 4 and 5. So it is very possible for Drew to get it when she's older. 😬
I have 4 children, 2 of them are allergic to Tylenol. One of the things that happens when my two that are allergic are given Tylenol is they have night terrors. One of my sons at the age of 17 had surgery. The medication he was given for pain had Tylenol in it. My son had a night terror, He had his hands around my neck choking me. Thankfully one of my other kids heard the struggle and came and saved me. Sleep deprived mom, scared to go back to sleep after that. My son would not take anymore of that medication after my daughter told him what happened the next morning.
OMG YES!!!!!!!! 29 YEARS LATER. Our kids are now 22 and 17 they come and go...I am terrified of getting a call in the middle of the night. I started sleeping with the light on, TV on and my laptop on all night. My husband says he needs quiet and has to have 9 hours as for me I can function without but yes I am tired. I can sleep through just about anything but let on of the kids say, "mom" or mama and I am up wide awake....you will get used to less sleep.
When I was a kid I would sit up and scream bloody murder waking up my mom which would cause her to panic. However, I was dead asleep, so I had no idea it had even happened when I woke up.
Omg my husband does the same exact thing. When we were in the hospital he slept through everything and I was literally about to throw something at him. He was holding our child in bed and literally fell asleep. I was about to kill him. Lol we’re about to have our second child, wish me luck.
I sleep walk. I once told my niece, “ if you kick the dog, the electricity will go off.” She was so confused. I got frustrated and went back to bed. Five minutes later, I went back to her room and apologized to her and then proceeded to tell her, “ if you kick the dog the electricity will go off.” I was asleep the whole time. I knew I was doing it, but couldn’t stop myself. Once I tried to run my phone outside thinking it was a bomb. Lol
I sleep walk on a pretty regular basis. It freaks my husband out and used to freak out my mom. Much of the time when I do this, I run into walls and try to use doors for the closet to get out of the room and have to be lead back to the bed. I think it's hilarious! 🤣
When I was a kid I used to sleep walk. Once while sleep walking I just went and opened the fridge just staring into it. Another time I went into my parents room and just stood at my dads side of the bed. He woke up and told my mom he was gonna go get a lock for the door🤣 Both times they just took me back to bed lol
I have a friend who used to sleep walk when she was little, and she would take all the bedding off her bed fold it up and put it in the hallway. Her mom would put the bedding back on, but she would just take it back off and fold it up. She would also take other objects out of her room and put it in the hallway. I think it's the funniest thing
When I was about 8 years old...In my sleep, I got up, and filled the bath rub all the way up, and lay down in the tub, as if it were my bed. I woke up when the water completely covered my face and I breathed in the water. It’s terrifying to think I could have drown myself in my sleep.
Snoring is a BIG ISSUE in our marriage! Since we have been married for almost 24 years we have learned to deal with it! If one of us can't sleep because of the other's snoring we either go to the other room or put in ear plugs!
My brother is a sleep walker. As a child he would go to the neighbors in the middle of the night asking if their son could play, he peed on the TV while my parents were hanging out with friends, and on his wedding night in Vegas, security woke him up, naked, in the hallway of Mandalay Bay hotel and he had no idea which room he was supposed to be in.
My husband has night terrors and has made me get out of the bed in the middle of the night, turned the light on and tried to get spiders out of the bed all while he is asleep BUT the scariest time was when he grabbed my hip and dragged me across the bed while we were both asleep, I thought I was being attacked. He did not remember either of these events
My favorite sleepover story was the 3rd time my boyfriend slept over. We had slept in the same bed a few times, so I was like no big deal. Now keep in mind my boyfriend is 6’2” while I’m 5’3”. We’re sleeping and everything is normal. He kicked me a few times, but it was fine. Then all of the sudden he full on kicked me out of bed-like to the floor. He sprawled out all over my bed. I tried to get him to wake up, but he was legitimately a rock, even when I was yelling at him. I ended up sleeping on the couch that night
Oh my gosh, I absolutely love your podcasts and videos! I have had 2 sleep walking experiences as well, and one of them my dad caught me just in time before walking out of our hotel room. Talk about terrifying if that were your child! I wish I could comment on your other channel you tube videos because I do not have other social media platforms, but ever since I saw your Thrive market video, I am dying to know what clean wine you get?! I had a very similar birthing story to you that started October 10th and gave birth on October 11th, I did acro gymnastics when I was younger, and I am definitely the over-thinker sleeper so your video and podcasts are definitely resonating with me! I would love to see a video of what you pack and how you travel with Drew If possible? I am getting ready to travel with my daughter and am curious how you take everything with you, how you do the car seats, etc?! Thank you for all your videos. It is so nice to hear from a fellow new mom/parents! 😊
I think that when you do things in your sleep that your subconscious takes over and keeps you safe. I have had times where I went to bed while my husband was not yet home (I had young children), and in the morning I realized that I never even knew he came home or got in bed. I would wonder if a stranger came into the house would I not wake up? But it was explained to me that my subconscious knew that everything and everyone was safe. Shawn, I think that is why you could not open the windows on the second floor and Andrew only ran around the house and not down the street. Also why Ghost Rider was able to do the things he did.
