This has got to be one of the best explanation videos I’ve ever seen. It teaches so much. I’ve not had such clear deep detail. Pedal boards are NOT intuitive to me. I find them difficult to learn and use at a level that satisfies me. This has helped me a ton! Thanks so much.
Thanks for the comment! What you are hearing is my guitar plugged into the RP1000, then going directly into the computer. I used a separate mic for the voice work. In other words, what you are hearing through your speakers while watching this video is essentially the same thing you would hear if you had the unit in front of you and you were playing through your computer speakers. Every video I've done has only used a direct signal in this manner.
i previously had this unit and i loved it. i did sell mine in order to buy the nicer digitech ipb-10 that uses an ipad...and i still own and use that one ocassionally. i am a digitech collector of all the older floor units like these. i own them all. love digitech.
Tough question. For sound alone, I would go with the HD300. The amp/cab models are much better for playing direct to your soundcard/FOH. For more functionality, I would choose the RP1000. It integrates better with your amp (if you use an amp), and has more footswitches for presets/stomps.
One more thing is your compression settings. It can add a lot of volume if it isn't set right. 8:34 is a good example of that. Huge volume boost when I turn on the compressor, then it drops again when I turn on the distortion because the Distortion Level is so low that it causes a drop in overall volume. The Reverb and Delay Levels were both set very high in that example just to demo the effect tails. You wouldn't likely have them high enough to cause big volume changes. Good luck!
Built like a tank! I really love it, because you have the choice of 10 sounds right with one switch. I actually programed the volume pedal in most cases as an additional effect option as a light OD, as delay or flanger or autowah. So I got around 16 sounds per bank. I made myself one bank, which copied and modified acustomizing to different guitars, like HH or SSS guitars. The reverb is a jewel!

Thanks man, glad you liked it! Digitech doesn't really support their units through firmware updates unless there is a major bug/glitch in the programming, so I wouldn't expect a fix for any of the stuff I mentioned.
Yes. When you save a preset, it saves the current on/off state of the stomp loop. Also, there is a stomp loop footswitch (top left of the unit) that you can use to turn it on/off within any preset. You can also program whether the stomp loop comes before or after the "amp" in the signal chain on a preset by preset basis.
Sure, but two things to consider... 1) No footswitch for the amp loop, so no option of turning it on/off within a preset. 2) You wouldn't be able to use the 4CM or any amp models in the RP because with the amp loop engaged, it bypasses the modeling. The RP would have to be run into the front of the amp.

@@wesleyteo No, but RP 1000 is also quite good when you compare the age and price, it can keep up if you know how to use it well. RP 1000 should be available now pretty cheap, making it really worth it.
Depending on the modeler, there are usually 4 ways to use it... 1) Plugged into the front of an amp: Generally sounds terrible, but some have made it work. With the amp/cab sims off, it can work as a general multi-effects box. 2) Plugged into the fx-return of an amp or going into a clean power amp and guitar cab: This uses the preamps and effects on the modeler, but it is usually ideal to disable the cab sims because it is already going through a real guitar cab.
Thanks man! Can't really help you on your questions though... 1 - It depends entirely on your needs. I recommend trying a number of them and picking which one you like best for what you want to do. That's the only honest way to decide. 2 - I switched to a 100% digital/direct rig some years ago, so I don't know. If you're into analog/tube gear, it looks pretty cool.

