Eight taught me to be a gentleman Ten taught me life is not always right or wrong and that we're not always perfect Twelve taught me how to be a good man Thirteen taught me to have hope even in the darkest times I owe the Doctor for being the man I am today Thank you Doctors 💙💙
As much flak as she got, I really liked 13. She felt like the perfect cap off to the development of the prior doctors as far as the guilt from the time war and their reaction to loss. Nine was angry and bathed in a degree of self loathing for what he had done in the Time War. Ten lost the anger but remained sad having grown close to others only to have them ripped away and feel thatloss again. Eleven ran from all the pain, refusing to say goodbye. Twelve turned and faced that pain and seemingly made some peace with it. And it feels like Thirteen is the result of that growth. She's hopeful, persistent, optimistic, the pain she's known has made her a stronger, kinder person who refuses to give up, no matter how tempted she was at the end of her 12th incarnation. I think the main flaw 13 struggled with, aside from the obvious identity crisis, was she still had the same tendency of the previous doctors with not getting close to others, and still has the tendency to try and face things alone. I think her final episode was supposed to be a lesson regarding that feeling of needing to do things alone. In her final moments she's surrounded by old friends whose travels with The Doctor have made them all into better people, people who see her as a friend and who insist on helping her, knowing full well the risks. Much contrasting to what Davros taunted the tenth doctor about; The Doctor doesn't turn people into weapons, rather The Doctor helps them become better people. By seeing that despite how small they are in contrast to the universe, they are still capable. They can stop Daleks, solve impossible problems, accomplish impossible tasks, and much like The Doctor, they can help people too. It reminds me of the sensation you hear astronauts talk about when they have seen the Earth from the Moon. I really liked Thirteen's solution to her identity crisis in Revolution of the Daleks. "No weapons. No time to think. All that time in a cell wondering who I am. I'm the Doctor. I'm the one who stops the Daleks."
I don't blame the actress, but the script writers. We were cheated out of what could have been a fantastic Doctor. But instead they played it safe and dipped their toes in the water when they should have just taken the plunge and had fun.
Jodie and her characterization (even as you well described) caught no flak afaict. Apparently it was her writers who gave her a less than reputable plot to work with.
And the 15th doctor really brought this up and this is why 10 came back. He’s a recollection of every doctor’s trauma into one regeneration. Like he said, they did rehab out of order, and now 10 gets a happy ending while 15 goes off galavanting across time and space.
I like her too. I don't know why the fans panned her. She isn't great but not as bad as the fans say either. She's kinda cute and adorable and likable too.
I’ve always found the 13th doctors theme to be one of the most beautiful pieces. Something about her theme just uplifts my spirits. I’m actually unsure if I like her theme more than the 11th doctors though. By the way, this cover is amazing.
@@fanoverdell From what I've heard, he has gotten better. Don't take it from me though, I stopped watching mid series 12. Still, nowhere near Murray Gold.
If you include the War Doctor, she's even the 6th Doctor in the lineup of NuWho. On a separate note, I met both of them at the same convention earlier this year, and Colin was consistently so supportive of Jodi.
I think that 12 is the 6 of Modern Who, both let down by really poor writing but amazing actors and choices for the Doctor. I just don’t feel that charisma with 13, and don’t get me wrong Jodie is an amazing actress but I keep seeing people say that it’s the writings fault but I also just think she’s kinda miscast as the Doctor. It’s not because she’s a woman, making the Doctor a woman is something that is so new and interesting and could add new life to Doctor Who, on this concept on its on was really let down by Chibnals horrendous writing. I actually really feel like the fugitive doctor should’ve been 13, but overall Jodie just doesn’t feel like the doctor.
o7 I think the Thirteenth Doctor drew even with the Eleventh as my favourite incarnation. I really want a version of her theme released based on the arrangement that played during her regeneration though, there was a particularly grand aspect to that one.
Chibnall's era had weaknesses, but I appreciate him trying some different things. I feel like him having a co-writer could've helped him iron out some of his concepts. Part of the problem was the budget too. I think Whittaker did work hard and she had onscreen chemistry with Gil. Feel like they never quite got Whittaker's costume right-it needed an extra element like maybe a tie or belt to coordinate with the coat.
@@LolsAtLance Then it kinda seems what you really liked was TWWFTE’s score, cause 13’s theme was whole hog nearly every episode it was just only vocal a few times and the riff from “Sonic Screwdriver” only appeared in that episode and “Activate Everything” in POTD. Various other aspects of the released track “Thirteen” were in many episodes
The old theme was alot softer, more cuddly (?). This is basically that but in my opinion an improvement because its so boomy in comparison! My music terms are brilliant I know. Great work :D
13th have such a lovely theme but i can count with my fingers how many times they played it in her series, i think it was 3 times, both in her first episode and one on her last
From what I can remember they played variations of her theme three times in the Woman Who Fell To Earth, at least once in Demons of the Punjab, at least once in Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos, at least twice in Resolution, at least twice in Spyfall pt. 2, at least twice in the Timeless Children, at least once in Revolution of the Daleks, at least once in the Halloween Apocalypse, Once Upon Time, Village of the Angels and in Power of the Doctor. And that's just what I can think of of the top of my head. The difference is that they don't just play her theme in full every time they want to use it, a lot of the times they're variations playing on different instruments and moods.
I actually really liked Akinola's music. It was subtle but quite pretty. The Power of the Doctor song was certainly one of his best as well as Thieteen's Theme.

She reminded me of Tom Baker's Doctor as well. Now: Tom Baker's was the Doctor I grew up with *and* was a dead ringer for my Dad at the time, so you have to get up pretty early to hit that comparison with me. Jodie Whittaker did.
Whilst I liked quite a lot of Segun's music in premise the execution I found irritating. He knew how to write evocative melodies but then arranged & mixed it in this atmospheric, atonal crap. I can't deny though that this is a great theme and your remix/cover corrects some of his mistakes imo
SHE didn't ruin shit. Jodie was a fine Doctor which showed through in the best episodes of her run. It makes me laugh because Colin only had ten stories like Chris, and five of those stories are subjectively good.
I love Segun Akinola’s approach to thirteen. She taught me that there is always hope in the darkest moments💙
I consider her one of the most optimistic Doctors. I always thought the rainbow and yellow symbolizing her as a ray of sunshine.

While not the best incarnation of our beloved time traveller, she sure as heck has an incredible theme.