My husband slept walk and my son ended up having sleep terrors til her was like 2. Like he would be sleeping and would just cry but you couldn't wake him up. His episodes would last for secs but you couldn't wake him you just had to let them finish. And then he would just go back to sleep like nothing happened.
In our home we have turned off all electronics and even unplugged the wfi. The emf from those devices affect your sleep. We sleep so sound when we do this
Andrew your fixing to be in the dog house with Nash if you say Shawn looks tired 😴 one more time lol 😂 I don’t sleep but 2 hours at a time. I have a bad back and arthritis. Always looking for a comfortable position.
Andrew don’t worry I sleep walk and sleep talk 😂😂. I gave done it since I was 7. I am 15 now and still doing it. Once in our two story house, I went down stairs and started flickers the lights on and off in my parents room and I creeped them out. Another time, I was at my cousins house and their Grandmal woke up because I was “baking and cooking” in my sleep😂. This stuff is so weird and I don’t know why we sleep walk and talk
My husband is a much deeper sleeper than me. It can be frustrating when I’m the one to get up most of the time, but I’m already awake anyway cause I’m a light sleeper and I hear the baby right away, but there’s no point in then waking him up just out of principle to go to him whilst I lie there awake... if I really am exhausted I’ll give him a (very firm) nudge and he’ll get up and go to him right away. We’re both working full time, when I was still on maternity leave I did all the night stuff cause he had to get up and go to work the next day, but now we both are, so at the weekends we take turns to lay in whilst the other gets up with the little one. And if one of us has had to get up mega early with him, when the other wakes they go back to bed for a nap. Works for us.
And to be fair, women’s hormones shift to where they are hardwired to wake up to their kids and respond to them on a very deep level. Dad’s don’t have that hormone triggered response system. But women also have hormones that help carry them through those first for months of sleep deprivation. You still struggle, but it is on a different plain them men.
I’m sorry, but it’s just not fair how men can sleep through most anything and once you become a mother you obsess over every noise and movement and when they cry we jump in to action. Especially in the first year. My daughter just turned 2 and she’s been fighting her sleep schedule tooth and nail and I just gave her a bath from 11:45-12:30am, it does help them sleep but now I’m awake at 1am watching this. I wish I could be as positive and joke about the feelings I’m having about the fact my husband has been sleeping for hours while I’ve done everything. I enjoyed this video immensely just due to the relatability.
One night my family was sitting around watching tv and my dad is sleeping on the couch and all of the sudden he lifts his hands and feet in the air and goes baaaahhhhhh.....like a sheep lmao
Sleep walking: When I was 11/12 ish I walked into my parents' room while they were still awake. I was trying to turn on the light (that wasn't there) and after not finding the light switch for 30 seconds I turned around and started to pull down my pants as if I was going to go to the bathroom! My parents yelled saying STOP! So I woke up and they directed me to my destination 😆😂.
Being a sleep Zombie is a real thing. A few years ago. I took ILL and fainted, hitting my head, cracked it open, blood everywhere. You get the picture. I literally crawled to the sofa to get my husband to help. He was so deeply asleep he could not hear me. I was hysterical, in and out of it. My dogs were going nuts. Nothing. He would not wake up! Even after the ambulance drivers took me away he didn’t budge. Hours later he called my cell phone to see where I was and why was there blood all over the house?! To this day I’ve never seen anyone sleep as deeply as my Husband. The original Sleep Zombie. Yes, we’re still married.
My husband is the same way. He cant hear his 4 month old son crying his head off. He doesnt wake up so it's all on me and that's a lot of where my frustration comes from when parenting.
When my husband and I were first dating, he spent the night and we were spooning. He rolled over to face me, yelled something totally incoherent and then hammer fisted me right in the hip. 😂😂😂😂 AND THEN he just rolled right back over and continued sleeping. Lol he still denies it, but I had a bruise to prove it. 😂
"You snore to"
"No, I BREATHE"
Love this podcast, so many good moments
“You’re digging your grave” cracking up now. Thanks for the Morning giggle.
😆😆
"I said your name 22 times... at increasing volumes..." oh snap Andrew. You will never live that one down. 🤣
Who else is loving this marathon of East fam videos?!❤️💚🙃
‘No, I don’t. I breathe!’ That is hilarious! I love you guys!