Thanks! Sorry, my wording might have been misleading in that section. By default, the expression pedal is linked to volume with the switch activating a "Cry Wah". The switch on the expression pedal can only be used to engage/disengage a Wah effect. However, the expression pedal itself (with the switch off) can be linked to nearly any other parameter change (including Whammy, which is under the Chorus/FX category).
Thanks man! That's exactly what I was hoping to accomplish so it means a lot to hear that. The negatives don't affect me much either, which is why I'm actually quite happy with the RP1000. It is capable of some pretty decent tones! Hopefully you'll find the same with RP500. Peace!
...cont'd... 4) Direct: Plug your guitar into the unit and plug the unit into a full-range speaker system (PA, studio monitors, etc.) Amp/cab modeling is getting better all the time and these days even the most critical ears can't tell the difference between a mic'd amp and a modeler. I feel that while it is the simplest setup, it is also the most versatile. It also requires me to carry much less equipment (and far lighter than traditional amps) to and from gigs.
Most would say the 4 cable method is best... 1) Plug your guitar into the RP1000 2) Connect the RP1000's Amp Loop SEND to INPUT on the Crate 3) Connect the Crate's INSERT(send) to the Amp Loop RETURN on the RP1000 (you'll need a stereo Y cable, the ring portion is the send) 4) Connect the RP1000's Left Output to the Crate's INSERT(return - the tip portion of the Y cable is the return)
i just got my Digitech iPB10 yesterday and I am blown away. I have been wanting to try something else other than Boss GT series, here in Jamaica that's whats most popular. I was watching your video and got inspired by the sounds and connectivity of the Digitech RP1000 and iPB10. I decided on the iPB10 because I already had an iPad that wasn't being used for anything important so it was a no brainer. Thanks for the inspiration I appreciated it.
Yeah, I saw those on the forum. Great job on the mods! It's got me considering changing the Stomp Loop switch (which I don't use) to be the Pedalboard toggle.
The reason people prefer the 4 cable method is that it is the ideal way to integrate it with their current amp/cab setup. Thus, they are using a real power amp and cab as opposed to a simulation. As far as the quality of the preamp models goes (4CM or direct); they were top notch for their time (4-6 years ago). However, they do not quite hold up against the newer stuff released in the past couple of years (PodHD, Mustang, etc).

I am in a similar cover band and was using a Mustang Floor and I do love it but I saw a band recently with one guitarist and he was using a RP1000 in 4cm and his tone was monstrous so I had to have one. Thanks to your vids my learning curve was very short. I will be using it mostly with a tube head and either a 2x12 or 4x12 but I cant wait to try and dial it in direct and see where that takes me. I almost cant believe this old pedal is still so relevant. No wonder they still sell it. I think it's an awesome tool for cover bands that need multiple sounds during the course of a gig. Subscribed!
Yes. When active, the amp/cabinet bypass switch globally disables the amp and cabinet modeling on all presets. Ideally, you'd create your own presets with no amp/cab modeling and hook it up to your amp using the "4 Cable Method" (google that if you don't know what it is). PS - If you're planning on using effects only, look into the BOSS units too. Excellent effects! Some of the stomps and modulations are a big step up from the RP units. Good luck!
You're right. You could use the exp.pedal to adjust delay/reverb level. It would give the impression of fx-bleed. However, you'd still be limited to only one effect (delay or reverb) and you could no longer use the pedal for volume or other controls.

I upgraded from a GNX4 to the RP1000. I do miss the warp feature, the ability to link multiple parameter changes to a single stomp switch, and having dual amps in each preset. That said, I find myself quite happy with the RP. Can't wait for Digitech's next gen modeler in a year or two!
When I play live, I plug the RP1000 directly to FOH (Front Of House, main mixer/PA). If it is a small place or if they don't want me to plug into their PA, I use an ELX112p (powered PA speaker) as my "amp". It is all basically the same plugging straight into my computer. That way, I can build presets at home on my PC (with studio monitors) and they sound basically the same when I play live (minor tweaking required). Most people really can't tell the difference anyways.
Yes. You can plug the modeler directly into the computer speakers. Or, you could plug the modeler into your computer and the sound will come out the speakers that your computer uses. That way you can play along with music on your computer and it all comes from one source.
Yes, I still use the RP1000 direct as my main rig. I chose it because of certain functions that other units either don't have or don't do well. Given the options out there today, I would still choose it for those reasons but it all depends on what you need a multi-effects unit for... Most of the options out there sound good so it is more a question of what features, interface, and connectivity you prefer.
Depends on your ears. Using an 'acoustic' model and a little reverb it can sound marginally like a mic'd acoustic. Check out the "Looper" section of the video to hear what it sounds like with an acoustic pickup on my electric guitar. It would sound similar to that, only slightly better.
I tend to fix all digital units with the same process: 1) Check all analog connections 2) Check all power supplies and other parts of my signal chain (guitar, cables, pedals, amp, etc) 3) If those check out, I can confirm there is an issue with the unit itself so I re-install the firmware 4) If the problem is still there, I know it is something I can't fix, so I e-mail the company directly with details about the problem and hope I won't need to replace it if is no longer under warranty.
All looper functions can be accessed in real time with the optional Digitech FS3X three button footswitch. It is normally $34.95 but is currently (October 2016) being offered free by American Musical Supply along with a set of headphones when purchasing the RP1000 for $299.95.
It has pitch shifting effects, but they are monophonic (one note at a time, melody/solo) as opposed to polyphonic (many notes at a time, chords). If you're looking to shift your whole guitar up/down as if you were re-tuning, try Morpheus Droptune, Digitech Whammy DT, Behringer US600, or a modeling guitar like Variax, Roland G5, or Peavey AT200. There may be other stuff, but I don't know off hand. Look for "polyphonic" pitch shifting.
...cont'd... 3) 4 cable method: Probably the most tedious to set up, but well worth it if you have a good amp. Long story short, it allows you to go between your preamp and the amp models in the unit. It also puts the comps/stomps before your preamp and the delays and modulations after your preamp in the fx-loop. Heavily preferred by those who love versatility as well as the real "amp in the room" sound.

