I was in the navy - and fought a marine - and I kicked his ass - then his buddies kicked my ass - then we all went drinking. It was a good time.
eviscero nice story man no matter how much crap branches give each other there like toddlers and can forgive each other minutes later and play around with God Bless you
Things that never happened
@@jp5063 If you say so
yeah right buddy quit yapping
all i did in bootcamp was iron clothes and sit in classrooms all day...and the first phone call home was def only 30 sec long
5 minute phone call?? Sheeit, more like 30 seconds Lol
Lmao I remember my phone call....My mom didn't answer lol
My last phone didn’t happen, my phone didn’t work, the buttons stuck. I’ll never forget that. Also when we first got our smurfs. “Take everything off, even your underwear “
4:43 I had the pleasure to have this man as my LCPO at Division 109 Bootcamp in January of 1999. during the great blizzard!....cold as shit!.....oh yeah the blizzard too! lol. PHC Logan
Cool! I went through May 99'.. Time flies
He was my RDC in 1998 as Petty Officer First Class and made Chief August 1998
The narrator is Peter Thomas, who proudly served in the US Army in WWII. He landed with the 1st Army as a PFC on Normandy on D-Day+1, and saw action in several battles in Europe. He is involved with the Army Big Red One reunion organization, and has led numerous tours of the Normandy battlefields. He is also one of the nicest guys I've ever met.
His voice is familiar to most Americans who grew up watching TV, but most don't know of his service to his country.
That’s awesome
@@Me-eb3wv We lost Peter in 2016 at the age of 91. Stella, his wife of nearly 68 years, predeceased him. Two very special people who supported me during a rather low time in my life.
Holy cow! The photographer’s mate chief was my RDC. We were his first division, sponsored by the Truman aircraft carrier.
This looks way more summer camp-ish than what I went through!
Navy bootcamp San Diego 1966. The best 13 weeks of my life. I can still remember those days like it was yesterday. It was old school intense but we still had a lot of fun. Our CO treated us boys like we were men.
Douglas, Los Angeles, CA
You’re in every old school navy video. How you been man everything ok?
Nice, thanks a lot, I'm proud to be apart of the navy as a military arm force. I appreciate the help.
This is actually a lot better than the other videos that are up and are totally narrated. They narrate a little bit, but they don't overdo it so you can see that there really ARE people yelling at you :P
Every single one of those recruits hit the wire on the Low Crawl! 😂😂
damn like this trainning video, im a marine and i just wanna shout out to my navy brothers on the uss denver. thanks bros, made a one hell of a deployment. airforce blows
You're going to have lots and lots of fun.
FYI I was in Great Lakes in 2007, and this is 100% a tamed down version.
Man, I wan to go again. I was there in 1983. This looks so cozy!! We did knuckle pushups on the grinders, 10 pushups in 1 hour 10 mins after our best inspection. I almost died in my rack after getting pneumonia and nobody cared.
I left 3 years ago. I know it has become so much pathetic more. I worked for my time in the boot camp and I appreciated it. Many years later, at sea, when I became seasoned I found what the RTC was producing. I, as the legal yeoman, was separating 1 rtc graduate every month.
Fucking smurfs
I can already tell some of those booters gonna go see the rainman
This video makes me nostalgic...this was the video I watched before signing up. But there has to be a new video out there...so much has changed!
I was just wondering, what are the general amount of days you have left until heading out to bootcamp once all of the recruiting steps are done with?
The Army and Marines are frontline soldiers who will see combat one on one, which means after bootcamp you are placed on the frontlines in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. Much respect to these brave men and women. The Navy is more behind the scenes support so I was told by a Navy recruiter.
Thanks you! You're absolutly right. I wish more people would understand that we are all on the same team.
@skxek The Navy Seals are a special operations unit. They highly respected in the special operations community because of there abilities. There training is considered by many as some of the toughest in the military there have been BUD/s classes where no one finished.
The only thing that is different today is: Better Bunks with built in lockers underneath each mattress, All new Buildings, New Battle-stations, Food served by Goodwill workers
I am a Marine been off of active duty a long time. I love the Marine Corps with all my heart, but all of this ones better than the other is bullshit we all have our mission. I watched and helped a Navy Corpman work on my buddy in the middle of a mine field while he was wounded himself, I respect what they do and we Marines couldnt do what we do with out them, I love you Doc Everett where ever you are.
Ooh Rah, Marine!
The intensity, the level of physical training, and the mind games. That's what isn't the same.
