To come around the group in the last corner is a crazy strong performance! Well deserved win for Kopecky! Huge from Georgi too coming back after that tangle with her team mate very happy for her!
Kopecky's track background was huge in her taking this victory. As soon as I saw her leave a gap on that final lap, I knew she was about to sprint into the slipstream and win.
Kopecky actually somewhat did everything 'wrong' on the track. She was enclosed on the inside. It's only because she did an extremely strong final sprint (while making extra distance by overtaking the others on the outside of the corner) that she won. So her track background certainly wasn't that huge in her taking the win. He strength that day however was.
Don't forget that track is 500m long. That's double the usual Olympic 250m track. So that's why they are all sprinting from halfway in the last curve, which is 150m to go.
Yeah, and it's 100m longer than an athletics track yet it doesn't look that way on TV. I think Kopecky won this time because it's such a hard race and she was the one who had the most 'left in the tank'.
the tactics of cycling are second to none in professional sports. Its why I think woman's cycling is just as much fun to watch. Where its hard is we just don't know the riders - or the teams. Hopefully the promotion and story lines keep coming, and huge thanks for showcasing this. Paris Roubaix is (my view) the best bike race in the world
Yes I agree. I've watched cycling for years but I have to admit I didn't like watching the women's races much to start with. But the last 3-4 yrs has changed that. It's been interesting getting to know who's who in what team etc. Some great riders and racing. 🙂
I've watched a lot of women's cycling and even then there's usually a lot more unknowns than in men's cycling. The sport has changed immensely in the past 3 years or so. There's always new kids ready to become the next big thing. On top of that, there's less races and the middle of the pack riders don't get a lot of action, so when they finally get their moment it can be really exciting.
Italian Eurosport commentator thought Balsamo had had a puncture when she was dropped by Vos & C. , but it was soon clear that the puncture was in her legs...
Thrilling race… I don’t think the men’s will be this tight. It seems like the same phenomenon as in XCO, where the women’s races tend to be open and the men’s are always for 2nd place after Nino.
6:15 - Balsamo stayed in the saddle during the final sprint. Kopecky trusted her own ability and track experience to beat the group in a sprint. Chilling out at the back like the best track sprinters do and leaving it until the last moment to explode.
Ellen van Dijk riding hard enough to drop Balsamo was a huge tactical error. Who knows how much better Balsamo's sprint could have been if she didn't have to chase back to that lead group with Pfeiffer Georgi. That may have also taken Pfeiffer Georgi out of the final sprint if Balsamo hadn't been dropped to work with her.
i think you made a little overfocus on kopecky in this video. I believe vos in everyone's head was the main favorite, and even during the race, she was looking flying while kopecky was really nervous . that's why the other riders didn't attacked kopecky enough as they should have done
Interesting. I did not manage to watch the race and so just saw the highlights but thought Vos looked incredibly strong and focused. Bummed for her as she is my favourite rider. But well done Lotte Kopecky!
The focus is on the winner. In the race, Vos seemed to be controlling while Kopecky seemed to be the one frantically attacking, hoping to get rid of Vos so she wouldn't have to sprint as Vos seemed to be the most explosive. But in the end, Kopecky's attacks seems to have softened Vos a bit. And other riders didn't attack Kopecky simply because Kopecky was the one attacking and putting pressure on everyone. Only Vos seemed to be able to respond well to Kopecky's attacks.
If Balsamo hadn't sucked too much out of Georgi and did a few more turns to get back on, both her and Georgi may have had that extra in the tank to give Kopecky a harder task. Although Ice cold Kopecky played them all in the last 10k, saving herself to allow her the power to extricate herself from that awful position she put herself in entering the velodrome and time the sprint to perfection..
There will be crashes in the men. The pace in men's races has become hectic and also there are so many more men at a great level to compete these days. The used to be patrones who stopped the young guys pushing in--no longer the case every rider just goes for it. Its great to watch but it is a huge ongoing safety problem in men's cycling!
Kopecky rode without class for the last 10km. No help, sucked wheels the whole way, picked their plates clean. I was sad to see when she came over the top. But perfect tactics. No idea why vos and lidl didn't make her do her turns.
Let’s face it, every cyclist - man or woman - that dominates will be called a juicer. Yet every sport has its dominant athlete. Someone has to be the best.
the full white kit and the gold shades. aura was off the charts
She looks like a super hero.
And no gloves💪🏼
Kopecky was going too quickly for the dirt to stick! Freshest a kit has ever looked after Roubaix!

Balsamo was world champion on track a couple of years ago, and Vos was world and Olympic champion on track some years ago.

Very fun race. Kopecky kept it so cool, but holy crap that acceleration into the finish straight...

I don't really agree. I think tactics are a huuuuge part of cycling. Maybe less in one-day races but defo in stage races.

Kopecky going full Sagan mode.

Kopecky is just wildly impressive when she is on.
Lanterne Rouge watch a long would be so fun for these races!
damn - Lotte looks like a F*ing BOSS in that skinsuit @0:27
I've never seen a white speedsuit so clean after Paris-Roubaix... I had to check the finish results from a few places to see if it was legit.
Nice race. Thanks for sharing.
great summary- thanks!!
Kopecky looking like Remco with the all white
Excellent analysis as ever. Thanks.
Thanks for the content, excellent
Nothing was going to stop Lotte Kopecky today. She was on a mission, and determined to make amends for Flanders.
I'm going to have to be the nerd who watches the rerun of this when it gets on the TV. That seems like an incredible race.
@lanterne Rouge, the sprint looks like 1997 Frederic Guesdon all over again :)
world champ!
Well done, Kopecky!
Powerhouse Lotte, kapow!
Good that both Flanders and Roubaix womens races down to the wire this year.

Kopecky is different from the rest. So much bulkier and stronger! No chance they were beating her in a sprint

Mister Kopecki ....👍
That's the women's peloton minus Puck and her aggressive racing style....
Damn, the two world champions winning in the same race this year!
2024 racing on both mens and womens is so strange. Seems like most teams are there to do a workout, the tactics are super suspect.
What does "holds up crash" mean? It's not English.
This was horrible racing from the other teams: they handed it to Kopecky on a silver platter. Let's hope the men's race will be more exciting.
Every race they make it so easy for SD Worx.
