    I just got my Microcosm. The first mode I clicked with was also the ARP> I need to MIDI something in there. This box is really interesting. I'm thinking of it as a Modular type deal. I'm a guitar player, but I have a modular synth set up too. I have it in a EHX Parallel looper, at the moment. It's not that hard to figure out, if you look at the manual, and understand how to change the Global settings, to suit your needs. Thanks for this! It's so cool!

    Not sure if you already figured this out, but the latency issue you have when using it as a send effect is the latency introduced by the DSP of the Microcosm itself.

    • @tonvandewiel2510
      @tonvandewiel2510 9 месяцев назад

      No, it's not the DSP-latency because then it could be adjusted with the delay settings in the external-audio-effect itself. I also experience a 7ms delay that is not adjustable anywhere in Ableton. It is a strange thing not present in any of my external send FX.

    Sick.
    I bougth a ChaseBliss Mood instead of Microcosm, and was surprised that even it can get Midi In to control parameters out of it, its internal clock is not synced with Midi In Clock. That is a deal braker for me and made me regret my decision about both. Mood is still pretty awesome though, but a bit trickier to play with it in musical context.
    Would be awesome if you could get the Infinite Jets and make a review as well.
    Cheers!!

    • @ReddenDoom
      @ReddenDoom 2 года назад

      The Inifinte Jets is cool but super finicky. Its an FV-1 pedal which was super disappointing and the build quality was pretty bad, terrible to open up - reminded me of opening Caline pedals. Its also artificially large and could easily have been the size of a Meris pedal. The user presets don't seem to save super accurately either and change from day to day, it takes a lot of fighting to get it to do what you want. Add to that that the only way to make-up for volume loss is with a super harsh gain channel and its a real fiddly pedal. Cool toy for sub $200, anything over that is a rip-off since all FV-1 hardware is the same, you only pay for the algorithms and whatever the designers add on top of the FV-1 platform. With a smaller size, a higher fidelity chip, an easier time dialing in long holds outside manual mode (getting the hold to last perpetually is super hard outside manual), and a basic volume control for wet & dry with some headroom and it would have been a serious pedal!

    Dope beat. That hit all the high spots. The Microcosm definitely adds some special sauce to the mix - really gels the drum parts together. These genres of electronic music need space for the drums to breathe. Too many times I've head a killer track but the drums are mixed way too dry. This was not one of them, my friend. Keep the groove going....

    • @RickyTinez
      @RickyTinez  3 года назад +4

      Yea super interesting point. I’ve realized I’ve been slowing my house tracks down (115-119) over time mainly to give some more breathing room between sounds!
      Dry drums are right for certain things but not far my minimal approach to percussion haha

    • @BottleBass1977
      @BottleBass1977 3 года назад +1

      @@RickyTinez Right! I think if the arrangement is sparse then adding a wetter drum mix sounds better, especially if you don't want the perc too far forward in the mix. I guess if you're mixing a tighter house groove the drums are more focused and forward, with less panning of the individual parts in the stereo field.

    "Clocked to the ERM" is a term that refers to a process of synchronizing musical devices using a device called an ERM (or Event and Rhythm Manager). Basically, the ERM is a tool that allows you to sync up different musical devices so that they play in time with each other.
    This is important because it allows you to create more complex and interesting musical arrangements, without having to worry about things being out of sync. It's a bit technical, but the basic idea is that the ERM generates a clock signal that all the other devices can follow.

    Ricky, as a fellow sync over-thinker - unless you are really into doing a lot of long takes, why not record all the hardware into the MPC and do everything there and then export stems into Ableton? It is very freeing. Plus you can auto sample VSTis into the MPC as well. I'd love to see you try this, maybe I'm just crazy but I am really digging how tight this workflow is.

      What’s up Landon, I don’t think you are crazy at all! I’ve been thinking about doing this also.
      I think it’s just so hard for me to picture my studio in a completely different set up around the MPC that it’s a bit intimidating to undo it all hahaha.
      But I will see when I only had my MPC 4000 and that was my workflow I never ran into synchronization issues ever! What a wonderful world

    • @RickyTinez
      @RickyTinez  3 года назад +2

      Thanks Florian! For this set up I usually just track it all in.
      If I hear something cool I’ll record it in before I screw it up. And if I hear something cooler later on I’ll record that in before I screw that up. This allows me to have different takes that might come in to play at different points of a song even though they might be similar.
      It’s enough of a change to keep things interesting. The freezing flatten is fun and a bit quicker but I actually like performing small changes as it records in with everything.
      I do try and keep all recorded tracks at separate as possible, but sometimes for the sake of simplicity I will record things with the effects on them as well.

    How would you square up the microcosm against the ottobit in regards to getting clitchy in a synced manner, and their filters? It seems the microcosm is such a multitool, but i can't make up my mind on the glitch/stutter/bitcrush department?

      I would say if you have the money go microcosm. But if you’re specifically looking for a glitch style pedal the Ottobit wins. It’s a bit more focused in that area where the microcosm is a bit more broad because of its Swiss army ambient knife approach

      @@RickyTinez Thanks. Since i am combining it with a Digitakt, i should probably save up for the Microcosm for two crazy multitools.

      @@RickyTinez Do you have any experience with the Red Panda Particle V2, and if so, do you think it could be another decent option for glitchy granular stuff? The microcosm sounds amazing but the cost is an issue.

      Jonathan Jung Johansen, have you pulled the trigger on a purchase yet? If so, how are you liking the combination? Digitakt + Microcosm are both sitting in my cart right now as I ponder the purchase.

    Can this be used for Live FX for hip hop in the same sense as an sp404 or modbap “Per4mer”?. Been trying to get something for live fix or automating fx and the quality of this is nice but idk if I’m undertaking its use correctly…?

      Minilogue XD, Elektron Analog Four, Elektron Digitone. Can't for wrong with those.

      he seems pretty into the Novation Peak and Hydrasynth could also get into that territory. It really depends on what sort of techno you wanna get after. Analog retro, industrial or modern and synthetic? There are a lot of options for each, minilogue XD def not a bad bet or anything with wavetables and/or FM.

    Great video! I wish everyone would stop pushing this unit so hard, I'm trying to not buy one! LOL BTW, I think the title of this video is wrong, it says "Arp" is the preset you've been using, but you talk about "Seq" in this one. :)
