    A Payed Tout said this or that??
    Absolute Nonsense.
    The Irish State wasn't at War with Britain, so didn't need to support the IRA.

    Sorry I missed the live chat on this. It’s possible that the Gardai tipped the IRA, but I can’t see this as something that frequently happened. The Gardai in general were not happy with PIRA.

      Yeah, it's far from inconceivable that a powerful underground group would have some rogue cops on the payroll. Even the Mafia had its bad apple NYPD officers well into the 90s. But the Irish police, like the NYPD with the mob, never appeared too sympathetic as a matter of policy, to the IRA.

    A bit unbalance, sadly there was is likely some individuals with radical republican sympathies in the garda's. But nowhere never the proven levels of institutional collusion "secret war" by crown forces and entitites (like the then RUC) with loyalist paramilitaries as shown by numerous restricted and closedown investigations and media documentaries.
    Also remember that republican groups both the IRA and INLA had killed unarmed gardai in the 80s when robbing banks or in high profile kidnappings, so no love lost there and then.
    The former british general is sadly a poor mouth piece for this unbalanced and sadly biased view . As the GCHQ and intellence services ability even back then to monitor land-line and radio communications infiltrated republican groups was extensive. And if threats existed from the border the crown forces would and should have been on to Garda HQ and Parkgate street through channels requesting the irish governments commitment to the Anglo Irish agreements for regular search/ patrols along the border.
    Tragically allowing deaths to occurring has and appears to be still allowed to protect source or obtain public shock adhorance to activities.

    It would be the same the same as the British government ya know they said they were sorry however it's just words ...most of the Republic was against all from s of violence , I say most people were completely sick of it by 1980....it was just a few rouge members of the guards and maybe one or two rouge political figures...Charlie haughy as an example ,he is a hated leader here ,...I think he was a good man but that's irrelevant
    By 1990the irish state was geared towards no other end than ending violence and creating peace .

      I take your point in that most are produced generally by British media though on your other point I defo don't.
      Investigative journalists have been a total credit to our people in documenting our history. They may be BBC or ITV but they know their job and most do it without favor.
      Facts and truth.
      Some make a mountain out of a mole hill granted but I know many that came from England being biased against one side or the other and over time and doing their actual job properly they became outstanding journalists getting the complete facts as people trusted them on the ground to open up to them knowing they wouldn't mix their words.

    • @83reggieT
      @83reggieT 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@ATroubledLand to a majority ofbritish people the ira were bad and the british security forces were good..when the truth is gray and based on one's personal feelings. If you watch the news in the US or Britain isreal will be portrayed in one light and Palestine in another with it being skewed to whatever those who control the media want to be projected. Even the individual journalists can't completely mask their feeling on various subjects. My own personal bias would lean slightly left. As an Irish American I tend to have more sympathetic leanings towards the nationalists. It's human nature and can be seen everywhere if you read between the lines.

      @@83reggieTmaybe your thoughts are scewed to and your anti-British as like many other Americans are especially those with that tiny bit of Irish blood they bang the drum so loudly about, in fact americans shouldnt really stick the two pennith in on either side due to not knowing the complexity of the whole thing, usually what i see them doing is stirring the pot and trying to seed division like scottish and even welsh ancestry americans are now started doing in the last couple of years, its due to nialism/marxist indoctrination from the education system, the old oppressors and oppressed straight from the playbook, maybe its better if yanks didnt have opinions on this, and when they do people shouldnt listen to them..
