Thanks for finding my video and pressing play!
Don’t you just love random routes from little airports? Newquay-Cornwall to Dublin is one of those!
This was a pleasant short flight on board an aircraft which is an antique by European standards - 27 years old - older than a lot of my subscribers, I guess! I also love the fact that Newquay has a small airport lounge as well (thanks Priority Pass!), which had only me and one other visiting that morning. It was sad to see at least four Monarch aircraft parked in various places at Newquay, awaiting distress buyers. RIP Monarch and thanks for the memories - I remember flying on an A300 from Gatwick to Malaga like it was yesterday.
Newquay is a long way away from the bustle of Heathrow and Gatwick and is a pleasure to use. It’s also got a long and proud history as RAF St Mawgan (and even earlier as RAF Trebelzue). Cornwall is a really underrated part of the world - and an underrated region of England, come to think of it.
Enjoy the report.
Do you have any ideas for future trip reports? Something you've never seen on RUclips before? Why not suggest it to me in the comments? I read every single one! 👍🏻
Enjoy the video, and thanks for watching. If you subscribe, then thanks for being part of the channel!

I agree with you when you say “ I love flying with older aircraft”. I feel as thought they have passion! Great video!
When you say u have child memories on monarch so do I because last year I went to Turkey and just as we were about to land I was sick everywhere 😂😂😂
This Chanel proves you don’t need fancy cameras or editing software to still produce an amazing product
(He films and edits on a iPhone 7 using i movie)
Will Warde-Norbury very true, look at Sam Chui, worlds biggest aviation blogger/vlogger with just a cell phone, GoPro and edits on iMovie. He has like 200K+ subscribers.
I have done 1 flight review ryanair from FAO to NCL and it was rubbish cos I used a Samsung tablet gonna use a proper camera though this year on Jet2 and easyJet
"This is the whole terminal!" Did you fly from there before this terminal was built. The old building was like a Nissan hut with the same lady that checked you also serving tea from an urn and home made fruit cake ( which she probably made as well! )under a glass dome. Your baggage arrived on a trailer behind a tractor! Loved it! So homely and relaxed.
Excellent TR! You really are one of the best RUclipsrs filming airline trip reports. Thanks!
+Francis Bagbey Thanks Francis, I’m flattered!
Great video!
My favourite trip repot you have ever made!
A difficult trip report to film! A combination of scratched windows, rain, dull lighting and a lack of space to move made this one tough to produce...but I hope you enjoy it! I’m filming the Q+A video this evening in a hotel (I’m on a special mission - train fans, I’m filming something cool for you tomorrow). Thanks for your patience guys!
+Sydney Aviation Spotter Yes for some of the wide angle shots.
Cool more train videos😁😁😁😁😁😁. I adore trains they're like my favorite form of transportation.
Paul's Trip Reports I’m taking a guess of the First Class 800 Journeys? As they start tomorrow on the GWR Mainline
+LazyGuy222 2 Wait and see!
When you started filming the safety card I thought you must be struggling to find something of interest. 😀
Great video! Going with Ryanair from Gatwick to Cork on Saturday
You make the best reports considering what you have to deal with....keep up the good work
Awesome report Paul! It is always fun flying these less known routes in older aircraft. That plane is pretty worn. Newquay seems like a fun little airport.
Brendan
Ah good old CBK! Flew on her counterpart, EI-EHH in January and loved it! Great video!
Makes me remember my first flight on a Fokker Friendship, it was much smaller though!
That plane leaned forward during landing, so visually all the trees I saw through the window leaned backwards.
Strange feeling!
This, as always, an excellent report!
Love all the extra info you give. Great vid!
+Alex Hart Cheers Alex! 👍🏻
I used to live a mile from Idelwild Airport (JFK) and the smell of jet fuel in the morning was like perfume to me! Now I'm 2-3 miles from Newark Airport (EWR) and I still love it!
another nice flight video. I love the older regional airliners to! like the looks of the atr 42! rob
+rob balboni Thanks Rob!