Your actual demos showed the interesting variations is sound with volume/ pickup changes and the acoustic stuff near the end - I'm not terribly interested in acoustic stuff, made me say WOW! Good Vid Jon. I appreciate seeing the dirty details as much or more than the accolades. I've been using the Rp1000 for about a year now, and think all your findings are legit. As you said, there's still a lot of good things about it. IMO, it offers the simplest operation of all the big floor modellers, and those looking for stomp-box style feel and sound may find this the best choice.
When I bought mine, I immediately modified it. I swapped out all of the factory push switches for higher quality quieter switches that make virtually no "switch noise" at all, then I took off all of the "matrix" knobs, cut the plastic shafts in half, cut the knobs themselves in half and put them back on. So now, the foot switches are silent and the matrix turn knobs are more recessed and lower down to the unit. It was a lot of work, but it was well worth it. Just thought I'd mention it to you, the problems can be fixed with a little effort, and it works out great in the end.
+Gunslinger Survival Cool ideas, although most users wouldn't be comfortable making those changes themselves. I wouldn't consider either one to be a problem really. The factory switches are quite good and I actually prefer hard/loud switches over silent switches. I like to clearly feel when the button clicks under my foot/shoe, which I can't with silent switches. Chances are if you're playing live, you're in an environment loud enough to drown out the click anyways. I also wouldn't bother shortening the "matrix" shafts/knobs. Because they are recessed, they aren't really a problem. That is, unless you or another band member are a stumbler on stage and might step right on the unit.
+Gunslinger Survival The only real complaint I have with the unit is the wah switch being a pressure switch vs a hard physical switch. Other than that, I can live with everything else quite comfortably.
Jonathan Beals -- Well, where I live...I am the guy in town that everyone goes to to fix things...lol. I work on, fix and tune up CB radios, computers, etc. Also being a home recording musician that plays many instruments and works on a lot of electronics...I've built speaker cabinets for amps, fixed amps, effects processors...pretty much everything...it's no problem and I enjoy the hell out of tinkering, modifying, fixing and building things...lol.
Jonathan Beals -- OMG...YES, I know EXACTLY what you mean. I hate that as well. It is only really technical design flaw that they continue to use. It needs to be on a separate switch...I may look into that, I bet I can bypass that and do just that...put it on a push button on/off switch located at the side of the expression pedal...thanks for that mention and idea!!!
I have discovered an apparent glitch when editing presets using X-Edit. If you drag and drop presets to different locations or if you copy/paste presets, the new presets become corrupted and respond very strangely. That might be what you're experiencing. Try re-loading the firmware. Official firmware can be found on the Digitech website. Beta firmware link is in the video description... Hope you get it sorted out!

None of the presets in this video came with the unit. I made custom presets specifically for each of the demos I showed. Hope that answered your question!
If you build all your presets to sound good direct, then you should consider a FRFR system (Full Range Flat Response, think powered PA speakers and/or studio monitors as opposed to guitar amps) for live use. The benefit here is that the tone you make for your recordings will sound basically the same when you play live. You'd have to make all new presets if you bought a guitar amp because presets built direct won't sound good through a traditional guitar amp.
You can link the expression pedal to the Whammy effect, which you can program for 1 or 2 octaves up or down. It does not come with a battery and I don't know of any units like this that do, so you might be out of luck with that one. Happy gear hunting!
I didn't know that. I used a Rocktron Prophesy live and in the Studio and had no (audible) delays with that unit. I will carefully check which ever unit I buy to make sure I can live with its delay. This unit has a lot going on, especially like the 4CM. I wouldn't buy a unit without it. Thank you again for all the info. Your review was great, you should review all equipment you can.
Just an update for you...all of the matrix adjustment knobs with the plastic shafts, I took them all out and replaced them all with metal shafts and metal knobs that are recessed down inside further so that they don't stick up. Best investment I made to it, it was a pain in the ass to replace all those knobs...but it was damn worth it in the end. I've modded the unit to the max...and it is most definitely stageworthy at this point. Something you might try.

