We used the exact atm today (21st January). No fees for us. What you have to do is, do not use their conversion. That means reject their offer to charge the credit card with the amount of you home country‘s currency (for us €). Select „no“ and let them charge you the amount in VND.
I had to pay a fee of 50,000 using this machine (February 1). I have a Dutch bank and these are the costs the machine charged, not my bank. Checked again yesterday and now the fee was even higher (100,000). Luckily I could still cancel the transaction. The machine to the left of it didn't charge me anything, so it's sometimes good to try multiple ones!
Update for you: I've been at the airport today and withdrawed from the HSBC machine that mentioned in this video 3 million VND($123) which is currently the maximum that you can withdraw per one withdrawal at that specific machine. I used Visa credit card from my home country which is not belong to HSBC and NO FEE exactly as I mentioned in this video
@@David.Robinowichthank you for your detailed video mate! Really appreciate it, it helps a lot. I was stressed a lot last few hours while waiting for my flight to hcmc. I’m arriving late at night. I assume those ATMs to be working 24/7 ?
For those using Revolut, I used this exact machine on December 2023 after watching this video, and there were no charges at all. I withdrew 10 million VND without any problem. A message appeared on the screen informing me that my bank might charge me, but revolut did not add anything (as expected) 😉
Been there a couple of days ago (October '24). They didn't charge me anything as you said. Cheers! I used Revolut card, selected visa credit and accepted the transaction. If you do that on the weekends Revolut can charge u 1%, depending on which kind of account you have.
I always use this bank whenever i find it abroad, they never take fee. It's truly amazing. I think it's a Hong Kong bank because it was everwhere in HK. I used it also in Egypt zero fee.
@3eyedmaggott Sorry to hear, but the information is 100% truth. The HSBC in Tan son nhat airport and in most parts of Vietnam doesn't take fee, but some machines of HSBC will charge fee and I'm warning this in another video: ruclips.net/user/shortsADNoySoLBKA?si=ovkAxl3cJ7V5R9GM Second option is that with Starling card which is a unique card and not the regular one that most people use, HSBC will take fee. Most of people don't use the starling card and of course I'm talking about the regular international card that most of Travellers use
Difficult to say, it's all about the same. My advice to you is if you exchange your money useally Gold shop in Vietnam have the best rate. You can go also to any branch of bank and exchange your money
Shouldn't have fee, but don't worry, in case there is a fee the ATM machine will warn you and mention how much fee it takes and then you have the option to cancel and try another machine

I used the exact hsbc machine today took out 6.8 million, machine prompted me that I’d pay 136000 ..service charge.. my card will refund it but it’s not free anymore
Did you have the ATM convert to USD even you took out the money? ATM will usually charge extra when you ask the machine to display in USD rather than the local currency
@@David.Robinowich I tried today, the HSBC machine wanted a 5000 fee for a visa debit card (Chase UK). So I took a Grab (paid with card in the app) to district 1 and used the VPBank ATM, no fee and didn't even offer the convert currency scam, highly recommend that one. 1M VND withdrawal appeared in account as £33.50 and the rate in a google is £33.60.
@javierballestatagarro638 Hey. Yes I have withdrawn money many times from this ATM but I used Visa and Master card and 100% no fee with those kind of cards, but I'm not sure about starling
@@David.Robinowich The ATMs there pass the fee on to your bank who will turn around and pass it to you. It's actually higher that way since it's after the fact and you don't see that side.
My bank in Germany offers me free withdrawel in foreign currencies in bounds of the VISA conversion Rates, so IT IS Not Always true that there are fees

May I ask if you have a Visa or Master card?
@David.Robinowich The first time I went there it was a Mastercard. Second time was Maestro, so a debit card instead of a credit one
@minouchejansen5415 You know what, I'll go there myself soon and withdraw money, I'll update you if anything has changed

Does visa debit card from india work as well?
I believe yes
Visa is Visa
Does the HSBC ATM give a fair exchange rate - USD to VND?
Yes. more or less as any ATM in Vietnam
what is the maximum withdrawal limit of this ATM?
As far as I remember around 6 million VND ($250)
If you want to withdraw more money, then just withdraw again, there isn't fee 🙂
thanks@@David.Robinowich
Will visa classic card work in hsbc?

HI
You can withdraw only the local currency in Vietnam. There isn't a special exchange rate or extra charge for that
I'll try this HSBC machine this Wednesday and see what happens I have Revolut, Starling, Monzo, UK Chase and more cards to try.
I'm not sure about these cards. I know for sure with Master card and Visa there is no fee

It works for sure with Visa and master card. Of course your bank in Australia will take fee , but HSBC wont take fee if you use VIsa or master card
Yes, but your bank will hit you with a fee
Yes of course. Impossible to Avoid the fee in the bank in your home country but at least you avoid the fee at the bank in Vietnam

Yeah you pay a fee but the exchange rate is better - I like the video and thank you, liked and subscribed
You have to pay 100k for the fee and 5% tax. So it's useless
I have no Idea what kind of credit card you used but useally with most cards this is not true at all