Nice catch of the Stobart truck passing below on short final! :D
+anto687 I didn’t notice that!
Funny, As the aircraft he was flying was owned by Stobart Air (Operating for Aer Lingus)
Great chanell, just found it. Had to sub. Love your honest reports. One of my first holiday experiences was on monarch airlines so I too was a little sad. Love your travels on the Irish carriers.
This is one of the best flying videos from you
Great to see you were down in Cornwall. I love Newquay, but have never actually been to the airport!
another great report paul well done
Great effort . Enjoy your trip reports. Subscribed. Keep it coming .
+MrWahid1969 Thanks!
You're not going to show us you entering the pin# for the lounge?? ☹️
+GQguy24 Well I guess it wouldn’t do much harm, I mean how many people watching this are likely to need it? 😂
I enjoyed the scenery even though there was a scratched window you did an excellent job!
I Love Turboprops. Makes the trip feels more adventurous
Awesome video mate!
Have a great trip to Dublin mate enjoy
Great video absolutely love it 😊
Excellent video, your turbulence kind of reminds me of the time I, with along with another 100+ people in a L-1011 of TWA, waited on the taxiway in JFK because of thunderstorm, and pilot decided to wait it out, tuned out we sat on he taxiway for 2-1/2 hrs before the darn storm left the NY Area.. that was back in 1976. I loved the L-1011 and the B747. Have a great Sunday! :o)
I love your you tube travels Paul. I know Newquay airport well. Never flown from it though.
Great vid as always 👍
good video and smooth landing in windy condition !:)
Another good report despite the weather,& yes i love the smell of aviation fuel : )
4:59 right when you saud that, a I heard a strong gust of wind blow outside! No kidding!
Beautiful Video !
I used to enjoy flying the ATR-72 when ASA flew them (Atlantic Southeast Airlines). Flew ATL-DHN-ATL on one many a time.
It smells so good like when you’re at Heathrow near the terminals
Another great report, Paul. I really like Stobart and have flown them several times between Dublin and the Isle of Man. If you have not visited Ronaldsway, I would really recommend it. There is a great WW2 history, and a friend of my dad’s here in Canada flew in and out as part of the RCAF. It was so great to hear his stories about how the base (and the entire island) was used during the war. Your shots of the Cornwall Coast are amazing.
+Richard C I’m hoping to get to the Isle of Man at some point!
First video I've watched with turbo prop.. Wow the growl of the engines
Nice video!, good to see something British made!
How about lands end airport to the Isles of Scilly? As a bonus, on the way back you can take the ferry to Penzance!
+Susan Hatchett I already have a plan for that! You can go out one way on the Skybus and back on the ferry. I’ll get round to doing that some point next year I hope. :-)
Excelente Jato Ótimo Vídeo
very handy airline for us in ireland or those in the uk looking to travel to more obscure parts of ireland, travelled once with stobart very good service and now gone today which i'm sure sure you have seen by now paul
AER LINGUS IS MY FAVOURITE AIRLINE AND RIP MONARCH AIRLINES (1967-2017)
I flew into here once a few years ago with BA when they used to fly to NQY
Ah Newquay.... Smiled when I saw the Gatwick Flybe arrive there in the video.
Flew Plymouth-Newquay-Gatwick in the late 1980's - in those days an Islander!! Plymouth terminal was even smaller than Newquay now.
Plane had just 2 crew, a stewardess who's jump seat was a fold down on the exit door & the pilot.
If the flight was busy, some trustworthy looking passenger was selected to sit up front with the pilot with instructions to keep their feet to themselves! Sadly, I wasn't the one selected, although a friend of mine had been lucky on a Glasgow-Islay flight. That would never happen these days!!
I fly an ATR 72-500 in my FSX Flight Simulator- even in Air Lingus livery! Like the livery very much.
