When me and my friends came to vietnam, what we did since in the ph there is grab and uber too, We just do grab, and uber. Its safe and convenient. And if uber, it goes directly to your card, so you wont need cash.
These are some really useful tips! Thanks guys. I took a public bus (Number 152) which was the cheapest way to get from the airport to HCMC. As I show in one of my videos, you leave the airport and go right towards the bus stand. Ignore anyone who approaches you of-course, unless it is the real bus driver. I was told 10,000 VND, but on the bus I paid 5,000 VND. Safe travels!!
This video was made before the new bus line (from Pham Ngu Lao to the Airport) was open, and we have to agree it's really one of the safest to get to the airport and back now!
I just got back from Vietnam, and am enjoying your videos after the fact. They are very good. One useful addition to this video would be showing how to read the meter. I didn't find that clear-cut, and likely got ripped off by a Mailin cab in Mue Ne.
I’ve been there 3 times and had great times, besides the hot humid climate there’s lots to do and see. Love the two water parks ‘Dam sen ‘ and ‘ suoi tien’ a must. Also south to Vung Tau beach. Have fun all😀
As a person who travels to Vietnam a lot this is perfect advice. DO NOT GET ANY OTHER. TAXI. ALSO the taxi driver will understandably only speak Vietnamese so have your hotel address handy . You can get money just before you exit the airport and unlike most airports in the world the exchange rate is very good. Last point, if the taxi fair is 160,000 vnd and they ask for 170,000 its not a scam , you'll notice the taxi driver has to pay 10,000 vnd to exit the airport with you in the taxi.
The Best, cheapest and safest way to take a taxi in Vietnam is to download Grab and get taxis using the App. Drivers are rated and you get the cost of the journey up front. Well worth it.
Grab is a great option for travellers coming to HCMC, the video needs to be updated to include this option as well. When we shot this video Grab and Uber weren't yet popular in Vietnam, they are huge here now though.
Oh yes this video is 3 years old now! What would also be nice is a video about ways to travel between major Cities , like HCMC , Danang , Hanoi, Hai Phong & Na Trang..
We will consider that for future videos and blogs, we do have a recent one on traveling to the mekong backofthebiketours.com/how-to-go-to-the-mekong-delta-from-ho-chi-minh-city/
So, it has been a bit over 2 years now. How was your trip to Vietnam? I like to know...I was in Hanoi 2 years 3 year ago and some lady street vendor was trying to short change me after I bought some breakfast but I realize it and gave her a piece of my mind in my native tongue....it may not be Vietnamese but she knew I was not please and end up being embarrass because few local next to us saw what she was doing. LOL
In January, 2017 we arrived in Ho Chi Minh city late at night from Hong Kong. We Definitely got ripped off by a fake taxi service. Wish we had seen your video earlier and the usual going rate for fare to our hotel. Definitely left a bad jimpression! Vietnam is a beautiful + friendly developing country. People overall work hard + hustle to survive...but I work hard to save up for a vacation. I do not mind paying on the higher side for a service or product because I'm a tourist but to wholesale being ripped off is bullshit!
Hi,I'm Indonesian, i have a plan to visit Vietnam one day, thanks for the tip...very helpfull, can you tell me abaut the local people in Vietnam...are they helpfull to the foreigner tourist ,'cause it is posible that I get lost in the Vietnam and need a local help....thanks
Once you're out of Tan Son Nhat Airport you should go on the left and you'll find a line of mailinh and Vinasun taxi :) Both these companies should have staffs there who can call taxis for you!
Hm...but what if I am in the front of the line and the taxi in front of me is NOT vinasun or mailinh? Can I just tell the taxi driver I am not getting on anything other than mailinh or vinasun? Will that offend people?
and remember to look at the taxi's number (usually at the side back of the taxi) painted and in circle. So remember that number and not the taxi licence plat number, just in case being scammed.
I just got scammed. 5600dong is the cost of taxi but he wanted 560000. Can u imagine the travel is just from ben than market to water puppet show. What a crappy experience in vietnam. Many scammers. Same goes to hotel. the price is 5200000 but she wanted 6700000. I only knew she tried to cheat when i look at the booking.com price. Be carefull guys. People have lack of modesty and honesty nowadays. They dont really care about others.
I’m planning to visit Vietnam alone for the first time but I’m worry I would get trick or rob (I’ve heard stories) so is there a specific location/district that’s the safe and the best place to book average price hotels?
District 2 is actually huge so it would be hard to say. You can try to download the Grab App to see if it will let you enter the address now to see what the fare wil be.
-----Highly Recommend ---- 1. no side purses ...... no backpacks (unless you carry nothing important)...small bodycross is good . No passports and documents inside of the bag if you are carrying one... ***2. Body wallets (soft wallets that you can wear underneath of your shirts "keep passports, cards and money....important documents) can find online or TJmax if u live in States. 3. No expensive jewelry.......keep eyes on your phones or cameras ....do not take pictures while without looking around you....
Although Vinasun and Mai Linh Taxi are good brands in Vietnam, you may get on a fake cab that resembled these brands. So, you should research and be alert! However, there is another way to help you avoid taxi scams is using mobile app to catch a cab such as: uber, grab and iMove... Especially, with Grabcar and iMove, you will be informed the exactly fee before getting on the cab. Try it and still love Vietnam. Muahaha
721,000 dong from district 1 to quan binh than... 😡😡😡😡😡😡 and it was a metered taxi... 😭😭😭😭😭😭 it was such a bad experience on our first day here in vietnam...it's better to use grab..
I'm really sorry to hear that. This happens all over the world and its a real shame when it does. When money is involved the worst comes out in certain individuals. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in vientam though!
+TARN NGUYEN True! Uber and Grab Taxi/ Grab Car offers very competitive pricing in Vietnam. However there are still many fake taxis around town and we believe people still need to be quite careful :-)
You two are so cute Guys, Thank you for this video, I shall use all the tips in december 2017.
This is absolutely helpful, as my journey in Vietnam will be on May 2017.
When me and my friends came to vietnam, what we did since in the ph there is grab and uber too, We just do grab, and uber. Its safe and convenient. And if uber, it goes directly to your card, so you wont need cash.

good advice, you provide good information for tourists, which is famous vietnam fraud against tourists
In Vietnam, two most trust Taxi companies are Hanoi ( Kindly gray and white blend) and Mai Linh, (All green). The rest do not even think about.