Basically it's when if your recruiter lied on any paperwork he/she submitted for you and you know about it, you have a chance to tell them about it.
For the record also, if you dont pass your swim/pfa by the time your division graduates, youll end up in another ship where it is just for recruits who dont pass your swim/pfa. You get more than enough chances to pass. Swim goes up to 17 retakes i heard. You're there until you pass it or until the CoC gives up on you... which is hard.
I have a family member there right now and the hardest part for her is the verbal degradation. In one instance SHE WALKED AWAY!!!! They gave her the choice of being ASMOED or go to RU to be evaluated. They didn't tell her that if they found her unfit and she was granted the opportunity to to continue, she would have to start from P days. She chose to come home than spend 13-14 weeks at b/c.
You have to keep in mind that, like other "boot camp" videos, this is geared toward parents. If any branches' boot camp was accurately portrayed, no parent would want their child to join the military.
Brings back memories. I went to bootcamp 24 years ago. Smart cards? lol, my how things have changed.
Every true sailor knows his build-up was not a result of a navy school but rather the heat of a long life experience.
Interesting Video. Navy training seems more organized than mine was with the Army (I remember the army training was monotonous sometimes). I always hate watching a video and seeing peole who haven't even gotten to any basic arguing about which is better. Great job on the video!
When I went in to bootcamp in 2000 that first night was a nightmare. They are screaming at you as soon as you get off the bus and you do not sleep at all that first night. They don't tell you that if you fail the PRT assesment that you will get ASMOWED (held back). If you fail the last PRT you will be held back.
What do Marines learn in their bootcamp? How to shoot a rifle. What do Navy guys learn in their bootcamp? How to navigate ships, how to fight fires, how to operate sonar, how to tie knots, how to prepare for a biological attack, how to signal, how to keep a ship's log, how to do underway replenishment, how to operate complicated computer and radio equipment, and lots of other stuff.
GO NAVY!
VOTE OBAMA!
This looks so relaxed... nothing like the firestorm I ran into on my 1st day at MCRD Parris Island! OHH RAH!!
When I saw those little cups I was like, "How the fuck am I supposed to fill that?". Then I almost pissed all over the recruiting office restroom.
Riddle me this, Batman: When a DI asked a recruit if he'd ever seen two turtles f'ing, and the recruit said "Sir, no sir!" what came next?
What was the "electric chair?"
This shit is from the 80's it is so different now
Hooyah.....I attended RTC Great Lakes Boot Camp from Monday September 8 through Friday November 14,1997 Division 481.🇺🇸
Unless they changed something, they make you drink water from a fountain, walk around a room, and drink again until you can piss.
good to see someone that actually understands the situation. we are all trained to contribute to the welfare of our homeland in some way, and even though the branches always have some sort of rivalry, in the end of the day, everyones a respected serviceman/woman.
respects to you sandbag32,
NFS Lee
This is an old video but it's the "newest" one they have. I'm in the DEP program right now and this is the one I received. I ship out 20081008 but hopefully, I will get it pushed sooner. MT(SS) rules! :D Go Navy!
i remember basic at RTC, Div 090, ship 13, 2002 man that was a good time, i miss the Navy, for those thinking about signing up definately do it, you will enjoy it, trust me
These days were torture. The sleep deprivation... Cumulative. On liberty I took a nap.
For those of you headed off to the MEPs, you will be able to destinguish people and the destined branch readily. The marines have egos, the army kids horse around and are loud, the navy people are observant, and the air force tends to be a little more exostential.I am proud to be in the navy. And I am proud of all my friend who followed their gut and got into their service.I couldn't do some of it and don't want to.Also I could just say I really love being near the ocean.
Good luck to you all.
listen, im a us navy sailor, and trust me, this whole boot camp crap is just a mental game. i joined last november and i learned that we dont work hard: we work smart. we dont need to be superman to do our job. we think about our problems and we find the best solution, not the fastest, not the one that could work, the one that WILL work.
continued--coming up with a way to pay for school (i.e. federal loans--they're not that difficult).. or you can choose to do both. But the Navy can help you somewhat financially to prepare for college (you won't have many expenses while in the military unless you drink it all up) and give you professional experience at the same time which would help aid you when you obtain your degree later.
The point of Navy bootcamp is to foster "initiative" -- if something is wrong, take care of it. Own it. This is a very helpful mentality on a ship where wires and pipes are exposed and all sorts of things can go wrong. Also, the Navy has less need for "highest rank is in charge" than other services. If there's a fire onboard and you know what to do, even if you're an E-2, you take charge even if there's a know-nothing of higher rank around. It's also why squids make terrible soldiers. :)
Marines actually are the best at flying. Marine pilots invented almost every technique that pilots all over the world use and continue to use to this day. Look it up, man.
they make it look like a lot of fun....
