Well done Rossco. I finished WHW the day before you. South to North over 8 days, well I am an old git after all. But watching you I think next year I will try an ultra, Bridge of Orchy to FW.
Absolutely we'll done, amazing. Brilliant effort. I am hoping this kind of feats of achievement can motivate me in my challenge just to get fit and healthier.
brilliant video mate, glen nevis is one of my favorite campsites to visit and we've walked a wee bit of "the course" when we've stayed there. well done in completing it in in under 24 hours too, i've been looking for a challenge and this might be it!
Amazing achievement! Thanks for posting. I recognise you as I was hiking the last leg of WHW that day from Kinlochleven to Fort William and saw you coming in the opposite direction. By the way, I wouldn't have fancied running that first half of Loch Lomond on those gnarly paths in the dark!
Great job. We are walking the WHW in 7 days in 3 weeks. Your video will give me something to talk about on our hike. “I saw a video where a fellow ran this in 24 hours”
Thanks for this video! Wonderful seeing this race as an American hoping to come over. Am I right that the race in the fall is the old one and this one was made for people who can't get into that one?
@@runnerrossco2483 Thanks bud, was so challenging especially the night section in the rain between Inverarnan and Rowardennan. Luckily i found a couple lads and we helped eachother along. I might have dropped out if i didn't run into them. Toughest thing I've ever done. Came in just under 26 hours
Very cool. I’m hopin to try this next year. What’s ur hydration/carb strategy? I notice you’ve only two flasks, no bladder, that seems like very little fluid between 10-15 mile checkpoints.
@@Tonner1888 yeah 2 x 500ml suited me well. You can obviously get up to 2 litres in a bladder but I find it can be difficult to judge how much you’ve got left and is difficult to refill while on the move. There’s a couple of fast flowing rivers over Rannoch Moor and the Green Welly stop at Tyndrum. There’s also a tap at the Inversnaid hotel which is a great help.
Hi Rossco I see you did the cairngorms ultra, I am signed up for this years.. just wanted to ask what type of trail shoes would you recommend? Are the trails fairly even and compact? Cheers charlie
Hi Charlie. It really depends on the conditions underfoot on the day. For me I was glad I left my Hoka Speedgoat behind because the terrain was very rough and rocky at times. I wore Sauchony Peregrines which are great for grip. I now wear Salomon S-Lab 3 which is a step up from the Peregrines and would recommend them highly.
Well done for smashing your time. I just ran this over 2 days last week and I'm now looking at the race. Is it the low or high route at the Loch Lomond section that is covered?
@@runnerrossco2483 that’s all it said on the website too but couldn’t find one he was referencing. Challenge race website is down just now. Just getting round to prepping kit now.
Well done, fantastic achievement! I'm due to take part in May 2024 and wondered what shoes you went for? I'm thinking cushioned trail (e.g. Hoka Challenger ATR) but would love to know what worked (or didn't work!) for you?
Sorry I just realised I never responded. Trail shoes with decent lugs are the best. I used Salomon S-Labs as the offered slightly more grip but I could easily have used my Hoka Speedgoats as it was pretty dry.
Didn’t have a support crew but the Marshalls at the checkpoints were so helpful and had loads of options for refuelling myself before heading out again in the trail. There were two bag drops which allowed me to change shoes and clothes if the need arose.
Great achievement and what a cool club to have joined! That night segment looked tough - any advice on how to film the night segments? My ultra this weekend is a 10.30pm start so about 90% of my race will be in the dark, which doesnt lead to easy filming!
OK watched the whole video now, tremendous effort. I just did Milngavie to Beinn Ghlas in 13 hours yesterday and I'm probably going to be crippled for three or four days! Those steps just past Cashel are brutal.
Much of it has to do with logistics. Its much easier for most of the runners to head home after the event from Glasgow than if they finished in Fort William. They explain it in more detail on the website.
Hi ross, sorry i never seen you at start to say hello, well done for getting in under 24hrs,what an effort,i made it myself just under 31hrs,never again, well maybe think about when i can walk again😂👍
No worries Billy. It’s always a bit hectic before the race starts. Superb effort finishing in plenty time. It’s a really tough race, especially when trying to complete it in such a relatively short time.

Fantastic video , my brother and I ran it too your video really captures what a beautiful weekend it was. So jealous of your time though ! Well done.
Nice seeing your journey, I’ve got the Devil o’ the Highlands in August so nice to see you going over the same terrain. Well done 👍🏼
Inspiring stuff. Another great watch. Heading tomorrow to do the West Highland Way with my daughter 😃
Have an amazing time. Hopefully the weather is kinder to you than it was for me last weekend.
Brilliant depiction of the race and the whw itself 👍🏴🦄

Thank you for this video , you looked amazing throughout! Well done you
Huge congratulations. Excellent effort and thank you for filming the race.
Awesome effort and scenery to match
That route looks utterly stunning. Such serenity in places too. But for Covid, I'd have done it by now.
Well done.

Brilliant, well done. Very inspiring 🙌🙌
Awesome film and you've inspired me to give it a go next year. I'm no 17 on the list. I think I'm going to regret this🙈
Fantastic effort and a great video. You made it look easy! Inspiring stuff for an old fogey like me doing 10k every morning up a Spanish mountain 👍🍷.
Unreal effort!! Huge congratulations. Thanks for filming and inspiring others. Anything is possible 💪💪
As a photographer and runner this looks fantastic with those views! Well done on the sub 24hr 👏
Great video and well done on beating the 24 hrs 👍
Great achievement this Ross.. smashed it..👏👏👏
That was great! well done!

Fantastic! I'm running it on Saturday, absolutely terrifying me

That is fantastic, great effort 👏. The finish line isn't the best though 🤣, I'd of expected more after such an epic event!
I agree John
Amazing achievement 👌🏼. I’m attempting it in 35 hours this year 😳. What sleeping bag did you carry?
Just a cheap one from Sports Direct

Amazing effort. Good to see it segment by segment. Did you have anyone supporting you beyond thebcheckpoints, and do you have food drops etc?
You did really well being isolated for so long. I kept myself going on a 25k mountain run by tagging onto people and having a chat.

Question. Is there any particular reason they run it in the opposite direction, North to South?