Yep me too. I was really excited about their release after the 1000 until I discovered I needed an iPad in order to use it! Definitely looking forward to the next, all in one, release.
Good on you for that final bit of advice...I do reviews, too...but I never answer questions like "What should I get?" or "Should I get XYZ??" Because everyone has different tastes. styles, needs...etc. So...yeah... Great review... I think the sounds on this were pretty bad ass...especially the acoustic emulator. I really only came here because I just bought a Genesis 3?? Old, I know, but it was $59?? and has all the features I want/need...I just wanted to see how much Digitech has evolved since 2001. I used to have a GNX 1 which is basically the Genesis, just in pedal form...and it was built like a tank, too!! Loved that thing...great sound...great features...the amp warp was INCREDIBLE. I don't think it went over well because a lot of people don't like to tinker, they like to "plug and play"...and they want their amp sims to sound "just like the real thing". I want my amps to sound like NO ONE ELSE ON THE PLANET...but I want them to sound REAL...like BELIEVABLE. Digitech seems to do that...so do a lot of these amp modeling plugins like POD Farm, Amplitube, and others... Very picky people disagree?? but I use a tube preamp on the front side...a Behringer Tube Mic 100...fattens things up nicely and gives it that true tube break up....because it has a tube!! :) Anyways..great review!! Sorry about the rambling...I LOVE talking about music.
i bought this in 2012 when i just jammin in my room in middle school. i’m out of highschool now and i still use it today playing shows with my band. it’s a great pedal in my opinion but of course it has great wear and tear from beating it around and such. i’ve had to replace the power supply and am missing one of the plastic knobs but i just stick a pencil in it and it works. honestly a great pedal but i see myself upgrading within 5 years

Just so you know, virtually every multi-effects device has a short signal drop between presets. There is no drop if you are simply turning on/off an effect within a preset but there is always a drop when switching between full presets. Even the $2000+ modelers have that problem.
I too suffer from GAS, and just got this 2 days ago, and still explaining to wife what it is capable of! I had to pay $400, but it came w/ the cords, and Sennheiser HPs, and the Loop Pedal, w/ 4-payment plan, zzzSounds has it going on! Highly recommend!

The whah pedal pressure switch can be adjusted through the settings sensitivity for whah pedal. I have mime set perfectly. Just Google how to adjust whah pedal sensitivity for rp1000 or look for it in your manual
Adjusting that didn't help my issue at the time. As mentioned in the video, the problem was the lack of physical feedback when the wah turns on/off. It "feels finicky" because of that lack of feedback, regardless of the sensitivity. Sensitivity wasn't the issue. Foot feel/feedback was.
I've never heard of anyone having that problem. Do you play at the same volume when you practice at home? Depending on your amp, it could be that the output on the RP1000 is too hot for your amp so it's kicking in the protection circuit (which would cut out your sound). Are you connecting it to the front of the amp or into the FX-loop return?

i just bought mine used cheap consider was used still in a very good shape like brand new for half of the price of a new one second day whit it and i very happy i bought it nice review and i check it out the patches you have are awesome looking forward to download them
My kid broke the hell out of one of those plastic knobs, but I can still use my laptop with the x-edit program to adjust things. Overall I don't like the amp and cab effects from this and use it strictly with the 4 cable method into my amp for fx.