I actually laughed out loud when Shawn said that
I cant handle how much I love your “Couple Things” series! Thank you for the great content!
❤ God bless you! I really enjoy our talks, and your visitors brings joy to my day
I love sleeping with a sound machine, I will not sleep without a sound machine again! It has definitely improved our sleep.
Omg, i am dying of laughter listening to this whole video...made me spit my coffee once..i couldn't wait to hear shawns answer on the sleep divorce 🤣🤣🤣
You two are freakin adorable, couple GOALS

Listening to this is fun . It’s 12 am when I am listening this.
Andrew : "you snore too!" SHAWN: "NO, I BREATHE" - so relatable!!

Shawn definitely “wears the pants” in the relationship 😂

This is the podcast I needed today in the midst of the 4 month sleep regression. ☕😴
I totally have sleep anxiety. Well, I have anxiety about everything but sleep is definitely one of them!
I´m a really deep sleeper. When our kids got up sick, they would have to call for their Dad and say ¨Dad, wake Mom up, I´m sick¨ No Mother of the Year awards here.

This is sooo funny! I threw a coke can at my husband to wake him up after my c-section 😂
Drew is so cute i am seeing yr insta stories. As we get older sleep is great. I did not realise shawn did not sleep before her games wow
I carry on full conversations with people in my sleep including on the phone. I don’t have any recollection of it when I wake up.
So good guys. I don't have any sleep stories. Luv Yas Hope ur havinga good nite. 🌕
I hate being woken up in the middle of the night, but....having 5 kids I just got used to it and I know it eventually ends...praise God!
I love your podcast!!!
You two are too, too, too, cute. Love it love it.
One time I woke up in the middle of the night to find my older brother just standing over me... it was terrifying but he was asleep 🤣
Lol
All I can say is HILARIOUS!!😂😅
I got a purple mattress ad on this video that SLAMMED sleep number. Like literally slammed it. Twice. With raw eggs.
How I'm still alive while eating in my sleep still amazes me to this day!
love you guys!!!❤️
Shawn I feel you my husband was the same way when we had our son.
Ok banging your head against the wall is straight out of the conjuring! Shawn just creeped me out big time👀
sleeping separate in a room with door shut has saved our marriage
OMG YES!!!!!!!! 29 YEARS LATER. Our kids are now 22 and 17 they come and go...I am terrified of getting a call in the middle of the night. I started sleeping with the light on, TV on and my laptop on all night. My husband says he needs quiet and has to have 9 hours as for me I can function without but yes I am tired. I can sleep through just about anything but let on of the kids say, "mom" or mama and I am up wide awake....you will get used to less sleep.
I had a friend who used to play football in his sleep! Like called out actual plays and throw a football through his house! It was crazy!
When I was a kid I would sit up and scream bloody murder waking up my mom which would cause her to panic. However, I was dead asleep, so I had no idea it had even happened when I woke up.
😂😂😂. There is a meme about a wife being pissed cuz she is up all night with the baby and her husband is snoring away! 😂😂😂
Sleep # is 50 to 55. I love my Sleep Number bed and will never own a different kind of bed.
My babe is 6 months (my fourth) and he still wakes up every 2-3 hrs. I am a superhero...basically.
⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐ 5 stars for u guys....
My husband completely, fully got 'VERY FRISKY' often when we were younger!!!! True story! But he would fall asleep after I was 'awake'!!!!!
That sounds so scary
@@shawnandandrewpods it was til I found out what was happening.
In our home we have turned off all electronics and even unplugged the wfi. The emf from those devices affect your sleep. We sleep so sound when we do this
Thanks for the tip we will try this out!
Andrew your fixing to be in the dog house with Nash if you say Shawn looks tired 😴 one more time lol 😂
I don’t sleep but 2 hours at a time.
I 💜💜💜 my sleep number bed... I always joke if my house were on fire, grab my dog and my bed.....
My husband will sleep through anything like that too.
A few years back, a guy in Toronto Canada, had a home show on tv with his partner. He was prone to sleepwalking, fell off his balcony and passed away.
haha yeah My kids are 2, 5, and 7 and I've been tired for like 8 years. It's so funny to think about how I thought I was tired before kids.
One night my family was sitting around watching tv and my dad is sleeping on the couch and all of the sudden he lifts his hands and feet in the air and goes baaaahhhhhh.....like a sheep lmao
Also i cut my hand open while doing a back bend in my sleep. I woke up halfway through the back bend and fell into my closet
Sleep walking:
When I was 11/12 ish I walked into my parents' room while they were still awake.
Trish Radloff That’s sooo frustrating! I’m so sorry you went through that! Also glad you are still married. Life! It ain’t for sissies!
