- Minsc the less than enigmatic ranger will be getting a big reveal tomorrow and will be a companion, so it is time to explore who he is and how he might fit into the companion roster of Baldur's Gate 3!
I'll have you know that boo IS NOT a giant space hamster. He is a MINIATURE giant space hamster.
If he's in, he'd better have a nonremovable hamster item that squeaks if you click on it
As far as we know, Boo will be separated from Minsc in the story. Since Boo is his source of power, he needs to be removed in order for the tadpole to take his place during this short fiasco. ✌️

Used to love Minsc in BG1 and 2 ... and I think I love him even more in BG3.

The trailer made it seem like we would be meeting him just as he was un-petrified, so I had no idea so many things happened to him since. I definitely think your tadpole theory is how they will make him playable.
Story wise, Minsc has been unpatrified for several years now. Gone on many adventures with new allies and fought a bunch of different things, BUT the last thing he did was fighting a bunch of mind flayres, and in that scenario both he and his companions were captured! I believe this is where we start our journey with Minsc. They were setting him up to be implanted with a tadpole just at the very end of that story arc, he's quite possibly on the same Nautiloid as we are. We should possibly have access to him in Act 1 as well, this is potentially confirmed/supported by voice lines that were added a few patches ago. 👍
Whether it's that or not, we'd *better* see Delina with him too. And all the characters from the Legends of Baldur's Gate comics.
@@Ty-cx3gv I think that will depend on what they decide to make canon or not to the series. If they hold true to the comics then Minsc should have a tadpole in his head since at the end of Mind Breaker he and several of the others were captured and getting ready to be implanted. Helia I think her name is, a werewolf was also reportedly supposed to be in this game several months ago like Minsc, who would also have a tadpole. We also would have to consider that everyone else in his party would also be tadpole infected too but we haven't heard anything about them.
So until we know for sure whether or not that whole event is canon in game, we won't know what to expect. What if Minsc isn't infected? Then that comic and possibly the rest since he woke up might not be canon lore all of a sudden. We'll have to see what Wizards of the Coast has decided to let Larian put into their game, since going forward that WILL be canon.
Yeah you have to rescue minsc from being controlled by the cult with the tadpole. he then says "MINSC ONLY TAKES ORDERS FROM ONE TINY CREATURE! AND HE IS MUCH CUTER THAN ANY MIND MAGGOT!"
Also, Shadowheart, Lazel and Astarion can all have significant character development based on your choices you can be a good influence on them.
Matt Mercer will play the voice. He's truly worthy.

Obviously timely, and, as usual, well done. For someone that never played BG1 or 2, theser lore videos really add to my appreciation & enjoyment of BG3.
Evil meet my sword, Sword MEET EVIL!!! If you correlate memories to experience, I don't think he should get his memories back at all if he's going to be a main playable companion. The guy would be way too powerful to be with our BG3 party (who I think are going to get to max level between 10 and 12 or something like that). We're talking about a guy who has fought Liches, Dragons, Irenicus, Bhaalspawn, took out a whole nest of Illithids in the underdark, his comic adventers, etc. The guy has been fighting pretty high level threats for a long time and is a legend kind of like Drizzt (who I believe is like a level 19 character in canon, but I'd probably put him a bit above minsc). Idk, I just imagine Minsc being more like in the level 15-20 range, not the 5-10 range. I definitely want to see him in the game, but I don't know how I feel about him becoming a mainstay playable companion, more like a part time companion that is there for like a super hard fight or something and he saves your ass. Either way, Larian is awesome and I'm sure I'll like whatever they end up doing with him
I been playing bg1/2 for about 20yrs , I wasn't sure about bg3.. but if minsc is there then I must lead him into the fray once more, buttkicking for goodness
I know it only really applied to BG2, but I loved keeping Keldorn and Minsc in my party at the same time. Mazzy was pretty great too.

Maybe Minsc needs Tav's help to locate Boo in Act 1, and then he commit to help Helsin remove the ShadowCurse, and by proxy he'll be joining the party.
Minsc, but no Boo? unthinkable! and if hes lost his memory, he wont know to seek the creature...or recognize it should it show up on his person("there is ever so much of minsc to search" :) )

As per Minsc's last known adventure 'Mind Breaker', he was captured by mind flayers along with some companions. At the end of that story he and several of his companions were getting prepared for 'enlightenment', which was just a fancy way of saying tadpole implementation. So it is quite possible that he will be on the same Nautiloid as we are at the beginning of the game. His memory loss will be the basis of why he will also be a low level companion more than likely. In this scenario however it is also likely that his companion Boo will not be with him, as the tadpole will have to be the new source of his powers, and as far as space hamster lore goes, Boo would be the source of Minsc's great strengths right now. That strength needs to be removed in order for the tadpole to take center stage, so as a subplot to his story, we will be likely looking to reunite him with his favorite little space hamster buddy. Not a bad motivation for him. 😉

Regardless of him being 'not smart enough' as it were to romance, he still is a romanceable character in Baldur's Gate 3. There are already several lines alluding to this by various different characters such as Astarion during the party after the Selune Temple / Druid Grove incident. 🤭

I played way too much Neverwinter online, I was so hyped and happy to see Minsk untik I realized he’s with the absolute 😢
In BG 1 and 2, Minsc had impossible stats for human and abilities beyond range class. Which made perfect sense in the context of Minsc. He is, afterall a superhero, or Boo is an eldricht entity Minsc had struct a pact with.

Forgotten Realms is, hands down, the finest fantasy world ever created. Better than Middle Earth, Star Wars galaxy, and the Seven Kingdoms. I will die on that hill! Ed Greenwood's Abeir-Toril gave us so much, and x10 what we take for granted as standard D&D lore.
Are these stories of his adventures in novels (outside of BG1 and 2?) Where did this lore come from? Minsc has been my favorite for 25 years.
In my opinion, Minsc is cool.
Couldn't be the River Styx, in Greek mythology the River Styx makes your skin impenetrable. The River Lethe is the one that erases your memory.
That is how it works in classical mythology but in D&D Lethe has been fused into Styx. There is no Lethe in the Lower Planes in D&D.

I really needed this! Having not played BG1, I only imagined Minsc as Lenny from Of Mice & Men with a weird hamster fetish. Couldn't understand why anyone was excited to have him return.

a sword is not a bow and arrow, its cringe to watch this "timmy turner" event become a blister problem and a series of ugly girl fighting, "by men". even goblins. truly a boring thing to watch.