Hi Paul, are you trips work related or just for the joy of flying and making Vids.
Thank you, this was just what I was looking for :) I like small airports even with exec. lounge 30 yards lol! :D
PS. Could you tell me whether check-in is standard 2hrs before flight for Newquay domestic flights?
Hi Paul, I enjoy my Sunday morning starts here in Florida with coffee, and a trip report. GREAT. I don't rain, clouds, scratched windows, etc, and long and I'm moving (traveling). I am a big train fan, so looking forward to that. Take care.
+John Rice Thanks John! Another train trip will be posted very soon! Hopefully tomorrow night (UK time)...a little bonus.
Thanks great trip
I used to fly monarch over the other low budget carriers because there service was second to none. My first time flying with them was back in 1988 to Orlando on there a300. The year after was with another British airline caledonian on there DC-10.
Just subscribed!! My husband is a BA pilot short haul from LGW. His favourite airport and highly recommends you go there just for the landing is FNC!! Great videos
+Jane Chapman Thanks Jane - I was in Funchal as a kid and experienced the landing for myself. It’s one of a kind!
Great as always. Can you recall the stand number at Dublin? Seemed a little remote.
I don't know why but I love walking across the tarmac to an aircraft
Great video. What amazes me is how Newquay can be so successful yet Manston in Kent failed over and over. I’m guessing Southend, also run by stobart/stagecoach put the final nail in the coffin.
Congrats on 14k
ahhaha that lounge made me laugh. Nice little hop on the ATR just did my 5th and final TLL run this past weekend, I enjoyed the ATR from TLL-HEL, but the flight from HEL-TLL was very rough at 9500FT , just constant bumping around the entire ride.
+When I Travel The World LOL, that little flight makes me laugh. It’s about 60 miles? Like flying from London to Birmingham or something!
Very enjoyable trip report Paul - despite all the challenges you had to face. I ve never been in such a small lounge... and yes I do like the smell of jet fuel. As a kid, it was always synonymous with holidays. And I also love boarding from the apron, I did it once on a 747 operated flight. It was a mighty sight. Thanks for sharing your experience, take care
+Speedbird1 FLY Thanks. You should see the lounge at Angers - just four seats!
Are you sure it wasn't the restroom?
I think The ATRs are fitting perfectly for aer lingus. I really love that airline. It’s one of those rare airlines which already gives you the emotion of already being in its homeland. Not at least I really love their colors. It’s not the same boring white with some colored stabilizer as the others do.
Hopefully you’ll travel more with good old shamrock airlines ;)
Bad news...from now on all aer lingus aircraft are getting the very colours you mentioned.Green rudder, winglets and engines!!
"over 9000!" oooh I see what you did there!
9:43 thats europe from above guys.. beautiful..
just woke up 1st thing? coffee? nah pauls trip report !
4:43 I absolutely love it. A helicopter landed at our school and it smelt of it
that was amazing
Hello Wingin' It! Paul Lucas, Can you do a flight report video on the ATR 42-600.
Paul, please talk more into the camera. Tell us whats going on and what your thoughts are. The writting accross the bottom is good, but we want to get how your feeling. Please talk more into the camera.... But great movies, we are loving them... keep it up.
Can't really talk while filming as one doesn't know in advance how the final vid will be edited. Best to either narrate with text or narrate in post.
Thumbs up for dragon ball reference
Nice vid 😊
Great video...I also enjoy flying (short haul) in the old 'uns! It would be a dream come true for me to have a trip in a DC3. I also like the way you use imperial yards & feet, instead of metric nonsense.
+john price Thanks John. I’ve been toying with the idea of going for a flight in a Dehavilland Dove at some point....
Was that a Flybe Embraer E190? Must be quite a long runway for such a small airport!
Hello,
Great trip report!
I have a quick question. Will you be coming to Australia any time soon?
