Pedersen has been in really good form lately. Only his tactical calls seem way off recently. His attack in Flanders, for example, was such a waste of energy, but somehow he still was amongst the best after he got caught (only at the very end he broke). He seems to have an incredible amount of stamina
Pogi and MVDP may be in a league of their own in classics and monuments lately, but Pedersen seems to be the best of the rest. Which is still a very impressive achievement

MVDP is way too strong man vs man in these races, so you need more numbers than them and the only way to do that is to thin them out early. Ehh, he was almost certainly doping. (Ik, ik, it's heresy to question "the greats.") What's truly impressive to me is that we're still seeing insane performances out of the modern day peloton (similar to the doping peloton days), but accounting for gear improvements, nutrition and training improvements, etc the likelihood that they're still cheating is very small.
If they kept doping + had the modern improvements, we'd be seeing some truly unbelievable performances in terms of times/records, etc.

The lack of organization in the chase after MvdP went, was probably the most disappointing thing of the race. In hindsight he probably would have stayed away with no mechanicals, but them immediately giving up - allowing the gap to over one minute and consequently letting the team car in - ruined the race. So much could have happened in the sectors, but they were immediately like "let's race for second".

I'm new to the cycling sport. Maybe someone can explain this to me. The commentator says that the MVDP is protected by having his team member follow other people's attacks. If 3 others attack and one team member hangs on to them, why should that help MVDP? If these 3 rotate , does MVDP's helper have no effect or am I misunderstanding something?

No amount of team tactics in this race would have changed the outcome with so many riders having missed the race for Visma and Trek.
