Crime isn't mutually exclusive to Chicago or Detroit. Why the need for everyone to reference Chicago every time there is a crime, especially considering its murder rate is 20th amongst all large cities in the US? It's such a simpleton response.

I am from the Bay Area, but have lived in Sacramento CA since 1996. I've been in my current house for the last 20 years and we had our first shooting on our street 2 months ago. We actually had 2 shootings within 24 hours. No one was injured at the first shooting, but a guy was shot in the stomach at the 2nd shooting. (He survived) My point is if this can happen on my quiet one block street, it can happen anywhere. It made it real for me and my neighbors. We don't feel safe anymore. The illusion of feeling safe is gone. And we appreciated everything the sheriff's department did and is doing to try and protect us. They did apprehend the alleged shooter and his trial starts at the end of this month. My take on crime in this day and age is we need to lock up the criminals. They have almost no fear of spending time in prison and it has made them bolder. There need to be consequences for bad behavior. Don't give them a lollipop and send them on their way. Lock them up and throw away the key. That's what we need to do. I'll donate my tax dollars to build more prisons and buy more oatmeal to feed them. Get them off the streets and keep them off the streets. They don't deserve their freedom.

Except police funding is an all time high. So police havnt been defunded at least not in city's run by any Democrat. As a matter of fact. Police get defunded more under republican run city's and county's. Its also a fact that theirs more crime per capita in republican run states than their is in democratic run states.

I live in San Francisco, you can add a 1,000 officers to the department, but if you don’t allow them to do their jobs then it is worthless! Officers need to be able to have discretion and not spend hours filling out paperwork why they did a basic function of their jobs!