+Adrian S Thanks Adrian! I fit all this in around work and holidays so Australia is just a bit too far, I’m afraid - logistical nightmare!
Paul good job again. Is there passport control on that leg? I have flown ATR, but will not again in cold climates. Icing issues.
you mention the scratched windows.....that was the FIRST thing i noticed lol !! they WERE scratched...!!
uuummm you nicked food from the lounge !!! 😉😉 that plane to me sounded squeaky...lol...i also noticed the ripped seat in front of urs... Nice vid overall 😊😊😊👍👍👍
Hi Paul! first of all, love your videos!! hehe now, i am planning a trip to the UK with friends by the en of 2019, can you recomend me the places than we MUST see in the Uk? thanks for your time!!! and keep the great videos!!
Went on a atr from bangalore to goa very cool.
0:29 My Apartment is behind youuuuu!!! 😍
oh you live in Rocklands? I did for a few years when I was on with BMIBaby
Hello, just subscribed.
+DAVID GRIFFITHS Thanks David!
Another great trip report Paul - a little bit quirkier than normal. The views of Cornwall after take off are out of this world. Did you mean seat 11F as there are only four seats in the row?
+Brian_D Thanks Brian. Yep, it’s definitely numbered 11F - no idea why. :-)
Nice small aircraft. However Stobart Air should change or refurbish the seats and repaint the whole bird. Small aircraft doesn't have to be outdated.
Very nice...
Another great video. I was wondering if Newquay airport was an old ww2 airfield. Don't think I would like to sit under the wing. Cornwall has great scenery. Even better from the air.
+Paul Whitear Newquay was RAF St Mawgan (which was an extension of RAF Trebelzue, on google maps you can see a weird kind of second airfield attached to the main one)
I can't help but think of Victoria Wood: 'It was quite an old plane... I sat next to the Rear Gunner!' ;@)
Out of all the seats and all the windows, Paul get's a window seat with a messed up window
Man I love these trip reports. I also like psychedelic trip reports though lol.
At 4:32 when u said (you can’t beat boarding by walking across the airfield) where u being sarcastic or do u actually like walking across the airfield
Or even just the ramp :)
I fly frequently from Newquay to Dublin then New York from there. I'll be honest, I've never sat anywhere close to to lounge in Newquay Airport. I am only just now discovering they have a lounge.
Wow that plane seems a bit hard up... it is nice to see a travel vlogger who takes normal routes on normal planes and trains that normal people can afford... it’s cool to see the luxury side but always nice to see the actual options I can afford... 👍🏼
Interesting video I must say - tho this type of plane doesn't do my real fear of flying any good at all - fascinating stuff - thank you !
Paul, would rather have a long runway than a short one!
who did monach sell their planes to?And how many did they have, flew with them 1 time, subbed, lol at 12.08 im irish and cant speak gaelic
How was the popcorn? Enjoyed your trip report! I wish I was brave enough to fly in a turboprop plane again, but after a bad experience with severe turbulence I'm too scared 😱
+Steph Thanks Steph! No aircraft has ever been blown out of the sky by turbulence but I know it’s unsettling. Even I don’t like it! (Popcorn was ace btw) 👍🏻
Paul , a question ! Does turbulence bother you at all ? I must admit it scares the crap out of me at times 🧐🧐
Ahh my local airport :) So small
Paul..please do more sleeper trains
Cool music
that phone cover flip haha
OH PAUL, THOUGH AN IRISH FLIGHT CLASSIC, THIS "AER LINGUS REGIONAL ATR 42 PROPJET'S WORTH ITS USMOST AIRLINK' AND TO Y'ALL, 'AIRLINKERS, WELCOME TO IRELAND'!!
The monarch aircraft at newquay have been brought by Thomas cook
So they're going to regularly check while you're in the lounge if you have this voucher... nice executive level of service there!
The voucher is to get a coffee from a shop, not to enter the lounge.
Have a look at that window!!! Sham Sham Sham!!!!!!!