There are multiple places where volume changes can take place. The first is Preset Level. It's a good idea to set the Preset Level the same for all your presets (I keep mine at 70). Second is Amp Level. That will vary depending on the amount of Amp Gain you have in your preset. If you set both of them at 50 and try to keep the volume the same as you play with each level, it should be ok. Lastly is Distortion Level. Set too low and it kills your volume. Too high and it kills your tone.
I'm pretty sure the early units were all made in the USA, but anything made after 2009 was made in China. Regardless, believe me when I say the solder joints are all solid as a rock and in general, it is reliable even after taking a beating.
I do understand that you can control any of the effects parameters using the expression pedal right? An example would be, to avoid the "bleeding" problem you could mix de delay with the expression pedal instead of changing in to a patch, the vocal 300 from digitech can do that. Sorry if my english sucks :)
Good review, although my biggest gripe is you can only run one time-based effect at a time. So if you want to combine Detune and Flange, no can do. And I wish the EQ were a 12 band, not Low/Mid/High. That said, its still the best floor FX today, IMO at this price point. I've had RPs for 20 years, and been using the RP500 since it came out. It runs into a custom combo containing a 1U Rocktron power amp and 2 x 10" neo Jensons. The RP50O's display is readable in the dark and having 5 presets (10 with the RP1000) instantly available is sweet, as is the ability to switch to Pedalboard mode. I have patches 1-5 set as Direct w/TS9, Direct w/Chorus and delay, Marshall JCM2000, Mesa IV w/detune and Mesa w/detune, boost and delay. 90% of what I play uses this setup. Patches 6 and 7 are the Mesa patches, but dropped down a half step which is so much easier than re-tuning my guitar for all those EVH, AIC, Smithereens, Social Distortion tunes. I wish others would pick up where DigiTech left off and do a similar 5 button unit with a stage freindly display.
For me, being the second guitar in my band, I think this will fit my needs best... It's really helpful to know your opinion, cause i also play in very quiet places... that foot switch click kills me.
That was a great review! i love these big clunker of guitar multi effects pedals. This really reminds me of my L6 Floor pod Plus. i wouldn't mind owning this one. ive always been a Digitech fan.
Also if im not wrong i read somewhere, that you can fix that about delay cutting right after you turn it off. Because the Factory set has some glitchs and bugs, that are fixed in later versions
I have a question. How meny parameters you can assign under expression pedal at that same time?? I bought this unit and I love sounds but I can not find how to assign more then one parameter under expression pedal. Looks like that can be assign everything but just one will be controlled. Yes. When you save a preset, it saves the current on/off state of the stomp loop. Also, there is a stomp loop footswitch (top left of the unit) that you can use to turn it on/off within any preset. You can also program whether the stomp loop comes before or after the "amp" in the signal chain on a preset by preset basis.
Sure, but two things to consider... 1) No footswitch for the amp loop, so no option of turning it on/off within a preset. 2) You wouldn't be able to use the 4CM or any amp models in the RP because with the amp loop engaged, it bypasses the modeling. The RP would have to be run into the front of the amp.

Depending on the modeler, there are usually 4 ways to use it...
1) Plugged into the front of an amp: Generally sounds terrible, but some have made it work. With the amp/cab sims off, it can work as a general multi-effects box.
2) Plugged into the fx-return of an amp or going into a clean power amp and guitar cab: This uses the preamps and effects on the modeler, but it is usually ideal to disable the cab sims because it is already going through a real guitar cab.

1 - It depends entirely on your needs. I recommend trying a number of them and picking which one you like best for what you want to do. That's the only honest way to decide.
2 - I switched to a 100% digital/direct rig some years ago, so I don't know. If you're into analog/tube gear, it looks pretty cool.

Thanks! Sorry, my wording might have been misleading in that section. By default, the expression pedal is linked to volume with the switch activating a "Cry Wah". The switch on the expression pedal can only be used to engage/disengage a Wah effect. However, the expression pedal itself (with the switch off) can be linked to nearly any other parameter change (including Whammy, which is under the Chorus/FX category).
Thanks man! That's exactly what I was hoping to accomplish so it means a lot to hear that. The negatives don't affect me much either, which is why I'm actually quite happy with the RP1000. It is capable of some pretty decent tones! Hopefully you'll find the same with RP500. Peace!

4) Direct: Plug your guitar into the unit and plug the unit into a full-range speaker system (PA, studio monitors, etc.) Amp/cab modeling is getting better all the time and these days even the most critical ears can't tell the difference between a mic'd amp and a modeler. I feel that while it is the simplest setup, it is also the most versatile. It also requires me to carry much less equipment (and far lighter than traditional amps) to and from gigs.
Most would say the 4 cable method is best...
1) Plug your guitar into the RP1000
2) Connect the RP1000's Amp Loop SEND to INPUT on the Crate
3) Connect the Crate's INSERT(send) to the Amp Loop RETURN on the RP1000 (you'll need a stereo Y cable, the ring portion is the send)
4) Connect the RP1000's Left Output to the Crate's INSERT(return - the tip portion of the Y cable is the return)
i just got my Digitech iPB10 yesterday and I am blown away. I have been wanting to try something else other than Boss GT series, here in Jamaica that's whats most popular. I was watching your video and got inspired by the sounds and connectivity of the Digitech RP1000 and iPB10. Yeah, I saw those on the forum. Great job on the mods! It's got me considering changing the Stomp Loop switch (which I don't use) to be the Pedalboard toggle.