I was ready to re-enlist under the buddy system when my son was signing up....
this is the crap the media put out to try to make it seem extremely easy. I graduated RTC last year, and while everything was newer and more up to date, it was almost non stop getting yelled at for two months, and the fear of not knowing what's going to happen next. It's not even very physically intensive, it's just a mindfuck.
I am not a Navy man (Army) but I do know that to determine when you ship out is to go to a recruiter, go to MEPS and then you'll know when you ship out.
I gotta say, Navy boot camp looks a bit easier than the Air Force boot camp I went through. I remember there was like a pecking order within the trainees that was based on attire (civies, basic bdu's, bdu's with patches, dress blues, etc.), and the lowest on the pecking order were those trainees with civilian clothes on, everybody with civilian clothes still on got harassed and hazed by other trainees in bdu's performing dorm guard duty. But here the Navy gets their gear right away, lucky.
It's really the bicillin shot. You hear all kinds of stories on it. One is that they back up 30 yards to get momentum to stick the needle in. Another is the square needle in the left nut story. One CC said he had a recruit to start crying because he thought it was true.
Ah memories. I'd love to go back to basic. It was so easy.
As far as hair goes for the ladies, it must fall above the collar when you're in any type of uniform. Best way to find out if your hair is good or not is to throw on a dress shirt and check it out. You can't have a ponytail, but you can have it up in a bun. Most women just end up cutting it tho because it's too much work to constantly keep it up in a bun.
The RAN let you wear either glasses or contacts in recruit school, but I'd recommend wearing glasses for some modules like survival at sea or damage control. They don't give you any more glasses or contacts until you graduate recruit school and even then you have to apply for them.
Boot camp is different for everyone. People say it's easier after they've done it, no matter what service they enlist in. A year later they say it's no sweat. But a year earlier, some might not think so; while they're in.
I'm Navy and I had no problems with boot camp at all. But I've had friends in all different services and they all say the same thing: Boot camp is what you make it.
The Navy doesn't have a "boot camp" They have basic training. The branch of the military that has "boot camp" is the Marine Corps
Lol, I'm glad you mentioned it. I would had forgotten what p days were if you hadn't mentioned it!
the smart card is the navy's way of charging the recruits for the uniforms and necessary equipment they will need to complete the training. the card keeps track of what is purchased. Later, the amount spent will be taken from their pay.
man boot camp is way easier now then when i was in back in 95. They didnt give us nice comfy tennis shoes. we went EVERYWHERE in boots. We even ran in them.
wow, that's so different from when i went to boot camp. i went to Marines boot camp. a lot more yelling and chaos
I went through boot camp on April 25, 1986 through June 27, 1986. I was in Company 141, 11th Division. My Company Commanders were EMC Aguado & EM1 Frilles. Any else here around this time? Please reply.
I went through in April-June 1986. One guy got kicked out on his P-1 Day by convincing the personnel in the medical check-in that he was mentally unstable. And yes, he had been institutionalized before entry.
If you played sports in high school and can swim, You are good. I qualified as first class swimmer out of Boot Camp, dive motivator.
What year was this video filmed?
My whole family has done the services. It dosen't matter the service you do, because it's a service. YOU chose to defend the country, the president, and the rights of all Americans. We all just choose how we want to do it. HOOYAH!!
Well in Marine Boot Camp and they used Tear Gas on us. To us, it was the most painful/funniest part about boot camp. It does suck but its one hell of a laugh afterwords. Just keep in mind for you guys it only last's like a minute. Don't worry about it.
Brings back good and not so good memories. I went to bootcamp in june of 79. And i end up doing 20 yrs. it was hard and challenging and fun it finally paid off. and i was 39 when i retired.
Thanks ITRIEDEL. As you know when the shit hits the fan, both of us would come to each others aid. Although mostly we do different jobs, I know a lot of sailors, and they work their ass off for this country!! Good Job. O' Neil (USMC)
Each branch of the service serves a purpose. Navy basic training, while not as physically demanding. However, their training reflects the technical aspect of the operations of a Navy ship. Not a whole lot of use for more than rudimentary infantry training. These guys are learning how to keep a ship running and afloat. I am a former Marine, and I used to be amazed at how efficiently sailors run their ships, even if I did gig em a little about the uniform and appearance standards.
