    In this video, Maxx does the penny mod, swing out / barrel drop mod, air-chamber mod, restrictor removal and shroud removal on a de-badged Nerf Maverick and then show a final image after paint.
    I know there are tons of videos on this topic, but felt I should add my suggestions and also cover the shroud removal, which I have not seen.

    Yes, the video is long, but keep in mind, this is for 5 separate mods with directions. Enjoy, but check your larp to make sure they allow mods before you begin.

    The six spring thingies are air restrictor(safety valves) to protect the plunger from dry fire. Most single-shot NERFs don't suffer a lot from those, but usually long barrel, magazine or drum mag ones do. Nitefinders often work wonderful even after years, and since they're so troublesome to open apart, i often just leave mine with the restrictor since it barely hurts the range(and makes the plunger last longer)
    The stems are supposed to help the dart fit better and align them properly. You only really remove those if you intend to shoot custom darts or ones that are normally incompatible.
    I had a custom maverick with some custom(salvaged and adapted) metal parts so i could fit a stronger spring and plunger. I used to fire somewhat heavy rubber slugs at very short range with it.

    thanx for the video. what color/spray do you use for the paintjob? looks fantastic

      Because I was making this to have a steampunk look, I'm pretty sure I used just a hammered bronze spray paint you can buy off the shelf. Probably 2 coats and then clear over top of that.

    Helpful. What paint did you use, for the black guns, that we saw? Are there videos of how you made them, as I couldn't find any?

    • @LarpMix
      @LarpMix  4 года назад +1

      The black guns are just a Krylon black plastic fushion spray paint. The trick to painting NERF guns is to sand the entire piece with a fine grit sandpaper, or maybe even soda blast it (I haven't tried that yet). I hear people praise all kinds of different paints, I've used generic stuff, to the Krylon to special auto interior paint. And the verdict is that it all comes off eventually. I haven't tried truck underbody coating or line-x though, they may hold up well. Good Luck!

    is it really a good idear to take the pins off?
    now the friktion is agaist the bottom of the barrel.
    i have personly think over using the friktion in a weapon designe to give the dart more power by delaying the projektile to build Up preasure in the dart and not the champer.
    like a air pump rocket

      Yeah, I don't disagree with what you're saying, but that is one of the mods that a lot of folks do. I suppose you could try testing out the theory, or if I pick up another Maverick I'll test it. But in all honesty, I don't know that it makes that much difference.

      Yeah you probely right about that it dont make a such big difference Then theres not mush Energy in the shots

      Actually the reason we do this is that we have some darts called "stefans" that do not have the hole in the middle. Instead they are straight foam. Taking out the pegs allows us to pick up both regular darts and stefans when in a Nerf war.

      I tried both with 2 different guns, removing the pins actually does help.
      Also, a little glue, epoxy or contact cement does well with the chamber shroud removal. I just gave that idea a go by gluing around the end of the orange chamber cylinders and attaching the orange caps to them. Then glued the black back plate cylinders that meet the orange caps and pressed them tight. After that I did reassembly as usual and sat it in front of a fan on high to help lower glue cure time. All in all its air tight and a solid unit without the long screws.
      So if you dont want to bother with long screws and bolts then you can get away with glue as an alternative. Make sure it's a strong glue though or it could separate from rough handling or the like.

    i have the problem of my cylinder not smoothly closing because the spring is pushing the pin to far back

    • @LarpMix
      @LarpMix  5 лет назад

      Not 100% sure which spring it is, since this build was a while back, but the best advice I can give is to pull it apart, make sure everything is right and put it back together, if a mod is causing the issue, try adjusting or removing the mod... Hope that gives you a starting point.

      I really don't remember, but it's not one I see often, it may not even be Nerf. Could be Buzzbee or something.

      It does require some force on some of these. Other ones, they pop right off... Just be careful not to break it, but you may need to use some force.