The reason people prefer the 4 cable method is that it is the ideal way to integrate it with their current amp/cab setup. Thus, they are using a real power amp and cab as opposed to a simulation. As far as the quality of the preamp models goes (4CM or direct); they were top notch for their time (4-6 years ago). However, they do not quite hold up against the newer stuff released in the past couple of years (PodHD, Mustang, etc).

I am in a similar cover band and was using a Mustang Floor and I do love it but I saw a band recently with one guitarist and he was using a RP1000 in 4cm and his tone was monstrous so I had to have one. I will be using it mostly with a tube head and either a 2x12 or 4x12 but I cant wait to try and dial it in direct and see where that takes me. I almost cant believe this old pedal is still so relevant. No wonder they still sell it. I think it's an awesome tool for cover bands that need multiple sounds during the course of a gig. Subscribed!
Yes. When active, the amp/cabinet bypass switch globally disables the amp and cabinet modeling on all presets. Ideally, you'd create your own presets with no amp/cab modeling and hook it up to your amp using the "4 Cable Method" (google that if you don't know what it is). PS - If you're planning on using effects only, look into the BOSS units too. Excellent effects! Some of the stomps and modulations are a big step up from the RP units. Good luck!
You're right. You could use the exp.pedal to adjust delay/reverb level. It would give the impression of fx-bleed. However, you'd still be limited to only one effect (delay or reverb) and you could no longer use the pedal for volume or other controls.

I upgraded from a GNX4 to the RP1000. I do miss the warp feature, the ability to link multiple parameter changes to a single stomp switch, and having dual amps in each preset. That said, I find myself quite happy with the RP. Can't wait for Digitech's next gen modeler in a year or two!
There is a built-in chromatic tuner. It is accessed by pressing down and holding any one of the preset buttons for 2 seconds.
When I play live, I plug the RP1000 directly to FOH (Front Of House, main mixer/PA). If it is a small place or if they don't want me to plug into their PA, I use an ELX112p (powered PA speaker) as my "amp". It is all basically the same plugging straight into my computer. That way, I can build presets at home on my PC (with studio monitors) and they sound basically the same when I play live (minor tweaking required). Most people really can't tell the difference anyways.
Yes. You can plug the modeler directly into the computer speakers. Or, you could plug the modeler into your computer and the sound will come out the speakers that your computer uses. That way you can play along with music on your computer and it all comes from one source.
Yes, I still use the RP1000 direct as my main rig. I chose it because of certain functions that other units either don't have or don't do well. Given the options out there today, I would still choose it for those reasons but it all depends on what you need a multi-effects unit for... Most of the options out there sound good so it is more a question of what features, interface, and connectivity you prefer.
Depends on your ears. Using an 'acoustic' model and a little reverb it can sound marginally like a mic'd acoustic. Check out the "Looper" section of the video to hear what it sounds like with an acoustic pickup on my electric guitar. It would sound similar to that, only slightly better.
I tend to fix all digital units with the same process:
1) Check all analog connections
2) Check all power supplies and other parts of my signal chain (guitar, cables, pedals, amp, etc)
3) If those check out, I can confirm there is an issue with the unit itself so I re-install the firmware
4) If the problem is still there, I know it is something I can't fix, so I e-mail the company directly with details about the problem and hope I won't need to replace it if is no longer under warranty.
All looper functions can be accessed in real time with the optional Digitech FS3X three button footswitch. It is normally $34.95 but is currently (October 2016) being offered free by American Musical Supply along with a set of headphones when purchasing the RP1000 for $299.95.
It has pitch shifting effects, but they are monophonic (one note at a time, melody/solo) as opposed to polyphonic (many notes at a time, chords). If you're looking to shift your whole guitar up/down as if you were re-tuning, try Morpheus Droptune, Digitech Whammy DT, Behringer US600, or a modeling guitar like Variax, Roland G5, or Peavey AT200. There may be other stuff, but I don't know off hand. Look for "polyphonic" pitch shifting.

3) 4 cable method: Probably the most tedious to set up, but well worth it if you have a good amp. Long story short, it allows you to go between your preamp and the amp models in the unit. It also puts the comps/stomps before your preamp and the delays and modulations after your preamp in the fx-loop. Heavily preferred by those who love versatility as well as the real "amp in the room" sound.