This is VERY similar to the video I watched on the bus on the way from O'hare to NRTC Great Lakes in Mar. 2006. Boot was HELL ON EARTH for the first two weeks, not so bad after.
I know, I know. You read about it on the OFFICIAL NAVY WEBSITE.
They'd never be biased or try to make themselves look good.
Just to let everyone know, there is a new Navy bootcamp video out and it's kick ass. I saw it today and it's nothing like this one. This one is old as crap. I'll go thru my chain of command and see if I can release it onto RUclips for your viewing pleasure. Have fun and God Bless Our Military! :)
In the Nay-vee! yes you can sail the seven seas.. In the Nay-vee! yes you can put your mind at ease..
Things have CHANGED. Some things were the same but when I went through it last August... things were a TON tougher.
come now people... this is the pr version of bootcamp. I went through both army and navy... though the army was more physically demanding. navy bootcamp was harder to me because it was more mentally strenuous.
i love how there are people here that aren't in any branch yet, but they still mock the navy... you aren't marines or soldiers yet... when you earn those titles, then we can talk.
Hoo-yah navy and Div 359, Ship 13 ( Marvin G. Sheilds). Went in June 31st to bootcamp. Graduated september 26th. Currently stationed in Pensacola, Fl for A-School...
For ya'll who say navy bootcamp is weak, go through it yourself if its so easy? Honestly, they don't show you the PT and IT they give us. This is a "politcally correct" version of bootcamp. It's obvious there no showing you the behind the scene work.
I was in the army but I have to say that the swimming requirements for navy people are usually pretty tough.
When I was in the Navy....'74 to '78....We were taught to step in time while marching. Is this a new way to march....some on left foot and some on right ?
Basically what will happen is your recruiter will set you up for the night at your nearest MEPS and you'll take the necessary physical requirements to see if you are physically capable and up to standards to join the U.S. Armed Forces. Then, you'll be done, and you'll eventually find yourself at MEPS again, where you will ship out. It's not an easy experience; it's rather nerve-racking. But each passing day is a day closer to making it full circle.
5 minute phone call...? that seems like an eternity compared to what you get at boot camp lol
I was sent to RTC Orlando in '87(C228). I was lucky enough to get "new consruction" orders for USS Wisconsin(BB-64)! I totally agree with the last comment- it was the best thing I ever did!
The bold chief with a mustache was my RDC Chief back in January-March 1999. His name was PHC Logan. He was tough as nails.
This is unrealistic. My first night of boot camp was constant yelling.
The Summer Whites and Winter Blues (both working uniforms) are being phased out by the New Navy Working uniform.
If you mean the dress uniforms, those are still and will always be worn.
Wow!!! I don't believe what I'm seeing
That was me about 10 years ago!!
I see some of my shipmates on this video!!
WOW it brings back many memories!!!
Can't believe it's been 5 years since i finish bootcamp. It was easy though and battlestation was pretty fun.
This is a cakewalk compared to RTC Orlando Fl. 1971
RTC is tough at first but after about a week its pretty easy. the p days are the toughest.
Old school navy boot camp video i graduated from navy boot camp 21 years ago
Im looking into Navy Reserves. Is being in the Navy boring? ( Fire Fighting
Boot camp is usually 9 weeks. Depending on the MOS (job) he/ she is doing, than it might be less or longer.
They make it look so nice. It was nothing like this. We only did our PT tests in that gym. All the other times were on the track and the grinder. I was in a 900 division. We drilled our balls off on the daily.
@budlight214 i have a question. i have heard a few things about what boot camp is like and im just wondering what you do on an average day. is there a lot of yelling? because ive heard that there is and there isn't. thanks.
You are so right about that, this is so easy compared to USMC boot camp.
"The RDC will wake that recruit up at 3:30 and make sure he gets personal hygiene." WHAT A CROCK! My division didn't get a shower until the 4th day and it was a 2 minute "Ricky Carwash."
@Robin360 I was there from April to June 1986. There were some bad ass CC's there then, too. PO2 Waldo (White Tornado), PO1 Spriggs (Little Hitler), PO1 Ward (Sgt. Slaughter), Hinkey (Mad Masher). Waldo mashed a company because they were giving the Company PO's shit. After 1 hour, he called the PO's back in & they all did one push-up. One SR shouted that was only 1 for the PO's. Waldo wanted to know who said it. The offender didn't confess so he mashed again for 1 hour, minus the PO's.
