      My thoughts exactly - if they think all corsets are universally bad, they’ve probably tried a 💩 corset (or even worse: those 3-for-1 sales, in which case they got several 💩 💩 💩 corsets) and then made the conclusion that they’re all the same.

    I've been getting a lot of hate for telling people not to buy amazon corsets for anything but fashion use. People have been accusing me of classism for stating the fact that a good-quality corset is almost never (aside from the TT novice and a few others) going to be less than $100. The way I look at it, I'd rather drop $100-$300 now on a good, safe corset instead of $1000-$3000 later to fix the damage caused by a crappy one.

    • @LucysCorsetry
      @LucysCorsetry  3 года назад +18

      Yep. There are plenty of cheaper corsets that fit well. Restyle, Papercats, and (now defunct) Corsets Blvd Global all made surprisingly comfortable corsets for under $70. But unfortunately larger platforms like EBay, Alibaba, and Amazon are rife with sellers that care more about sales volume than quality, and care more about their profits than their customers.

    what is the point? in a corset with no waist?? it literally provides no shape at all! i understand the ‘modern slim’ (if you can even call it that) silhouette most of these kinds of amazon or ebay corsets have but this takes it to a whole new level lol

    I have had a similar corset from CorsetStory for about two years. It's long like that, and seems to have no curve. I'm six feet tall, and it still gouges my underarms because it has no curve to fit my hips. I thought it was just me having problems with it, so I continued to wear it--It's cute brocade and someone gave it to me. I got so sick of it's "cylindrical fit" that I put it on inside out, marked my waistline in chalk, then took it off and bent the bones to get a little curve. That helped somewhat. I do have some "cheapie" fashion corsets that are more wearable, but I'll never get a cheap quality one that's long like this again.

    It does look damn uncomfortable, your poor breasts!
    Anyway, you hit it right on the nail, they researched what corsets looked like and then did their own copy cat but odd version. Obviously, without knowing what they were doing and why they were doing it.
    This is one of the reasons I completely deleted my Amazon account, I did not shop that much there but every time I did, the quality was terrible and I felt like all they did was do a bad copy of other people's products and steal their creations, from clothes, to shoes to electronics and Amazon is damn fine with it because people prefer to pay less and buy more times than pay more and buy once.
    Not only are they killing small businesses that specialize in what they sell but the brick and mortar businesses cannot compete with Amazon's prices or refund and shipping abilities.
    However, I have never felt happier paying what a product is worth and having it last and last.
    Lucy, thanks for this review, hope you can get a refund or revamp it like only you could.
    Seriously people, just check Etsy and you can find a good quality corset for less than 100 dollars and it will be worth it.
    That is nothing more than a choking device.

    This looks so uncomfortable! 😬 When I first started looking into corsetry, I though steel-bones & fabric composition were the end-all in discerning quality corsets. Learning about hip & rib-spring & torso length helped me understand how to evaluate if a corset will fit MY body properly. You simply cannot order a pre-made corset & without having all those garment measurements. Almost all Amazon corsets are a waste of time & money. Thanks Lucy!

      Most of the historical sewing youtubers have no idea what they are doing and say things which are not true. They don‘t get that the waistline does not change in a corset no matter in which time period they are. The corset may be shorter or longer, but the waist stays where the waist naturally is. I think there is not a single one who was trained to be a seamstress and they do not get (or know) that only the clothing which goes over does change! • @AlexaFaie
      @AlexaFaie 3 года назад +5

      Not really. The reduction is meant to be at the waist. You can temporarily move your ribs in a bit at the bottom (basically like if you deflate your lungs fully, it would just keep the lower ribs in that position, so not physically smaller, can't shrink the bone mass). But as soon as the corset comes back the muscles will move the ribs back where they'd naturally be. You'd probably have long enough to take some photos, but nothing really long lasting. To get anything more long term, you'd have to be also wearing the specifically designed corset long term, you couldn't just wear it for a little bit and then never wear it again. It would be more wearing it for most of the time (daily, minimum around 10hrs, though longer would give better results) and then only having brief moments out of the corset to show off the shape change.
      Really if you're looking into corsets at all for body modification (usually referring to the waist reduction) then you need to be happy with getting the shape you are after only whilst in the corset.

      You can wear a tank top if you want to, but you’re allowed to wear the corset against your skin. • @LucysCorsetry
      @LucysCorsetry  3 года назад +1

      It's a good suggestion, but there's a reason why I don't have that specific category - comfort is totally subjective! For instance, I've discovered that I absolutely hate sweetheart underbust corsets (the ones that dip down instead of up at the sternum). They give me reflux and indigestion, but someone with a shorter torso and a lower xyphoid process will swear that they're the most comfortable thing ever. I have mentioned if a corset aggravates my sciatica and I have spoken lightly on how well a corset forms to my body, but I don't want to condemn a corset that might be perfectly fine for other body types. In cases like this where there are objective issues in quality, I will definitely speak up though.

    • @AlexaFaie
      @AlexaFaie 3 года назад

      @@ztad The same standard of steel will be bendier at longer lengths just due to physics. So most likely the only reason its bendy is because they have all their busks made at the same place to the same standards - again a case of them not really understanding how a corset is meant to work. Some flex is good in a busk (indeed there was a lot more flex in historical metal two part busks, its a very modern idea that the busk must be very stiff to create a flat profile, even the Straight-front/S bend corsets had more flexible busks than in modern corsets) but this is just too much. lol