Good Vid Jon. I appreciate seeing the dirty details as much or more than the accolades. I've been using the Rp1000 for about a year now, and think all your findings are legit. As you said, there's still a lot of good things about it. IMO, it offers the simplest operation of all the big floor modellers, and those looking for stomp-box style feel and sound may find this the best choice.
got it yesterday, So far I am quite impressed. For the money its a no brainer.
When I bought mine, I immediately modified it. I swapped out all of the factory push switches for higher quality quieter switches that make virtually no "switch noise" at all, then I took off all of the "matrix" knobs, cut the plastic shafts in half, cut the knobs themselves in half and put them back on. So now, the foot switches are silent and the matrix turn knobs are more recessed and lower down to the unit. It was a lot of work, but it was well worth it. Just thought I'd mention it to you, the problems can be fixed with a little effort, and it works out great in the end.
+Gunslinger Survival Cool ideas, although most users wouldn't be comfortable making those changes themselves.
I wouldn't consider either one to be a problem really. The factory switches are quite good and I actually prefer hard/loud switches over silent switches. I like to clearly feel when the button clicks under my foot/shoe, which I can't with silent switches. Chances are if you're playing live, you're in an environment loud enough to drown out the click anyways. I also wouldn't bother shortening the "matrix" shafts/knobs. Because they are recessed, they aren't really a problem. That is, unless you or another band member are a stumbler on stage and might step right on the unit.
+Gunslinger Survival The only real complaint I have with the unit is the wah switch being a pressure switch vs a hard physical switch. Other than that, I can live with everything else quite comfortably.

In that case, yes. You can run the RP1000 in bypass mode to send a clean/dry guitar signal through USB.
This and 2 JBL EON610s (2,000 watts) and it's the best rig I have ever had, over my 52 years of playing. No more transformers or speakers:)

I have discovered an apparent glitch when editing presets using X-Edit. If you drag and drop presets to different locations or if you copy/paste presets, the new presets become corrupted and respond very strangely. That might be what you're experiencing. Try re-loading the firmware. Official firmware can be found on the Digitech website. Beta firmware link is in the video description... Hope you get it sorted out!

The RP1000 has an acoustic simulator in it as well. I combined the Ghost with the acoustic simulator in the RP1000 to get my acoustic tones.

None of the presets in this video came with the unit. I made custom presets specifically for each of the demos I showed. Hope that answered your question!

If you build all your presets to sound good direct, then you should consider a FRFR system (Full Range Flat Response, think powered PA speakers and/or studio monitors as opposed to guitar amps) for live use. The benefit here is that the tone you make for your recordings will sound basically the same when you play live. You'd have to make all new presets if you bought a guitar amp because presets built direct won't sound good through a traditional guitar amp.
You can link the expression pedal to the Whammy effect, which you can program for 1 or 2 octaves up or down. It does not come with a battery and I don't know of any units like this that do, so you might be out of luck with that one. Happy gear hunting!
I didn't know that. I used a Rocktron Prophesy live and in the Studio and had no (audible) delays with that unit. I will carefully check which ever unit I buy to make sure I can live with its delay. This unit has a lot going on, especially like the 4CM. I wouldn't buy a unit without it. Thank you again for all the info. Your review was great, you should review all equipment you can.

Just an update for you...all of the matrix adjustment knobs with the plastic shafts, I took them all out and replaced them all with metal shafts and metal knobs that are recessed down inside further so that they don't stick up. Best investment I made to it, it was a pain in the ass to replace all those knobs...but it was damn worth it in the end. I've modded the unit to the max...and it is most definitely stageworthy at this point. Something you might try.

