Great review! When I show people Friday the 13th movies for the first time, it’s seems like Part II is always their favorite. When the answer is something else, it seems to be nostalgia based and what someone grew up with. Short shorts for the win!
Yeah same here - the simple and quiet, calming feeling watching Parts 1-4...I always liked the pace of the film and the campiness amongst the characters.
I agree.... They sure do "take ya back". Not may favorite F13 #1, but I still remember being that latchkey kid catching #1 on HBO before parents got home and mind blown. Instant horror and F13 fan.
2:35 - agree. They need to capture the same vibe if they do a remake. Not an expert on the lore, but I think if they can go back to 80’s feel somehow. Integrate the story of how he drowned etc.
Part II it's my favorite Friday the 13th movie too. Love Amy Steel. She was so cute and a good actress. Too bad she didn't acted in more movies and wasn't valued in the movie industry. And the part when she fooled Jason for a bit into thinking she was her mother was so cool! Glad to hear the 4K is a worthy upgrade over the Blu-ray.
It's a damn shame her agent talked her into turning down the sequel … I _adore_ Amy Steel and the character of Ginny! She might be my all-time favourite final girl! She's definitely up there.

I agree with your opinion on Friday the 13th Part 2. I feel that it is definitely one of the greatest horror films ever made. It’s definitely on a short list. I have always found this to be the most scary version of Jason.
Also my favorite. I love Sackhead Jason, too, but the thing I love most about this one and the original is how they handle suspense. They are a masterclass. The POV camera work is absolutely chilling in these movies.
@@midlevelmedia I just love being teased by horror directors. What you don't see, what you might see, what you think you're about to see is so much more horrifying and titillating than being shown. That's why they say, "Better the devil you know, than the devil you don't." Sean S. Cunningham and Steve Minor were so good at making us beg for the suspense to end and then making us beg more. This was always my fav of the series as well. The sack look was super creepy. The whole shack with the mother’s head, was cool too. But there’s just something about the aesthetics of late 70s, early 80s films, especially exploitation films like this, that I just really like. Let's not forget, John Furey's campfire monologue. He sells it Dr. Loomis level. Beautiful setup. If a character of authority is scared...you should be as well. Brilliant.
Good to hear that this 4K is really good, Ken. I have the 4 steelbook HD Blu-ray editions and the Deluxe Friday the 13th Scream Factory Box set with all of them, with the bonus features disc. This is definitely the best Friday the 13th out of the series for me! I love part two, part three and part four the best out of all of them. I bought the 4K of the original Friday the 13th a year or two ago whenever it came out and I still haven’t watched it yet so I’m not sure what people are talking about as far as it being too dark. I wish they released this as a standalone here in the United States. I guess I’m going to have to keep an eye out on eBay and buy this new from somebody that opened up the box that selling these separately. lol
I have to be honest. If I had to pick my absolute ‘favorite’ movie of the franchise it’s probably “A New Beginning” or this one. But if I had to pick the ‘greatest’ of them of all, I’m inclined to say this one, Part 2, all day. Part 2 is wonderful.
This film obviously had a different film source and therefore an improved 4K transfer. Watched the 4K version on Itunes and thought that this was a great transfer!
It's always been my favorite. For some reason, it gets overshadowed by parts 6 and 4 a lot, which i don't know why?! I mean, they weren't bad, and they were fun in their own way . Part 4 was really only memorable though because it was more brutal than the other movies, and there were more naked girls. Part 6 was memorable because there was more comedy involved. I felt like part 2 had more substance, style, and suspense to it, and it also proved that sometimes less is more. It proved that you don't need to go overboard on the gore (it's one of the least gory of the series actually compared to the other ones) to make a spooky horror movie.
I ordered Friday the 13th Part 2 on 4K from Amazon, but I ordered the UK import, so that I didn’t have to get that American box set full of other stuff that I don’t care about.
Re-watched this on bluray and still don't know why you and alot of others love this one. I hate Jason running & stumbling around like Ghostface and him tracking down Alice in the intro is ridiculous. Cool the 4k is good though
That's not the reason this looks better than the first, the first one's HDR grade was botched and the picture had a blown out look. Their was also changes like the fade to white being taken out or a fake shadow being put on Mrs. Voorhees face.
All i want from the ft13th series is directors cuts of all the movies restoring cut footage due to the mpaa. Even if dvd id be ecstatic. Id buy the series all over again for the fourth time lol.
I'd really like to see them somehow restore part 3 to SBS 3d. That version some years back with the red/blue was atrocious. I saw Jaws 3d in the theater when it came out and I have it in SBS on the Oculus. It's stellar! Hope they can figure something out like they did with treasure of the four crowns.
I'll stick with the blu-ray. Too be honest, after watching a well made fancut, which got the uncut footage spliced in, I just can't watch the R-rated cut anymore.
Have the Slashed Scenes been transferred from the shout factory Blu Ray to the 4K? You didn't mention the deleted scenes with the uncensored kills. It's not mentioned on the back of the shout case but it's on the disc. I'm glad there's no black crush on the transfer though.
I love the first 4 friday films and part two is great. My only issue with it is i wish steve miner would finally admit that he ripped. Off. Mario bavas. A bay of blood. With the a complete shot for shot copy of the. Bedroom scene with the man and woman getting pinned together via a spear like weapon that goes through them both. The only difference. Was the jason. Used a pitchfork if anyone hasnt seen. A bay of blood you should. It came out i think about 9 or 10 years before friday 2. And even years before halloween
This movie has everything its creepy the creepiest one,the final girl is an og final girl of jason, Terry, Bar/Dinner scenes with the music and joyful ppl, good ki@@s especially the barbed wire or the one where the guy gets his u know slit upside doen the tree brutal and scary💀,just wish their was fog and oh Ted especially when he movks the old man lol and i liked a person in the background a marine in his camo hat and american flag jacket, plus jason looks bald in the sack for some reason and very innocent also the music when jenny is about to hit jason shocks me and wheres paul!
