Your husband sounds just like my dad! Salt of the earth! He and his good dog go fishing as often as the weather let's them! And since he is retired he gets lots of good fishing time in with his buddy.
I so much like your honesty and recognition that for such a huge project, plans change on an ongoing basis. Thankfully, your passion and fighting spirit are the drivers to a creative solution. You are amazing! Isabelle
That's why I call it my weird hobby. We flip houses for a living so making money is always the primary goal but with this one I was just wanting to save it and find a family that would take care of it. I had even set aside an amount I was willing to lose on the house.
We just celebrated our 38th anniversary. He's put up with a lot of my crazy ideas over the years. He's earned his outdoor time. It sounds like you found a keeper too.
The biggest issues for me is just that it is so unique. It really is the last of its kind here in Galveston. I have no problem with old houses being updated for modern living (hopefully done in a thoughtful way), but in this house I think it would be a crime.
I would watch these videos if they were an HOUR long. Your organizational and spreadsheet skills encourages me and my own planning in general. Problems I would have no idea what to do about, you problem-solve and come up with no-way? solutions and I realize that I can problem solve crazy difficult situations as well. The house has come such a long way now. Didn't think about all the possibilities this house has, but whatever you choose I'm sure this house will be well-loved and appreciated by all who inhabit it. I’m thinking you should do another short vlog on your other channel to encourage your subscribers to come here. I’ll continue watching and I know you and your team will work everything out.
I will as I get closer to posting new videos over here. I'm trying to get at least one old one updated here every day. Thanks for coming here and helping with the watch hours. The RUclips algorithm just picked up the back porch video and it got over a thousand views. We should have no problem hitting the minimums soon. I took a break from doing new videos over the holidays but I'm about to start that back up again. Is there anything in particular you'd like to see?
@@leaguekempnerhouse I’m enjoying these. Glad you took a break and hope this New Year brings you all the help you need in order to get the tasks ahead of you done properly. Thank you for all your doing.
I finally figured it out. You are a frustrated architect. You want to come up with the ideas on what to do with the house, what the design should be and then let all the people fall in love with it. I'm surprised though that you bought the house only being in it for a few minutes. Thats almost like sight unseen. Very risky! Its a good thing you stand to make a pretty penny on this one though. And also I was surprised to hear you talk about the idea of apartments in order to keep it profitable. That is blasphemy to us historians. Best bet is to find a single owner that is rich enough to buy the house sight unseen also. A cash buyer that is. They are out there.
I think you must have misunderstood. I never planned on making a profit on this house. My only motivation was to keep it from falling down because it was in such terrible shape and it had been on the market for a long time with no interested buyers. I knew exactly what I was getting into. I've done this my whole life. As for the apartment in the basement. It was originally built that way. The entire goal is to keep it as historically accurate as possible. Many of the homes in Galveston had tenant suites to produce income or as a place for relatives to live. And by the way, the last owner was seriously rich but never maintained the house and let it fall into this condition, so a single, rich owner is no guarantee of protection.
Not really. He is very supportive of what I do but we renovate houses for a living and on his days off he wants to rest or fish. I call this my weird hobby. It's the same kind of work but I love working on the League-Kempner House. If I need him to come help with something he will but I try not to impose too much.
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
Thanks. That shows you care.
Each time you see the rooms they look more dynamic. I know I will continue to enjoy the progress made.
The scale of the house takes a while to sink in. I'm still shocked every time I drive up at how big it is.

I never want to put my husband in the position to choose between me and the dogs. I know how that would turn out.

This journey has been full of twists and turns. I am so happy where things ended up. I think it will be great for the house.
Thank you for including us on your journey.
My pleasure! I'm so happy you found the channel. This house was meant to be shared.
You just answered my question, you don't expect to make a profit, it's the joy of saving a beautiful property.

Thank you.
You're welcome!
It sounds like you have a wonderful husband that supports you, how wonderful! My husband would be fishing as well. We are a couple of lucky girls.

See you next time!

I can imagine its been though to workout what to do with the house. Especially after finding so much needed doing.

Welllll I mean some sort of a break 🤪
Was it your intention to make a profit, or just break even?

Does your hubby not help?