I think the sounds on this were pretty bad ass...especially the acoustic emulator. I really only came here because I just bought a Genesis 3?? Old, I know, but it was $59?? and has all the features I want/need...I just wanted to see how much Digitech has evolved since 2001. I used to have a GNX 1 which is basically the Genesis, just in pedal form...and it was built like a tank, too!! Loved that thing...great sound...great features...the amp warp was INCREDIBLE. I don't think it went over well because a lot of people don't like to tinker, they like to "plug and play"...and they want their amp sims to sound "just like the real thing". I want my amps to sound like NO ONE ELSE ON THE PLANET...but I want them to sound REAL...like BELIEVABLE. Digitech seems to do that...so do a lot of these amp modeling plugins like POD Farm, Amplitube, and others...
Very picky people disagree?? but I use a tube preamp on the front side...a Behringer Tube Mic 100...fattens things up nicely and gives it that true tube break up....because it has a tube!! :)

i bought this in 2012 when i just jammin in my room in middle school. i’m out of highschool now and i still use it today playing shows with my band.
it’s a great pedal in my opinion but of course it has great wear and tear from beating it around and such. i’ve had to replace the power supply and am missing one of the plastic knobs but i just stick a pencil in it and it works. honestly a great pedal but i see myself upgrading within 5 years

Just so you know, virtually every multi-effects device has a short signal drop between presets. There is no drop if you are simply turning on/off an effect within a preset but there is always a drop when switching between full presets. Even the $2000+ modelers have that problem.
I too suffer from GAS, and just got this 2 days ago, and still explaining to wife what it is capable of! I had to pay $400, but it came w/ the cords, and Sennheiser HPs, and the Loop Pedal, w/ 4-payment plan, zzzSounds has it going on! Highly recommend!

The whah pedal pressure switch can be adjusted through the settings sensitivity for whah pedal. I have mime set perfectly. Just Google how to adjust whah pedal sensitivity for rp1000 or look for it in your manual
Adjusting that didn't help my issue at the time. As mentioned in the video, the problem was the lack of physical feedback when the wah turns on/off. It "feels finicky" because of that lack of feedback, regardless of the sensitivity. Sensitivity wasn't the issue. Foot feel/feedback was.
I've never heard of anyone having that problem. Do you play at the same volume when you practice at home? Depending on your amp, it could be that the output on the RP1000 is too hot for your amp so it's kicking in the protection circuit (which would cut out your sound). Are you connecting it to the front of the amp or into the FX-loop return?

My kid broke the hell out of one of those plastic knobs, but I can still use my laptop with the x-edit program to adjust things. Overall I don't like the amp and cab effects from this and use it strictly with the 4 cable method into my amp for fx.

There are multiple places where volume changes can take place. The first is Preset Level. It's a good idea to set the Preset Level the same for all your presets (I keep mine at 70). Second is Amp Level. That will vary depending on the amount of Amp Gain you have in your preset. If you set both of them at 50 and try to keep the volume the same as you play with each level, it should be ok. Lastly is Distortion Level. Set too low and it kills your volume. Too high and it kills your tone.

I'm pretty sure the early units were all made in the USA, but anything made after 2009 was made in China. Regardless, believe me when I say the solder joints are all solid as a rock and in general, it is reliable even after taking a beating.
I do understand that you can control any of the effects parameters using the expression pedal right? An example would be, to avoid the "bleeding" problem you could mix de delay with the expression pedal instead of changing in to a patch, the vocal 300 from digitech can do that. Sorry if my english sucks :)
Good review, although my biggest gripe is you can only run one time-based effect at a time. So if you want to combine Detune and Flange, no can do. And I wish the EQ were a 12 band, not Low/Mid/High. That said, its still the best floor FX today, IMO at this price point. I've had RPs for 20 years, and been using the RP500 since it came out. It runs into a custom combo containing a 1U Rocktron power amp and 2 x 10" neo Jensons. The RP50O's display is readable in the dark and having 5 presets (10 with the RP1000) instantly available is sweet, as is the ability to switch to Pedalboard mode. I have patches 1-5 set as Direct w/TS9, Direct w/Chorus and delay, Marshall JCM2000, Mesa IV w/detune and Mesa w/detune, boost and delay. 90% of what I play uses this setup. Patches 6 and 7 are the Mesa patches, but dropped down a half step which is so much easier than re-tuning my guitar for all those EVH, AIC, Smithereens, Social Distortion tunes. I wish others would pick up where DigiTech left off and do a similar 5 button unit with a stage freindly display.
For me, being the second guitar in my band, I think this will fit my needs best...

Also if im not wrong i read somewhere, that you can fix that about delay cutting right after you turn it off. Because the Factory set has some glitchs and bugs, that are fixed in later versions
I have a question. How meny parameters you can assign under expression pedal at that same time?? I bought this unit and I love sounds but I can not find how to assign more then one parameter under expression pedal. Looks like that can be assign everything but just one will be controlled. I am right?? Please for help. Pete
If I recall correctly, you can only ever assign one function to the expression pedal.