Part 1 was bad on 4k. It had more problems than being dark. Honestly Scream Factory should have done the 4ks they could have released them like Halloween
I also mostly enjoyed the 4K of the first one. Not sure if the transfer is better or worse than the scream factory in terms of being faithful to the original print but I think both offer different things. The scream factory has more vibrant colors but the 4K is darker and feels nastier if that makes sense. It doesn’t seem fun, it feels more eerie to me. Not sure what’s more true to the original vision but I sorta preferred the 4K, I do see what people mean by the sky looking blown out as compared to how blue it is in the scream factory but the scream factory looks like it could be the one that’s more tampered with 🤷♂️
4k blu rays are more accurate theatrical prints can not be compared to the negative because prints have less accurate color grading then the negative but People noticed that the scream factory verisons are a bit overblown with the colors And the quailty of the print depended on the projecter
I believe there were several problems with the first UHD. There was extra darkening done for the night time scenes. I read that there is a digital shadow on half of Mrs. Voorhees' face. I read it had nothing to do with the budget during production because the scenes at night are clearly visible watching the Scream Factory Blu-ray. The HDR isn't actually HDR: it's the SDR forced into the HDR space, which apparently 'nukes' the brights during the day time scenes. I've heard it's eye meltingly bright and because of this the highlights are clipped. The final problem is that apparently the director switched the fade to white paused shots to a fade to black. So those iconic shots when the picture grows brighter and becomes completely white is now fading to black. The thoughts of why it was changed have been speculated that if the shots went the normal white fade it would be too bright due to the lack of actual HDR being applied. I guess it takes a lot of work to restore a movie and making sure it's done correctly is expensive, so they chose to go the cheap route. That's just what I have read.
Bro u can love a movie but also admit that its due to nostalgia. On no planet is this one of the best horror films ever made… “the exorcist, the shining, Halloween, the thing, TCM and uh friday the 13th part 2” lol NO
@@jeffcunningham0389 I consider it to be one of the best slashers, so yeah, one of the best horror movies. Not up there with Shining or Exorcist no, but great within its own sub-genre.

I feel like I do remember that episode. Been 25 years since I’ve seen Family Ties. Lol
Why the change from 2 to II between the two 4k releases?
I love the first 4 friday films and part two is great. My only issue with it is i wish steve miner would finally admit that he ripped. Off. Mario bavas. A bay of blood. With the a complete shot for shot copy of the. Bedroom scene with the man and woman getting pinned together via a spear like
weapon that goes through them both. The only difference. Was the jason. Used a pitchfork if anyone hasnt seen. A bay of blood you should. It came out i think about 9 or 10 years before friday 2. And even years before halloween
I have heard that and need to check out Bay Of Blood. But so many movies lift or borrow from each other.
Yes homaging and doing a nod to is one thing but to completely copy is another lol.
Teri's amazing ass in this remains one of the natural wonders of the world, for sure.
My GOD is that thing PERFECT in those daisy dukes....❤️❤️❤️❤️
$60 bucks for the Box Set...I get F13 Part 2 in 4K and then I can turn around and sell off all of the other films in the set
So part 1 has Jasons mother and part 2 has Jason? I watched these in the 90s so I was late to the party
Part 1 was bad on 4k. It had more problems than being dark. Honestly Scream Factory should have done the 4ks they could have released them like Halloween
100%
I had zero problems with it. One of my favorite 4Ks honestly and a perfectly authentic representation of that film.
I didn't like the grading on that Blu-ray of the first film, skin color and green seemed off to me but hey overall I prefer DVD anyway to 4K... 🤯
@@LarryFleetwood8675ew
@@midlevelmedia How exactly is changing the white fade outs an authentic representation of the film?
💪😎
The absolute worst Jason movie is Freddy vs Jason. F13 part 2 is definitely the best
So the UHD of Part 1 has blown out HDR and Part 2 is too dark? I just want to make sure... 😂
Part 2 is fine apparently first one is blown out and too dark. They borked the HDR.
Ummm. Don’t think that’s what I said? Lol
@@midlevelmedia
I didn't mean you, I mean "the internetz" 🤣
@@nicholastotoro7721 Ohhh ok. Gotcha bud!
Ken, Jason or Michael?
It’s close, but Michael.
Not sure what’s more true to the original vision but I sorta preferred the 4K, I do see what people mean by the sky looking blown out as compared to how blue it is in the scream factory but the scream factory looks like it could be the one that’s more tampered with 🤷♂️
@@dajmasta94 I feel the exact same way.
4k blu rays are more accurate theatrical prints can not be compared to the negative because prints have less accurate color grading then the negative but
People noticed that the scream factory verisons are a bit overblown with the colors
And the quailty of the print depended on the projecter
What a horrible slip cover with the paramount set. You can barely tell it’s from Friday the 13th
It's Friday the 13th, not Lawrence of Arabia. No big deal how it looks. 😂😂
No big deal how Lawrence Of Arabis looks either
To some people it does matter. If it don’t to you then don’t watch it
@@williamdriver1959 none of it matters not every damn film in existence needs to be done in 4K
@@markpugh6808 maybe not. But if it’s restored and people want it who are we to say they shouldn’t. Let people be happy for it instead of being negative. I want as Many 4ks as possible cause honestly 90 % of the time they look better
That’s a slippery slope when you decide what should and shouldn’t get a 4K based on “subjective” film quality.
Don’t know why but the footsteps coming across street in the beginning creeped me out for some reason as a kid in 80’s
Same here.
