Its nice to see a video of someone that's taken the time to learn the tool and share what they've learned vs. only sharing their thoughts on how the machine didn't meet their expectations of how it should work and showing nothing but complacency. Keep it up 🤘
I dig that you didn't give up on it, after your initial impressions your first time around. You're like that cool friend that sees the good in everyone, even though they may not be exactly perfect. It's still not for me (I'm all about the Circuit Tracks with external gear), but I appreciate seeing what it can do, and I get why it may be great for its target audience.
Amazing video, glad you are vibing with the Move. Makes me happy seeing more people having fun with theirs! I've been writing tracks away from my desktop rig with mine and it's been making me feel so much better about music again. 💛
Neat! All organic workflow, nudge, tap to see what you twist, yes note or session mode. Everyday makes appreciate it more. Love mine too. Cool grooving, Ricky! ❤
Capture is what sold me on the Move. It completely changes the way you approach jamming. It feels like it frees your mind and lets you improvise way easier.
I’ve had a couple of those arpeggiator moments with the Move this week, and either I’ve figured it out or had to look it up. On both occasions I had that same face. Ableton makes it so simple, that it’s easy to overlook the obvious. Move is a well thought out device, with a great workflow.
Longer than 32 steps loop handling is so much better on the Move compared to the Tracks. But quick, performance Circuit workflow is better in my opinion. I love jumping to a new circuit Project, jamming away with the effects, filter and even changing loop length. Then jumping back to the saved Project to continue with the track. Working with my bass station 2 in conjunction with the Tracks is also a really great experience. But, longer patterns/loops, managing samples/packs, working in combination with the Circuit Rhythm and actually finishing tracks, is a real pain. I had a project on the Move, made a copy of it, with some different synth parts. I then sync’d it to the cloud, fired up Ableton. Opened up the project, dragged over the other synth tracks from the copy of the project (so I then had 6 tracks). All done in seconds. It was a massive joy, and so ridiculously easy.
in the Akai Force we have a similar issue when using the capture button... the solution is very simple and I hope Ableton implements it. They just need to add a "Trim clip" so it trims the loop selection and gets rid of everything else, sending us back to bar no. 1
Funny thing about this is your videos keep making me look at my Push 3 differently. I start thinking, like, why am I not using presets more? Or, why am not making better use of Ableton's internal sounds? I have suite after all... I got so used to using my external synths, seeing this is reminding that there are many things just outside of the little box I've put myself in.
Great track as always! Totally agree with your point at 7:58 - with proper midi I/O, this can be 4 channel multi-timbral for live settings. It’d be game over for a lot of less flexible gear. Sounds beautiful but without that feature I’m not sure I should keep this thing.
No midi is a big letdown, even just sync would have been dope EDIT: hey I just thought about something, can you pan on the move? If yes, maybe you could sync it with the p6 or with the good old po33 by sending a (sampled) sync signal?
@@shachar87l sort of but not - midi in over usb only recognizes one channel at a time right now and doesn’t recognize cc’s or clock in. It’s a bit like an auto channel where you can play in notes on the currently on track. Good for entering sequences but not if you are trying to control with other gear or use as a sound module. Ableton has heard this request and said specifically that “we hear you @rickytinez” according to a CDM post, so hopefully this gets enhanced soon.
Better way to find out if such a device is for you than any review! (Also we‘re 4 mins in and I’m genuinely grooving to your two chord loop xD) Thanks! 🙏
I don’t unerstand all the hate about this box… have it since a week and its totally awesome! Capture, undo, mic, effects, arp, drum with 16 sound with pitched pads… what else you need?
happy for Abelton users. would love it if there was a hardware groovebox for fl studio in this style. All DAWs lack spontaneity, so something more performative is always welcome in my book
It's really weird they don't have per note probability; or did I miss something. They have it in live; I hope that it comes with a software update bc that is a critical feature for me.
Love it! Btw, there’s a little bit of high pitched hum in my earphones. Trying to deal with usb hum in my studio, will let you know if I find a fix. Loopop mentions ferrite ring cable clips
@@RickyTinez Are you still playing with the Isla s2400? They are releasing a DSP card expansion that will allow VST/CLAP plugins, with other new updates such as parameter automation for the 8 faders (as is done on octatrack) It would be really cool to have a new video from you on this machine. They made a lot of updates after their first video. Thanks!
I know what you mean about the 1. In note - it’s corrected by a simple button press that drags all the notes so easy to corrrect but not found the way yet on move. Hopefully just an oversight
WHOA! Did you see what happened to the nudge value when you doubled the loop, @Ricky Tinez? For me here (firmware 1.1.2) it went from 20% to 14%! And now I can nudge it only to 14, 24, 34, … percent! 😮
@RickTinez For the life of me I can‘t figure out how you managed to add this loop at around 10:47 in the video. Where‘s this menu with these „Stabs“, „Texture“, „Vocals“ etc. entries??? Can‘t find anything in the manual either. 😢
this sounds great! ableton move coming out made me look at ableton note again and I've made some neat stuff with it :) the ableton presets and sound engines sound really nice (and they are basically the same between the two). I do wish there were, like, twice the scenes though.
This is a really dope tune but I think you are only scratching the surface of the device. I hope you keep the videos starring the move coming, it’s a pleasure to see you work on / with it. Thank you. ❤
Greetings from Portugal, Ricky! Great video, thank you! I have two quick questions about the Move: are sidechaining and probability features available? Do you know if they’re included? Thank you my friend. Peace ✌✌
How come I ve never seen you with an MC 707 on your hands?!Based on your workflow it will help you immersively a lot to come up with something quick and the presets in there are really good with a lot of variety!!The 8 bar loop is a little frustrating but it is like a little ableton inside a box!! If move and Mc 707 had a child i believe the end result would be something wild and wicked at the same time,...hahaha
For me the Move is really similar to Roland MC101, but with a better sampling, and worse I/O options. May be wrong as my knowledge of devices is limited :)
😊 Mr. Tinez! Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like ur really digging the Ableton Move! Yes? Caz I think I'ma pick one up.. and just imagine, with future firmware updates...😊
Haha it's like you're cheating and just jamming out. Fun little unit; not expecting it to be the end-all be-all but I'm excited about say, jamming some stuff out on lunch breaks. Thanks for the jam, it really helps understand what's going on and how to use the unit. I assume you can't do the multiple key pitch shifting (Push 3 does this but I think it's the MPE, like pitch bending multiple notes different directions at once)?
Great as usual Ricky ! Do you think that the DT II with move would be a good combo ? I guess that the Move has to send midi clock to the DT to sync them ?
Is it me or does this not sound as fat as the Roland P-6? Haven't seen as many demos/reviews of the Move but it sounds a bit tame compared to the P-6, particularly drums.
I think they're some of the best velocity senstive pads i've felt especially for the price. Similar to MPC for sure. Maybe i was just juiced up and slamming them haha

this, exactly !
100%
Ricky is a great teacher. I come away from his vids with an unfamiliar device thinking I could pick it up and get started.
haha! Thanks for the kind words!
Very clever of them to make a piece of gear the shape of a youtube video
@@urbanorangutan Whoa…

They definitely knew what they were doing here 😂. They cooked a good one this time around
LOL its exactly 16:9... 👀 jk not sure
It does fit the frame nicely 👌

Classy as ever. A+++ will tune in again. Every week like always. Great work!
Capture, Undo and the loop length handling already seem like a big upgrade from the Circuit Tracks workflow i'm used to. Seems fun :)
